I have a Synology NAS with about 10 TB of data, and I need to set up a real-time replication that runs every 15 minutes to my own server (no cloud solutions involved). Additionally, I need to implement a failover and failback mechanism in case the NAS goes down or needs maintenance.I want to ensure that:The data is replicated every 15 minutes. I can perform a failover to my server if the NAS is unavailable. I can easily failback to the NAS once it's back online, keeping data consistent. Can someone guide me through the best practices or the proper steps to configure this using Veeam Backup & Replication? If there are any other recommended Veeam tools or methods that fit this scenario, I'd appreciate the advice! Thanks in advance!
Hello everyone,I am looking for advice on how to manage a migration from a VMWare host to a Hyper-V host while maintaining backups continuity under Veeam B&R 12.2 with only 2 sockets licensed. BackgroundWe have decided to move from VMWare to Hyper-V. Our environment is small and it makes solid economic sense over the lifetime of the current Windows Server edition. The Windows Server licensing was bought before Veeam expanded support to other hypervisors, so Proxmox VE was not in scope for this move. We have timed our migration to coincide with a hardware refresh, so we will move from a two-host ESXi setup (VMWare VSphere Essentials with Veeam managing replication to the second host) to a two-host Hyper-V setup. Again, we intend to use Veeam to manage replication because Windows Server Hyper-V Replication is constrictive compared to the options we have under Veeam, for our risk profile. There are 18 VMs in scope for the move. The bulk of the data is approximately 50TB of data fr
Hello,I was wondering if some of you have already try to play with immutable repository for backup job in Veeam for M365 v8.I want to try the governance mode but I not sure how to test it properly…I use a Wasabi bucket set with versioning and immuability. In Veeam I created my repository with the following parameters My backup worked properly Now I want to test the immutability. But I'm not sure to how to proceed. In wasabi console I tried to delete the bucket directly, I got the message: Okay, I decided to delete the Veeam folder and tadammm the folder has been deletedThe bucket should be empty so I relaunch my job, I though to have a new Full backup, but no. Veeam create an incremental… Strange….Now I want to try to delete some data from Veeam but except with powershell it’s not possible.I’m looking a cmdlet to delete all sites in my repository.
Hi everyone,I think I’m one of the first to receive the 2024 swag package. Most likely it wasn’t intended to arrive so early that’s why I will keep it secret what I have gotten. Anyways I wannted to say a big “thank you” for this appreciation, it makes me smile :).Thanks so much!

How can I back up our Proxmox Ve cluster environment to Cloud Connect Service Provider storage? With VMWARE and Hyper-V I can choose from the Cloud Connect repository that has been created, but when I create a backup job for Proxmox this is not available to me. Does anyone know why? Is there a solution?
Hi Guys, I wonder if I can get some help on this one. I have the Veeam One report showing VM Snapshots older than 3 days which is showing snapshots that have long been deleted. Does anyone know if there is a way to kick Veeam One into recognising that they have been deleted ?I’m thinking a SQL query to clear a table in the DB that has got stuck or something like that ?Any help greatly appreciated.ThanksPhil
Hi, I’m running Veeam B&R CE on my home server and plan to upgrade from Server 2022 to 2025 when that come out. I would like to do a clean install of 2025 and was wondering if there’s a way to backup my install of Veeam so I can reinstall it on my upgrader Server 2025 (eg., the configurations, databases etc. The backup repositories are on separate disks and so will be directly accessible). Thank you
Sanity check! On our Exagrid we have a single 1GB NIC and two 10GB NICs. From the beginning we configured the Linux Managed Server/Repository to point to the 1GB NIC assuming that the Veeam Datamover magically knew about and utilized the 10GB NICS for backups. Considering how slow our backups are Im wondering if our network is misconfigured and we should be pointing to the 10GB.

We want to restore a SQL Server database within a small window, so that there is minimal downtime for transferring usage from the old database to the new database. With our previous backup software (Backup Exec), we used to restore the full backup and leave the database in recovery mode, then restore the differential backup on top of that, still leaving the database in recovery mode, then restore the transaction logs up to just before the downtime period, still leaving the database in recovery mode, so that, once the downtime commenced, we would only have to restore a couple more transaction log backups to bring the database up-to-date with the source database. We are struggling to find a similar option in Veeam. We have 2 support calls open, one attempting to see if we can use a similar method to the above, and one attempting to see if Instant Recovery is the solution to this.- for the first option, it appears that Veeam cannot append any restores to the original restore - it simply of
Hi, all. I have question about how to perform large backups on a slow network. My current infrastructure is : headquarters and the IDC where the physical servers(119 TB) are located are more than 100km apart, connected by a 1Gbps network. (This network is for business, and I don't have any plans to set up a backup network yet.) Initially, I wanted to have the backup server and repository server at headquarters so that I don't mind if the initial full backup takes a long time, but if I need to recovery backups, it will take too long. (Single largest server is over 7TB). The second way I thought of is to install the backup server and repository server in IDC and make a backup copy to HQ.However, the backup copy is also downloaded at 1Gbps, so I think the business network will be disrupted on the day of copying the full backup data. How would be the best way to configure it in my situation? Will the 'WAN Accelerator' feature help? Also, does this work on a local network? I need your advice.
Hey guys,I tried to install I/O filters on vCenter for CDP and it showing the error “ the operation is not allowed in current state” . Can anyone tell why it is showing like this and suggest what needs to be done. Please refer the screenshot for more details.
Hi, I’m trying to understand SB mainly the networking side of things. In short I want to be able to ulitise SB as a sandbox to spin up a SQL server, however only spin up the OS of the SQL server - I then want to test attaching the databse to this SQL OS to see how it would perform in a reallife DR scenario. So I need to ensure that it is fully isolated from the existing environment but then I would like the SB VM to be accessible from an RDP session if possible but then to see network shares so we can attach the DB. Any ideas if this is possible and could someone maybe give me some information on the following as there really isn’t much learning material out there to understand this:
Hello All, I am trying to backup a windows 10 pc and and restore it on a different machine so I have a backup PC ready to rock if something happens to the current one, the first PC has the windows files etc on a 1TB SSD but it only has 100GB used on it and I want to restore that onto the new PC but only onto a 256GB SSD so I don’t have wasted space, but in doing the back up the veeam software backs up the whole 1TB drive and when trying to install on the new 256GB SSD I get a VDS storage error and it doesn’t restore.
Good day team,I created a test job of an oracle linux server(database server), job appeared in the job listing, ran 2 job tests, both failed with errors:I had the wrong credentials first, so i thought that was the problem, I now found the correct credentials, managed to successfuly connect to my oracle linux server using correct credentials using a non standard ssh port. I was adding the server under backup infrastructure->mananged servers, entered correct ssh creds, reached the review page to install the Installer and Transport service( so clearly the linux login creds are correct). Concerns:My boss said to HALT on installing these 2 required services on this DB server as he does not want any services impact or catastrophe lol, he is new to veeam. For me lol, i am very cautious as well, i dont want to any overtime because of any unforseen issues Would the absence of these 2 services have caused the errors above, will backups work if these are installed? Is it safe to install (thoug
Is this possible and if so, how is it done in Veeam?
I have already enter the password in Manage server but that did not resolve the issue
Hi everyone, i have a question but let me explain the situation first:We have some tens of hetzner cloud servers for our customers for which we provide a secondary backup with Veeam agent on a s3 share that you can reach via SMB, apart from the one that comes integrated with hetzner. Each server has its own public IP and his own local subnet. We would like so know if there is a way to manange all these backups in a centralized way.We also have our own Veeam B&R server we use to manage our own on premises vmware infrastructure, (4 sites, one of which is a cloud esxi all with their own local nas and veeam proxy servers).I saw you can creare an s3 repository on veeam B&R but i don't know if there is a way to manage all the veeam agents via protection group over the internet, ergo over public ip? Is it possible? We have firewalls so we could limit the connection to a specific public IP if we wanted to. Do we just have to open some ports and that's it?Another question: can we create o
Hello. Used VEEAM 12.2.0.334 Veeam Cloud Virtual Machine Using agents for Windows operating systems, I copy and backup data. Virtual machines on Linux can recover granular files. When trying to restore Windows files, an error occurs when mounting FLR browser.Veeam is installed on a Windows 2019 server, reduplication is enabled on it. Using the agent, I make AD backups and can restore files. But if I do exactly the same task on a friend’s virtual machine, changing only the virtual machine that I want to copy, I can’t restore the files. It turns out to do instance recovery and extract data from the running VM.But when copying, exchange does not allow you to restore letters. If I backup only drive C, then I can restore the files of the Windows guest operating system. Although the tasks are completed without errors. It turns out that the backup browser works very selectively. Maybe because some virtual machines have a server core?
When I create a backup job and enable GFS retention, are the GFS backups automatically included in the secondary backup Copy jobs or do I need to configure GFS retention separately for the secondary Backup Copy jobs?
Backup Jobs not doing Storage Snapshot using vSAN.We have a VBR in Azure (AVS). The VMs are on volumes in vSAN. So the backup job finishes successfully. However, instead of doing a storage snapshot, the job does hot-add. The job has been configured to use storage snapshot. Since the VM snapshot is not removed right away, consolidation takes longer which affect the application running on the servers.
Hi!We have a Hypervisor server running Windows server 2016. On this we have veeam backup and replication. We had multiple electric outages. UPS damaged and the server received multiple power outages. Fortunately it started, but Veeam does not. It has sql server, but its service with automatic delayed start but is not starting. To manual start still nothing. Event log saying: “the log scan number (5815:437:1) passed to log scan in database ‘master’ is not valid. This error may indicate data corruption or that the log file (.ldf) does not match the data file (.mdf). If this error occurred during replication, recreate the publication. Otherwise, restore from backup if the problem results in a fuilure during startup.”Seems to me the database damaged. What can I do to fix this? Fix would be preferred if fails how can i create new database to start creating new backups?Thank youPeter
Hi,I have a NAS which is supposed to be offline and switched off most of the time and which will be brought up only for rare occasions to save a monthly manual backup i.e.. It is attached to my vSphere/Windows Server/Veeam VBR-setup.I have played around with my normal steps like I normally attach repositories to Veeam, but due to the NAS being offline most of the time there are too many things any involved component may and will stumble about (Windows Server missing a disk while booting, Windows Server freezing when NAS shuts down etc.).What would be a promising approach to make the storage available to Veeam without having all the red warning lights?RegardsKarl
I am not seeing any option to export the jobs. Am I missing something here? I dont want to use Configuration backup option just to export job configuration. There has to be a simple way to export the jobs or an enhancement should be raised to include this in future releases.
