we currently use azure as object storage and would like to achieve immutability on the backups.veeam does not support “out of the box” immutability to azure. i would like to know if any of these would work or if anyone has better ideas.Immutable blob storage on folder level Enable soft delete for blobs (or container) Enable versioning for blobs (or container) Enable point-in-time restore for containers setup Object replication in azure for the storage account thanks

Hello to all,I would need advices from you guys on how to approach to this setup the best way possible.We have two locations. Both locations have 64TB Synology NAS and also on one side we have one additional NAS for air-gapped solutoin. Now we would like to implement cloud storage and want to ask you guys what would be the best solution in configuration of this scenario.Scale-out repository or similar.At the moment we are doing backups on the one location (Vienna, Austria) and doing Backup Copy Jobs via WAN Acceleration to other location (Novi Sad, Serbia)Would like to configure it to best practices and in the most secured way possible. 

I have got two clusters added in multi-cluster dashboard, while I try to add 3rd cluster (present in Azure) it failed with message "Could not get Kasten namespace in cluster"

I can see this being a good idea from the separate and conquer point of view (or deal with less hassle if one of the metadata files gets corrupted, so if you only have one, it is much less fun) but are there any other reasons for the move?

Morning All Just moving over from Hornet / Altaro to Veeam 12 Community Edition. Set up is in Production have 3 Hosts with 9 VM’s between them. Mainly Server 2016 but one Linux and one Server 2022.All backup every 12 hours onsite and then Backup copy offsite.Offsite copy is onto a different VM Host with enough oomph and memory / storage to run whole lot in an emergency although PAINFULLY Slowly.Anyhow have done a test restore and all Server 2016’s and Linux come up fine (Need a couple of re-boots to recognise new Network etc to talk properly to each other. Server 2022 comes up will not boot due to the Key Protector could not be unwrapped as obviously a different host with different TPM Etc.If I kill the VM but keep the Virtual HDDs and create a new Virtual machine with same settings it all works but is there any way round this?

I know it’s late on a Friday, but I wanted to get this out of my head and off my mind before I forgot.  For our internal backup infrastructure, I’m the proud owner of a new Dell PowerEdge R550 with lots of space on local disk.  It’s going to replace a Synology RackStation that is slowly dying and is several years old.  The new server also has dual 25Gb connectivity (and dual 1Gb connectivity) that will allow me direct ISCSI access to our PowerStore 500T array.  This server will be the primary backup repository for our primary site. I am aware that if set this server up as a VHR/LHR, I cannot utilize direct storage access because functions required as a proxy server are not available when the server is hardened.  If I choose to forgo the direct storage access capabilities as a proxy server and move forward with a LHR, are there any caveats of using a LHR as your primary repo?  I don’t really NEED direct storage access.  There’s not that much data to backup every day, and I can still use

This is the question.In un contesto dove sto lavorando, c’è un VBR che impiega 45 minuti a fare un backup della configurazione, producendo un file da oltre 2 GByte. Sarebbe una buona idea “segmentarlo”? Che ne pensate? Grazie in anticipo.P.S.: naturalmente in un contesto frazionato diventa più importante avere l’Enterprise Manager (spesso trascurato) e ONE ben configurati per meglio tenere sotto controllo il tutto.

Hi there,I am new to Veeam.  I created and completed my first backup job and I’d like to now remove a specific .vbk file and a specific .vib file from that completed job.  Is this even possible?  I looked into the Remove-VBRBackupFile command  but it seems to relate to “missing” backup files, which is not the case.Thank you!-sul.

I noticed VBR v12 RTM removed the " Install a new instance" selection from the Installation setup with the Microsoft SQL Server.An error message will pop up if the Microsoft SQL Server or Microsoft SQL Server Express does not install locally or remotely.That means I need to install Microsoft SQL or SQL express before installing Veeam Backup and Replication manager server (I knew v12 supports PostgreSQL) if I would like to work with Microsoft SQL? or is it a bug? 

Hi, I'm trying to install lasten in an openshift environment, the pods mostly start but the catalog pod gives me the ImagePullBackOff status, checking the log gives me a timeout on a URL https://pkg-containers.githubsercontent .com/ghcr1/blobs/sha256, in the gateway pod it shows errors, they tell me that it could be because the github.com URL appears in the log, the network and security area tells me that the urls are blocked that contain github in their structure, my question is is there any way to install with another method or alternative, is there a list of the urls that I need to carry out the installation, Regards. 

Hi, Has anyone experienced VBR spinning up huge amounts of instances of a process, and consuming all RPC ports? I suspect it’s AV related due to the customer’s AV change occurring at a similar time, but we’ve got the rules in place to exempt directories and binaries. I’ve seen VBR have port exhaustion exactly once before, that was a VCC installation and the firewall was half-closing sessions and Veeam wasn’t doing a good job detecting this and freeing up ports subsequently. This scenario is different however.VBR server that is only for job orchestration (all backup & repo roles are on physical appliances, proxy & repo roles uninstalled from VBR). Server was up for less than 6 hours yesterday, and it spawned 18,000 threads of VeeamTransportSvc, all looping back to itself. But the server ran out of available ports and/or buffer space and then normal connections such as backup repository availability checks were failing, causing VBR to mark the repositories as offline, then causin

I am wondering if anyone has worked with cmdlets that take a SharedKey parameter in VBR PowerShell, and noticed that some do not take SecureString as a parameter. I’ve identified *-VBRAzureBlobAccount but it seems that Amazon and Google are in a similar situation. However, I’ve also compared to VBO cmdlets, and the equivalent VBOAzureBlobAccount does take SecureString for the SharedKey parameter.By comparison, the *-VBRCredentials cmdlets permit either a clear text string for Password or a PSCredential object (which by the way uses a SecureString for the password). While SecureString has known limitations, it seems a little odd for these *-VBR*Account cmdlets to not use SecureString for the SharedKey. It seems to limit the ability to securely prompt a user running an install script for the key from the cloud storage provider via Read-Host -AsSecureString and have it seamlessly pass to the cmdlets.Is there a way I’m missing? Hi,I would like to know if someone else had a issue after upgrading V11 to V12.The machine itself is also added to a Physical Veeam group who is taking backup of himself.Since the update it mentions that there are communication issues between both (same) servers.I have a case with Veeam, but they do not respond already for 2 days, what is odd.I do not want to investigate myself any longer, just curious if there is a simular case or experience with it with other members. Thank you!

Hello all,I am looking for a "simple" way to generate a notification when a backup or copy job is edited in VBR. The idea at the beginning is just to get an info (mail), not to rate the modification, if it’s a good or bad modification. Examples of bad changes would be reducing retention, changing encryption password, etc.Ideas how to realize this? Native in VBR i think there is nothing, Veeam One? External monitoring? Hi Folks, First off don’t ask 😁 “why do you want to do this” :), I don’t but I have no choice as the customer is going to do this and I can’t convince them otherwise. However, they are asking about consequences :(, So a customer has an M365 multitenant backup. They want to rename the server and give it a new IP. The proxies and repositories will remain the same.They are not leveraging S3 only old style repos and they have no portal my understanding is that there is no database that has recorded the console’s hostname and IP (unlike VBR) so changing the name and IP should not have any affect (only perhaps firewall stuff if they have any rules tied to the old IP).Is this correct? Thanks

VollsicherungDas ganz läuft mit 2 rotierenden ext. Hi all, I'm using Veeam B&R v11 and I have 1 Repository (HPE StoreOne) and 1 Tape (HPE MSL 3040). When data is transferred to StoreOne, the process is as follows: Source data -> Backup Proxy Server -> Backup Gateway -> HPE StoreOne.I am confused about how the data is transferred to Tape. From source or from StoreOne? Thanks/Tunglh

I’ve looked for an answer and can’t seem to find one … Can a hardened Linux repository be used by more than on VEEAM server? I’ve tried it an it is working I wondered if there are any limitations or concerns to be worried about? For example both servers running backups at the same time? I can see based on directory naming I will need to be careful with job names that they are unique. Thanks for your time … 

Hi there, is it possible to have two mounts on the same hardware for a hardened repository?For example, mount-1 on an SSD-Raid for the latest 14 days of backups and mount-2 with an HDD-Raid for 3 months or something like this?Maybe both of them are presented by a Scale-out-backup-repo? Is this a good and solid option?Our customer want to have very fast restore or instant restore performace within the latest backups (SSDs) but also want an option to have several months immutable (HDDs) - but as mentioned on the same hardware. Hi all,I have 2 Backup Servers (Veeam B&R v11) running independently from each other with 2 licenses (16 Sockets CPU and 24 Sockets CPU). My goal is that both Backup Servers can backup from disk -> disk(HPE StorgeOne 5200) -> Tape (HPE MSL 3040). I have some questions as follows:- Is it possible to add 1 Window Server (Use it as Tape Server) to 2 Veeam Backup Server?- Can use 2 Window Server (Use it as Tape Server) to manage 1 Tape Library (HPE MSL 3040)? If so, what needs to be done?- Is it possible to add 2 licenses to 1 Backup Server to increase the number of CPU Sockets to 40?Thanks

Dear Friends, I faced a strange issue today when I try to delete and recreate coredns pods for my k8s cluster. After that I am not able to access my kasten k 10 dashboard. I see this on front page. Access to mykasten.com was deniedYou don't have authorization to view this page.HTTP ERROR 403I have tried ingress load balancer and node port as well. I saw similar question and I have tried all the options mentioned there. I upgraded to latest Kasten and I also remove resources limit.
