I’m curious are many of us using vCD in production? We have it but are still quite new into this journey and slowly starting to pick away at the features available. We have self-service enabled for backups and are looking to explore cloud connect DRaaS into vCD in the near future.Do you have plans to deploy vCD to add value to your VMware deployments?Has the acquisition by Broadcom affected any future plans to deploy it?
I have a 5 TB file share on Windows. Should I back this up using agent backup or File Share backup? I have a backup copy job to send backups offsite. Currently doing file share backup with retention time set to 4 years. I think the agent based backup would take up more repo disk space (multiple vbk files)?
As the first official post to the community. I wanted to share the Veeam UKI Partner Framework in terms of strategy, not only engagement but to build & enable around Veeam Solutions. In 2023 this inception was developed (as well as commenced) and today we are executing against the framework for 2024.The intention was not too overcomplicate but keep it simple. Therefore there are only three pillars: (1) Partner Solutions Engineering Bootcamps(2) Partner Solutions Briefings(3) Strategic Initiatives Being part of this community you are already engaging with one of the strategic initiatives. Also, you may have attended the first Veeam UKI Partner Bootcamp last November 2023 in London. I certainly hope everyone has tried the Hands on Labs via ProPartner Portal. Would be great to hear your feedback on this initiative?
I am trying to do agent based backup of a Windows file share cluster. However when the job is set as "Failover cluster" job mode I can only select the entire volume to backup.I want to select particular folders on the shared drive to backup. Is this possible ?
I did an agent based backup of a windows computer and the “servers” license count increased by 1 instance. I deleted the backup data but it the server still shows up in the license report. How do I release it ?
Please help with adding a Hyper-V host. Veeam 11. New Hyper-V Server > Credentials: Added Domain User to Administrators Group on Hyper-V Host. Veeam B&R and Hyper-V Host on same domain. Window Firewall Off:Windows Firewall On: RANT:Hours in, this is frustrating that Veeam doesn’t nip this in the bud and does not rely on MS technology (Ports, WMI...etc) to install, and shifts responsibility onto the customer and offers unhelpful dialog boxes and similar push back in forums.
Hello,With Veeam Backup & Replication Community Edition 11, On one of the backup jobs, when it starts, I encounter the following error:Failed to perform health check Error: Agent: Failed to process method {NasMaster.TransformMeta}: Unexpected meta file size 348160. Expected size: 356352. The source is an NFS share stored on a NetApp storage, and the destination is a Synology NAS. I have other jobs that use the same sources and the same destination, and they do not encounter this error. The job is responsible for backing up user files such as Office documents, PDFs, etc. When it runs, no files are open or currently being modified.I tried performing a job check as instructed on this page https://helpcenter.veeam.com/archive/backup/110/vsphere/health_check_nas_backup.html, but I encounter the same error. Thank's for advance.Philippe
Has anyone experienced this issue after performing the Veeam v12.1 upgrade? Unable to connect to guest OS for guest processing. Cannot find Linux guest credentials. Our Veeam environment is configured to utilize vSphere backup tags (which includes both Windows and Linux VMs).After the upgrade to v12.1 our backup jobs that included Linux VMs didn’t backup. We have opened up a support call, and in the meantime have a work around. If we would specify each Linux VM along with the backup tags within the backup job, the Linux VM does backup.
I have 6 months of daily restore points, a monthly VBK and daily VIBs for each month. I have the backup job configured to keep 180 days of backups. However, when I do an FLR, it only displays from 11/1/23 forward, just 60 restore points. I feel like the repository needs to be rescanned but I can't see how to do that. (I use Veeam B&R for our corporate backup system, so I am familiar with this, but I don't see how to do it in the free version). I also tried right-clicking the actual VBK or VIB I want to use and then "Open", but it just opens the FLR window, showing only the last 60 restore points. This behavior exists on multiple PCs where I use Veeam Agent for Windows. This product isn’t much use if I can’t restore my data.I opened a case (#07068715) over a week ago and it was auto-closed because no one was available to look at it.Does anyone know how I can access my restore points? Thanks.
Good day,I have been enthusiastically using "Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows" for some time. Now I have the problem that when I have activated my new Premium VPN from https://hide.me "Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows FREE" unfortunately aborts with an error message when creating a backup! What exactly do I have to set or allow in the VPN app so that the backup still work with VPN enabled? My system data & backup-media:-Windows 11 Pro 23H2-Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows 6.1.0.349 - Free Edition-Backup-medium: External 2.5-inch hard disk Many thanks for any helpful answers!
Hey there. I use Community edition for my home lab and photo archive backup proposals. VBR is installed on my PC, it was added to Veeam as a File Server, some folders were added to the job, and everything was fine until I added these folders to sync with my Nextcloud (real files are always on device). Now I faced this error:08.01.2024 22:43:43 :: Unable to backup \\?\GLOBALROOT\Device\HarddiskVolumeShadowCopy12\Pict\Filmscan. Incorrect function.Failed to read data from the file [\\?\GLOBALROOT\Device\HarddiskVolumeShadowCopy12\Pict\Filmscan].There are job logs from C:\ProgramData\Veeam\Backup.Does anybody knows, how to resolve it?
Hello Veeam Gods,Newbie here, looking for some advice on system design… I’m hoping I’m in the right place, but let me know if I’m not. Here’s the stack:DC1:3x ESXi Physical Hosts1x VCenter Physical Server1x Win22 100TB StorageNon-Prod Nimble System with 40TB storageAll on 25GB backbone LINK: 100gb fiber connection DC1 --> DC2. I was thinking of using a bare metal restore into a VM and have actually made it work, but what I wasnt able to do successfully was resize/shrink the disks in the process. The physical server has lots of wasted space which I would like to avoid in the VM. Is it possible to accomplish a “disk shrink” using a bare metal restore?
In my environment, all of my switches and all of my virtualization hosts support jumbo frames. as well as the Data Domain that is my storage infrastructure. However, my VBR environment - 3VMs (the VBR server, 1 proxy, and 1 managed server used to mount restores) and the physical server that attaches to the tape library are not currently set to use jumbo frames. I am wondering if setting them to use jumbo frames would help, improve performance, reduce bottlenecks?I can’t imagine that it would hurt, right?Anyone using jumbo frames? What is your experience?
Hello,I want to recover one computer account password from Veeam B&R credentials, I followed the KB4349 article, but I was unable to locate the DATA key under HKLM\SOFTWARE\Veeam\Veeam Backup and Replication to view the EncyptionSalt value. I didn’t found any article or guide for such case, can anyone guide me how to find the EncryptionSalt value if it is not available in registry?
Hello,if I understand it correctly, in Veeam 12 the backup health check is performed independently from the backup copy job.In my case that leads to a problem because the backup repository which is the target for the backup copy job is only switched on for the backup (powering on and powering off is done by job scripts in the backup copy job).Is there any solution for this?In my opinion there are several ways that would lead to a solution:Starting health check immediately after the backup before the after job script. But that could not be configured any more or I didn’t find it. Adding the functionality to execute scripts before and after the health check. Starting health check manually from the command line. Then I could execute a script which starts the repository, performs the health check and power off again. I found powershell commands to perform a backup health check, but that doesn’t work anymore. Or I used it wrong. Starting and stopping the backup repository by a windows job a
Hello - total newbie here,I installed CE 12.1.0.2131 on Windows 10 Pro (desktop computer type) I wanted to try creating a simple backup job to see how it works. I intend to chose just a single folder of files to be backed up. I am in Home > Backup Job > New Agent Backup Job > Tab = “Objects”I checked the box for “The following file system objects:” It displays a windows form with a single line text box, I do not see any buttons to open a file picker dialog box to be able to select just the single folder I want to backup.I see a similar constraint when I click “Next” to go to the tab labeled “Local Storage”. There is just a text box on a form and no file picker dialogs. I need to type the full path to the storage location where I want the backup to be written to. Is this intended behavior to not be able to use a file picker dialog box? Is this a limitation of the Community Edition? Thank you.
The new year starts very well...with a new problem in regards to Office 365 backup.Since 01/01/2022 teams backup could fail with the following error:Failed to process team: XYZ Organization (ID: XYZ) which the team (ID: XYZ) belongs to not found.Veeam is aware of this problem and currently preparing a hotfix for this issue. If you want to be among the first to receive the fix, then open a support case. If you can wait, I will update this post as soon as the fix is publicly available. For further information see the following R&D forums post:https://forums.veeam.com/veeam-backup-for-office-365-f47/o365-backups-fail-since-1-1-2022-01-00-t78479.html#p439853 Update #1:The Hotfix is now available via SupportThe hotfix for the latest 5d CP2 (build 5.0.3.1051) has been provided to support.Update #2:The fix is now available through this KB; only for the latest VBO build at the moment (Thanks @JMeixner):https://www.veeam.com/kb4268Update #3:The hotfix has been replaced with a cumulative patc
Hello, I have a customer who has agents deployed using service provider console. They’re requesting to know what there compression ratio is for their backup jobs. Is there a way to pull this from Service Provider Console.
Where do I see the warning logs? There are no errors but need correct warning messages.
Hi, We’re going to upgrade our vCenter to 8.0U1 and the process as far as we can tell involves creating a new vCenter with the same IP but different hostname (i.e. I can’t find an upgrade process that retains the same name for the vCenter). Just wondering what the impact of that name change would be to our existing Veeam backup jobs if they are all set to contact the vCenter on the old name. I’ve tried searching the community for “VCSA name change” and “vCenter name change” but have come up empty. Has no one else found this to be a problem? Or did we miss something and there is a way to retain the old vCenter hostname?
Morning, Just to copy this sentence directly from the latest “Word from Gostev”:“So I do expect the on-prem object storage adoption to go through the roof after V12 comes out with its support for backing up directly to object storage.” There’s been talk of it before, but it’s great to see this as near to a commitment from Veeam as possible, prior to seeing it in the final product. This will do wonders for efficiency and scalability, I’ll be interested to see how this changes the dynamic of ReFS/XFS volumes vs just deploying object storage. V12 is going to change the game!
Hi all, today I checked and solved a Veeam One issue during Veeam M365 data collection. This is the scenario:1 Veeam M365 in AWS cloud with its DNS_HOSTNAME 1 Veeam One customer on-premIn Task and Events tab I see the error:Fired by event: VeeamEventCollectionFailedEventEvent description: Failed to collect events data for object AWS_HOSTNAME. The RPC server is unavailable. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x800706BA)Initiated by: Veeam ONE Monitor (ONESERVER-NAME)The RPC service is running on both hosts. From the ONE server I can ping the DNS_HOSTNAME and telnet on needed ports are ok (Firewall is ok).Why I’ve bolded DNS_Hostname?Because it’s different from AWS_HOSTNAME. This difference cannot permit to use RPC connection and start collection data. What’s my solution?Added AWS_HOSTNAME in host file on Veeam ONE server with DNS IP Address and collection starts properly.I hope this solution can help someone. Hi, built a new home server just in time to test the new 12.1 Community Edition. Everything seems to work fine except I can’t seem to create a usb recovery stick. When I click on Recovery Media, I get an error message that says “Cannot find backup file for <Server Name>”. I’ve created a backup on this server and it finished successfully. Anyone else run into this issue? Thanks!
Hi, I'm a new user trying the Veeam Backup and Replication Community Edition v12.1 for the first time. I’ve installed Veeam on a Windows 10 computer, and was able to make a backup of all the drives from a client computer also running Windows 10. But when I tried to restore a file from the backup, I got the error message shown below. I am initiating the restore via the Veeam console running on the same computer as the Veeam Backup and Replication Community Edition. Restore failed Error: Neither Installer service nor Admin$ file share are available Does anyone have an idea on how to fix this?
