Hello world.Hello friend.Welcome to Cyber Security Space. There will never be truly secure backups and backup storage if we don't learn the fundamentals of cybersecurity.Veeam offers awesome solutions to protect you from ransomware or data corruption or backup consistency or much much more. Think about 3-2-1-1-0 rule. Secure Restore. Immutable backup. S3 buckets. Harden Repository. And you'll see what's next in ver12!Amazing solutions, but all of them need our expertise to make them operational, safe and functional. This space was born for this: to help us to understand the vast world of cybersecurity so you can build up your knowledge and be a better IT girl/guy/sysadmin/sysops/ethical hacker/programmer/devops/cat-on-rex/unicorn.What can you do at the Cyber Security Space?1. The Korner is a place where you can start your Kubernetes Journey.Veeam understood correctly that a huge group of IT specialists will need to get familiar with Kubernetes at an accelerate time frame because the demand for specialists will grow exponentially. However, this is much easier said than done given the fact that many people are working a full-time job and perhaps still believe that they have not yet achieved enough expertise in existing technologies that they are working with. The Kubernetes Korner will help everyone overcome these difficulties and learn together. What can you do at the Kubernetes Korner? Do the daily Kube Task, a brief Kubernetes task in an environment that we help you setup Ask any question you may have Create posts. Watch out for special events and meetings that are Cloud Native related Think of any ideas for the Kube Korner, this is your Korner too! We are all on this learning path together and our joint efforts will result in everyone’s common success!!

Hey Community, I received a few messages from community members asking how to get notifications when there is a new content published (in this case we talked about “Blogs and Podcasts” category). I thought I would do a quick post about it. First, there is a possibility to subscribe to every category at Community Hub Let’s say, you would like to subscribe to “Blogs and Podcasts” category. To do so, you have to push ‘SUBSCRIBE’ button at the right side as shown at the screenshot below: Once it’s done - you will start receiving notifications about new topics created!Again, you can get subscribed to any category: whether it’s Discussion boards or News. You can also manage notification settings at your profile. If you experience any issues with notifications - please let me know!
Hi all. I can't solve the problem. There is Veeam 9.5. There is a host on winserver2012r2. Inside the host is a virtual machine on Hyper-V with WinServer2012r2. When Veeam makes a backup, the virtual machine is frozen, that is, it does not turn off, the time counter does not stop. But the user is thrown out of the server, there is no ping. On the virtual machine, the role of the Domain Controller.1. Integration services updated2. Transferred to a separate task at another time that is not loaded3. I was thinking in how to collect those “epic Phrases” you had heard regarding backup justifications, the worst ones, in my personal experience were:We don't need that, I usually create a copy on my Desktop! Backups are for weak IT, we use snapshots…Please share your best phrases to have fun, and share those “crazy moments” with a bit of humor!😂
What is the most challenging thing you have done using Veeam, or solved with Veeam? For me it was the Veeam Lab as I have some very odd networking requirements and trying to solve why it would work but I couldn’t get the machines to talk was a challenge. Some others were wrapping my head around retention policies when I first started and Tape. Now it’s all just day to day :) As for something challenging I have solved, it’s mostly internal stuff at my company such as our insane retention requirements and large data. With Object storage I'll be able to archive to the cloud and also to tape (as per policy), delete data from production and retrieve it in 20 years if I am required. This saves having to restore a full VM from Tape to get one file.
File does not exist. Failed to open storage for read access. Failed to restore file from local backups
Hi All, I trust everyone is doing well. Please assist one of our Backup Copy is not running due to the below error. File does not exist: [********.vib].Failed to open storage for read access[******.vib]. Failed to restore file from local backups. Agent failed to process method (DataTransfer.RestoreText). Thanks in advance. :)
Can someone please explain the relationship between this Community Hub and what’s now called Veeam R&D Forums? The email from there said “all of your existing forum posts will be counted towards your Veeam Legends score as soon as the corresponding integrations are put in place”. How will the two accounts be linked to do that? When I first logged in here, some saved credentials were in the username and password. Same username I use for the main website, so I clicked to log in, and it worked. But I use different credentials for the forum. And if my main website credentials worked here, are they actually linked? If I change the main website password, does that change it for here?
Here’s one to find out who has the largest backup in the forums. Currently my largest server I backup is 45.1TB. The largest one I had backing up was 115TB. It took a while but worked fine. I’ve been working on splitting it up in to multiple file servers to allow more concurrent streams to our backup/tape jobs.
I'm trying to recover files in my backup using console -> Restore guest files -> Microsoft Windows...and it is giving the following message:- Connection Problems: No connections can be made because the target machine has actively refused them.and then another window opens with the following error:- Mount wasn't foundUntil last month it was working normally. What can it be?
Interesting Scenario here. I have a VERY isolated environment separate from my production environment. The SAN is the only thing that shared between environments. No networking at all. Is there any license wizards in here who could tell me if this is supported, or if the following would be against the Veeam license rules? In this isolated environment we don’t have Veeam. We are in the process migrating all of those servers to our production environment , but I’d like to archive one to tape before hand to free up 50TBIf I were to do a storage snapshot of the VM’s volume from within Veeam (Same SAN) , I could then run an instant recovery to our production environment. While its running from the Storage Snapshot in our production environment, I’d like to do a VeeamZip, then export it to tape from the VeeamZip. It should be no different than exporting to OVF and importing it into production from vCenter which wouldn’t be against any license rules and it does save me moving 50TB 2 times
Happy Friday everyone! Today I want to trade ‘war stories’ of IT mishaps and experiences learned. Have you ever felt yourself psychic, that you could see something going horribly wrong, and it DID go horribly wrong? Maybe you had the overwhelming urge to say I told you so? Maybe you did tell them so and got promoted or fired! Lets hear the stories! My story that inspired this Fun Friday happened a fair amount of time ago, so it feels okay to discuss now. Customer was going through some financial difficulties, cash flow was reduced, survival mode engaged. Cut all the costs that you can find. The support contract for the backup server was due for renewal, this server was already 5 years old and with their financial forecast, a replacement was not on the table. We tried to be price sensitive and offered third party Next Business Day support, was as cheap as we could get. Customer asked if there was anything cheaper, we told them there wasn’t. Customer declined support renewal. I made a pe
On my esxi 7.0 cluster I’ve added a couple of VMs for testing. Having had B&R configured to backup entire hosts (with some VM exceptions) it obviously backed up these test VMs. I did not notice this change, since I’ve configured Veeam to not email me on successful backups.Over the next days I removed these VMs. By doing so, Veeam completed to produce successful backups but today by accident I’ve noticed that it adds a single line message of the form “XXXX is no longer processed by this job. Make sure this change is intentional.”Two questions:These last jobs were still successful. Therefore I’ve received no e-mail for them (even if I did, I’d tend to overlook content for jobs that ran without hitches). Would it be better to have this type of a job end with a warning exit code, instead of a success one? How can I avoid having this message in the next backups? Should I edit the job and, if so, edit it how exactly?
I have a 9.5 B&R isntallation out of support. (but it was working untill now)I have installed the software in a new windows server virtual machine with the same installer of the first time. Then I try to install the licence with the .lic file we received when it was bought. Then, Veeam answers : invalid licenseHow can it be solved ?
Hi, Veeam newbie here looking for recommendation on how to make optimal use of our network cards. Our servers are HP DL365s with 4 x 1Gbps on a single module and 2 x 10Gbps on a separat module. The plan is to follow the VMwar Best Practice document to allocate 2 x 1Gbps for Management and vMotion, 2 x 1Gbps for the VM traffic (VLAN 111) and 1 x 10Gbps for storage traffic to our NetApp (from where we mount the VMDKs via NFS). Our Veeam BaR server and proxy are both VMs and not physical and we have a separate VLAN for backup and replication (VLAN 333), and for storage (VLAN 222). A colleague says we are over-engineering this and backup traffic should just flow thru the same storage network. Any suggestions?
I’m testing restore process from azure blob storage to azure vm. Here is my current configuration: VBR11 installed from market place : Standard_F4s_v2Azure proxy VM :Standard_F4s_v2Azure blob storage where backup of vm sits: PremiumI restore vm to another Standard_F4s_v2 and maximum speed what I get is… 150MB/s Am I missing some configuration or is it an azure limitation?
Applications for the 2023 program will open soon, the submission period is December. If you are member of vExpert 2022, vExpert program released a cool function that is now available for you to use. We have connected your vExpert profile, application and directory with your VMware Advocacy data. Both (vExpert & Advocacy) need be the same for the data to show in your account. Below screenshot of the directory as well as the application data.If you aren’t using VMware Advocacy or not sure what it is, I suggest you watch the webinar with Noell Grier. Have a new Veeam server for a client. Got everything setup and ready to go, but ended up needing to change the hostname for the server itself. No worries. I’ve done that many a time. Business as usual...except afterward, the Veeam Backup Service refused to start not matter what I did. Rebooted the server, tried manually starting it, ran Windows update, change to Auto Start without delay. Nothing worked. My gut was telling me the hostname change was the cause of this, but I just wasn’t sure. Then I found this magical article by our very own, MicoolPaul, and it was exactly what I needed. The hostname change was indeed the issue. Veeam was trying to connect to a SQL database using a hostname that no longer existed...because we changed it! I manually changed the hostname prefix for the SQL DB using the Veeam Configuration Data Connection Settings tool, and this seems to have done the trick! Thank you so much @MicoolPaul! You are wonderful!
I am currently working on setting up VBR backup to Data Domain and noticed that Dell and Veeam have different recommendations for compression.Dell (https://www.dell.com/support/kbdoc/en-ca/000194977/veeam-backup-replication-with-powerprotect-datadomain)Veeam (https://www.veeam.com/kb1745)Does anyone want to chime in on what they have found to be best practice? Thanks!
Bit OT with regard to Veeam itself. I was wondering how you handle lots and lots of passwords and other sensitive information. I’m primarily interested in whether you use/consider safe for use low-cost and/or “small” solutions like password keepers (bitwarden seems nice enough). Assume a single user in an organization that has to protect data like this.On one hand these apps look nice. But on the other, security-wise they are not PGP replacements at all, trading ease of use for security.
