Is it possible to determine on which restore point a file is backed up if I don't know its deletion date? Or do I need to search through all the restore points?

Search for a file on VBM

You will need to know a rough deletion date then search the restore points or if you have indexing turned on and use Enterprise Manager then you can search via there.
