I’ve randomly had two backups corrupt at one of my clients. Not sure why it happened, but they did. On one of them, I deleted from disk all of the restore points on the local datastore, and took a new full. I left the cloud data alone, and as we speak, the new restore points are peacefully transferring offsite, no issue. The second backup has been a different story… Because of the nature of the server, I decided to take a new full and leave the old data in place, just in case. The new full local backup was fine, but the offsite failed. I tried running an active full of the offsite, but same deal; the offsite failed. So now I am trying a new strategy. I took a look at the restore points and 99% were corrupted (I believe this was the offsites), so I decided to just wipe everything and start from scratch, because I think the corrupted restore points are causing issues with the new data going offsite. Team,Having a hard time trying to get physical server boot from the bootable media if Secure boot enabled. Docs says it is supported, but I can boot up from the media as soon as it is disabled. See the error below. Any suggestions?  Cheers,Alex

After the initial setup of Veeam Backup for Microsoft Azure I’ve had two different issues.The backup jobs finished with following warning:Crash-consistent snapshot of XYZ has been created. Cannot download VSS agent binaries from the storage account: The subscription is not registered to use namespace 'Microsoft.ServiceBus'. See https://aka.ms/rps-not-found for how to register subscriptions. Also FLR restores failed:Preparing worker for restore failed. Error: Cannot find any worker. Worker deployment failed, see logs for details Both of these messages had the same root cause and especially the first one already points to the right direction, the “Microsoft.ServiceBus” Resource Provider wasn’t registered in Microsoft Azure.The solution is really simple, just register this Resource Provider via the Azure Portal or use the Azure Powershell. Register-AzResourceProvider -ProviderNamespace Microsoft.ServiceBus I’m not sure if this Resource Provider should be registered by default, and if so,

Hi All, Currently we do an Instant recovery from the ‘Entire Computer’ backup taken by Veeam agent, it goes for P2V conversion. Once the instant recovery completes, when we initiate ‘Migrate it to Production’ (may be to VMware Hypervisor using dedicated proxy which can handle 4 concurrent tasks. But it seems Veeam is treating the restore as single task and the number of VMDK files/Disk associated with the restored VM is migrated one by one which prolongs the RTO. Is there a way to consider each VMDK file as separate task (which will allow for parallelism) during the entire VM restore (using instant recovery method and ‘Migrate it to Production’)?

FYI, for those of you with WordPress sites (looking at you Vanguards, but I’m sure there are others), I came across a nice plugin for backing up to Wasabi.  This isn’t really Veeam specific at all, but I figured I’d share anyway.You can find a WordPress plugin called backWPup and create a Wasabi bucket and point the plugin to backup there.  Wasabi actually has a page dedicated to it, but honestly, it was so easy to setup, it was probably unnecessary.  It can of course backup to FTP, Dropbox, Google drive and such like most apps, and there are probably other plugins that do this as well, but since a lot of folks have Wasabi accounts already, I figured it might be helpful for others if they don’t already have something in place.https://wasabi-support.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/115001900632-How-do-I-use-BackWPup-with-Wasabi-

Just a quick post on an interesting issue with the Guest Credentials test in Veeam Backup & Replication we’ve seen last week. Instantly after clicking “Test Now” in the Guest Processing section of a certain backup job, an error was displayed."Building list of machines to process Error: (Child group-vXYZ (Folder) for object XYZ was not found)"Normally you see such errors with vSphere when a certain object has been deleted or recreated. While Veeam displays names of objects, internally it works with MoRef IDs. So we’ve checked the job selection, custom credentials and the application aware processing settings. But all listed objects were still valid, especially no folders where used anywhere.We’ve contacted Veeam Support and had a remote session. The support engineer discovered some orphaned VM folders in the exclusions. After removing those, the error disappeared and the credential check worked again. For those that don’t know what an alias is in this context, it’s creating your own shorter command that executes another binary. HelloSorry if this is a basic question or a topic already discuss in the forum, but I really need advices regarding GFS before doing an upgrade from version 10.0.0.1 to version 11 .In the documentation it’s said: “Do you have backup copy jobs with synthetic GFS full backups? Before the upgrade, make sure that all GFS candidates (incremental restore points created on days when GFS was scheduled and that are expected to be transformed into full GFS restore points) are already transformed into GFS restore points. To force the backup copy job to transform all GFS candidates, you can temporarily decrease the short-term retention to a value less than the number of restore points between the latest restore point and the most recent GFS candidate and then wait till all the candidates are transformed.” I’m not sure what they meen by “short-term retention” This is my config:thanks for your help

This little thread got me thinking, and makes me wonder….if you’re tasked with backing up data with a 50 year or 100 year or infinite data retention, this is more than just running a backup and storing it somewhere.  Because what good is a backup that is 30 years old if you have no infrastructure to do anything with it? On a somewhat related topic, I once had a client that needed to keep their Dell/Quest RapidRecovery backups for 7 or 10 years.  They were looking to move to something like a Dell IDPA appliance (I proposed Veeam with a DataDomain).  But the question what, what do you do to keep the servers and MDxxxx DAS’s appliances with the data available for the next 7-10 years?  Or do you somehow convert or restore all of the data and move it to your new backup solution whenever there is some sort of major change?  And then avoiding bit rot?Hypothetically speaking, or practically speaking for you folks that are tasked with such extraordinary retention policies, what is your plan for

For legal purpose we have to make a full backup of one of the server and store it in either the server or tape for infinite retention. If I click on inventory, vcenter server, server name, there are few options like Quick backup, add to backup job….. Can the copy of the backup job be stored for infinite retention in the server since we do not have tape copy activated. Can this job be also used to restore files from backup.Backup server stores files(.vbm and .vbk) for 5 months but the edit backup job retention policy is 12 days. Not sure how the files in the backup server are stored for 5 months.

Did you know there is a curriculum in VeeamIQ called “Veeam Advanced Concepts for Partners”? I didn’t until last night. Like the description says, the videos are all about 10 minutes long and cover all topics like how to set up the backup server, proxies, repositories, transport modes, NAS, CDP, VCC, Automation, Tape, SOBR, etc. Take a look if you haven’t seen this before. This is a great resource for deeper learning or for review of areas you don’t work with often.  

I was wondering if anyone else does this.When we delete a VM, I often have someone come ask me where it was 6 months to a year later and sometimes there is something unnoticed that is broken. Due to the amount of storage we use here (PB’s) I tend to not want to keep all these old VM’s powered off, or even on the Veeam SANs as they take up a ton of space for something that most likely isn’t needed. To resolve this I created a media pool on both tape libraries that has a retention of 2 years. When I power the VM off for the final time I do a Veeam zip, then add it to a file to tape job at both sites.In the file to tape job I just grab the VBK from the repo and then can remove the Veeam ZIP when it’s done.  Even though it’s not 3-2-1 technically the VM’s are requested to be deleted anyways. If I lost them it wouldn’t be critical. Having them on tape is cheap, and people are very happy when they can get their data.
