The first rule of any technology used in a business is that automation applied to an efficient operation will magnify the efficiency. The second is that automation applied to an inefficient operation will magnify the inefficiency. - Bill Gates Do you have to do that (tedious) task every day? Do you have to deploy Veeam environments quite often? Don't want to do clickety click every time you need to create a new job? Want to reduce the possibility of "Human error"? The Korner is a place where you can start your Kubernetes Journey.Veeam understood correctly that a huge group of IT specialists will need to get familiar with Kubernetes at an accelerate time frame because the demand for specialists will grow exponentially. However, this is much easier said than done given the fact that many people are working a full-time job and perhaps still believe that they have not yet achieved enough expertise in existing technologies that they are working with. The Kubernetes Korner will help everyone overcome these difficulties and learn together. What can you do at the Kubernetes Korner? Do the daily Kube Task, a brief Kubernetes task in an environment that we help you setup Ask any question you may have Create posts. Watch out for special events and meetings that are Cloud Native related Think of any ideas for the Kube Korner, this is your Korner too! We are all on this learning path together and our joint efforts will result in everyone’s common success!!
Hey Community, I received a few messages from community members asking how to get notifications when there is a new content published (in this case we talked about “Blogs and Podcasts” category). I thought I would do a quick post about it. First, there is a possibility to subscribe to every category at Community Hub Let’s say, you would like to subscribe to “Blogs and Podcasts” category. To do so, you have to push ‘SUBSCRIBE’ button at the right side as shown at the screenshot below: Once it’s done - you will start receiving notifications about new topics created!Again, you can get subscribed to any category: whether it’s Discussion boards or News. You can also manage notification settings at your profile. If you experience any issues with notifications - please let me know!
Is there a way to test the encryption key on backups without having to run a restore? I ran into a situation recently where the encryption password did not work on restored data. I want to setup Enterprise Manager for everyone, but in the interim, I’d like to manually test each encryption key and reset it/run a new full backup if need be. Is there a way to recover an encryption key with Service Provider Console?
Hi all, would you like a setting for a dark mode on the community side?Dark mode means dark background of the site and bright writing. I have switched to dark mode in many applications in the last time, because it's much more relaxed for my eyes when using the PC and/or phone the whole workday. What do you think? Does this make sense for this community site? Seems that you cannot add a poll after creating a topic. So I will count the positive and negative reactions in the comments by hand and update here 😎10 pro dark mode 2 contra dark mode 2 undecided
I was wondering if anyone else does this. When we delete a VM, I often have someone come ask me where it was 6 months to a year later and sometimes there is something unnoticed that is broken. Due to the amount of storage we use here (PB’s) I tend to not want to keep all these old VM’s powered off, or even on the Veeam SANs as they take up a ton of space for something that most likely isn’t needed. To resolve this I created a media pool on both tape libraries that has a retention of 2 years. When I power the VM off for the final time I do a Veeam zip, then add it to a file to tape job at both sites. In the file to tape job I just grab the VBK from the repo and then can remove the Veeam ZIP when it’s done. Even though it’s not 3-2-1 technically the VM’s are requested to be deleted anyways. If I lost them it wouldn’t be critical. Having them on tape is cheap, and people are very happy when they can get their data.
Morning all! Happy Friday! As the first month of 2023 draws to a close, most New Year’s resolutions of being healthy, or picking up a new hobby, or quitting a bad habit, tend to lay in ruins. So I ask, what goals have you got for 2023? It’d be nice to commit them to this topic and then see how everyone did over the year. It could be passing an exam, learning a new technology, a career change, or anything! What’ve you got in mind? I’m aiming to finish my Azure Architect journey by achieving the AZ-305 certification, and learning more about Kubernetes. 🙂

I wanted to create this in the hopes that in the future, someone who is experiencing this error will find this thread and see a solution. I randomly had a backup start throwing the below error:Failed to pre-process the job Error: One or more errors occurred. Unable to apply retention policy: failed to delete backup files Error: Full storage not foundThrough some Google searching, all I could really find was to run an Active Full and start a new backup chain. I tried this, but the error still persisted. At this point, I did the only other thing I knew to do, so I told Veeam to delete the restore points for that job from disk, and I then ran a new active full. I essentially started over with a fresh dataset. I was able to get a successful backup after this.In conclusion: if you ever run into this issue, try running a new active full. If this does not resolve your issue, go to your restore points (the Disk section in VBR), and tell Veeam to delete from disk all of those restore points fo
Has anyone ever seen a backup job fail with the error “Full storage not found”? I have no orphaned restore points, repository is good...everything looks perfectly fine. The repository is accessible and I can see the vbms and vbk files in it. I can’t find an answer for this. Full error is below: 1/23/2023 2:50:08 PM :: Failed to pre-process the job Error: One or more errors occurred. 1/23/2023 2:50:10 PM :: Unable to apply retention policy: failed to delete backup files Error: Full storage not found
Happy Friday everyone! I’d like to thank my dear friend@Andrew Samuel for today’s fun friday. The onosecond, or the “ohnosecond”. What is the onosecond? It’s humourously described as the fraction of time between making a mistake and the realisation of the mistake you’ve made. Brilliantly presented in this YouTube video: So, today I ask you, what was your most memorable onosecond?
Hi, everyone! I have a weird error popping up in a replication job for one of my client’s and I need some insight. We have a replication job with a number of VMs that are replicating to a local repository. For some reason, the job has started failing and saying the job can’t continue because the replica has been found in an inaccessible state. I’ll paste an example below. I have tried rescanning the repositories and rescanning the managed servers, but no luck. Retry of Replication job finished with Failed. Job details: Failed to create processing task for VM Error: Found replica VM *** with connection state inaccessible. Cannot proceed furtherFailed to create processing task for VM *** Error: Found replica VM *** with connection state inaccessible. Cannot proceed furtherProcessing *** Error: The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error. Failed to write data to the file [\\.\***Drive]. I have two sites a HQ and a remote office on the opposite coast that are connected via VPN, both are running Veeam B&R on a local server at each location to perform local backups. They also do a pull replication of each other for DR. I’m also running Enterprise Manager at HQ. How can I script the server(s) so that the remote pull replication job runs AFTER the local backup job so that the snapshots don’t overlap? I was hoping to use Enterprise Manager to trigger the job to run after the backup completed, but it can only see the local jobs, not the remote ones.
Configure Exchange Online Certificate Based Authentication to automate the Exchange Online PowerShell scripts
Hello Community, you probably already use the Powershell scripts shared with the community and run them unattended. In the past, unattended sign-in required you to store the username and password in a local file or in a secret vault/txt-file that’s accessed during run-time. But, as we all know, storing user credentials locally is not a good security practice. Microsoft will also disable access via Remote Powershell (RPS). See the following link for more details: https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/exchange-team-blog/announcing-deprecation-of-remote-powershell-rps-protocol-in/ba-p/3695597So why not hit two birds with one stone? The MissionThis post will talk about how to configure Exchange Online Certificate Based Authentication (CBA) to automate Exchange Online PowerShell scripts. PrerequisitesPlease make sure you meet the following requirements:Access to a Microsoft 365 tenant with Global Admin permissions A certificate. You can use a self-signed certificate A Windows system with Po
Version 12 of Veeam B&R is nearly hereif you haven’t registered yet: https://go.veeam.com/v12and so is our desire to try it in our homelab and play with it in the evening, after dinner. It may happen that we dust off an old workstation with enough resources but one or more Realtek network cards. If we install Hyper-V, everything will almost certainly go smoothly. And in case we wanna install a VMware ESXi solution? Well… We gonna have some headache, thanks to the lack of official support for that hardware. In fact it’s common that network cards remain offline. This mini guide can come to your rescue. You need at least 1 network card operative. If you already have the necessary .vibCreate a datastore and upload the VIB on your host. Hi,after backuping ubuntu ever since without problems, the first fresh installed ubuntu 22.04 came up with this warning message in our latest veeam b&r 11: Failed to index guest file system. mlocate was not found. As since ubuntu 22.04 the package mlocate is just a transitional package to plocate, there is no mlocate binary. So I did a ln -s plocate mlocate and expected the message to be gone - but it keeps reporting, that mlocate was not found. updatedb and locate do not show any errors:root@ubuntu2204:/var/log# updatedb -Vupdatedb (plocate) 1.1.15Copyright (C) 2007 Red Hat, Inc. All rights reserved. This software is distributed under the GPL v.2....root@ubuntu2204:/var/log# locate -Vplocate 1.1.15Copyright 2020 Steinar H. Gunderson...So whats to do now?
