Hello. I have a request to restore files from a specific host from a tape made earlier this year (2025-01-01). And I am not sure how to determine which tape it is that I need. Here’s the problem. At the time, the VM I need files from was running on vSphere. Since then, we’ve moved to Nutanix. If I try and do a Restore, choose VMware, I don’t see the jobs from that long ago. (which I kinda expected). But what I don’t know, is how to determine which tape made on (or around) 2025-01-01 has the backups from this VM. So I can recall the tape from offsite storage and do the restore.I realize this is probably a silly question, but I’ve never had to do a restore from so far back, it’s only on tape, and not still on disk storage.I tried to do a Restore,  If I select “Files and folders”, I can scroll down to my server, and I can see the VM I want, but the backups listed only go back about 60 days. I need longer than that. Which means I’m looking in the wrong area. But I don’t know what the right

Hello forum, We have an existing physical 12.3 VBR Enteprise server with local default repository (E:\) and local attached tape drive.Need to move to a new physical VBR Enterprise server, also with a local default repository and a new tape drive. We don’t want to connect the old tape library to the new server.Ideally the old server remains available for eventual restores from the old tapes.Backups on the local repository have only 2 weeks retention, so not really required to copy them to the new local repository.Is a simple configuration restore from the old VBR ES to the new one OK?I suppose the old catalog does not need to be copied to the new VBR ES and can be left out of the configuration restore?I’ll need to configure the new tapel ibrary and new media pools on the new ES and then point the copied Job definitions to the new media pools?Can the old VBR remain online for at least 6 months?Thanks, Francis 

I have been using VMWare 6 Essentials Kit for over a decade.   Broadcom hates us now.   I can’t upgrade to anything under $1600 a year.   I don’t want to go with Windows Server Hyper-V.   What free Open Source Hypervisor is supported by VEEAM?   I am stuck on VEEAM 11 community because I can’t upgrade.   

Hi community, While waiting for Veeam Backup for MS365 to release a tool for migrating backup data from one bucket to another, I was thinking what could be another way of doing it. On the forum I saw that there are several options by using other tools, which are currently not supported by Veeam, as they might change the structure of files, but seems to work, and I thought of Veeam object storage backup feature. Has anyone used object storage backup job to archive Veeam for MS365 backups? It won’t help with backup mapping and will only be ok for smaller environments, but purely for archival purposes it doesn’t look to bad for me.  Thank you!

Hi all,I finally found time to deploy the most recent version of v13 (final first release) within my lab and I quickly ran into the issue that the Web GUI shows "failed to check for updates" even after I ran through the process and updates the appliance.The host management GUI shows that the system is up-to-date, so I assume that the update was installed successfully - the VSA even rebooted during that process.  I already restarted the VSA (and the whole lab environment tbh) so there can't be any caching issue as far as I can tell. Veeam Support Case is already open. R&D: https://forums.veeam.com/veeam-backup-replication-f2/v13-failed-to-update-but-system-is-up-to-date-t100160.html Any ideas on that? Best regardsLukas

Backing up a postgresql database path on a suse linux enterprise vm, using  Backup Job: Backup → Linux Computer -Error received: 9/10/2025 5:05:53 AM :: Processing suseprod Error: Failed to execute agent management command print. Failed to find the agent certificate. Possible reason: a recent change of hardware could cause the HWID to change as well. Changes i made, i had changed the vm hyperv config version for this vm from 10 to 8, thus changing vm name. I ran this same backup job, got error above, created a brand new backup job/chain  same error, at the manage credentials section i used same root password. This backup worked for me earlier this year and last, but with both success and error due based on reports. Sometimes errors, other times success. right now it fails within 1 minute of trying to backup: Any fix/workaround please, Can Veeam 12 backup postgresql directly from my suse linux server, if so what are the steps?

hey all, doing my VMCE tomorrow and have been doing some last minute study tonight, one thing I noticed is some reference to 2 different versions of the exam, is there any difference between v12 and v12.1 exam? i’m not sure if it’s the same exam or if there is any variation, or if this is just some naming convention online material like udemy refer to. my booking says v12 - i just want to clarify if there is a difference or not? if it’s been updated to include v12.1 is that just automatic based on when you take the exam, or could it be related to when you book the exam as I originally booked it a while back, thank you for any clarification 

Datastore in Orchestration Plan not showing any VM. So created a new Orchestration Plan and added the datastores. Found out that a couple of datastores do not show an VM. The same datastore shows that it has VMs in a different Orchestration Plan. Both plans are pointing to the same datastore thus both should see the VMs. Cloning the new Orchestration Plan does not work and even though how many Data Collection I run, Veeam One restarts, it does not resolve the issue.  What could be causing this issue? 

 I have some jobs that aren't running automatically. Nothing unusual has happened. We just checked the proxies. We have VMware and general proxies. We assigned both, and nothing. Any help would be appreciated. I'll wait before opening a support case.

Hello everyone, We are about to implement VRO for our current replica DRP in Veeam, in B&R We are able to perform failback indicating source and target proxy working just fine, We need this option due to the NFC Network is isolated in the Prod and DRP location (VMware). Do you know where can I configure the same in VRO Recovery Plans (probably with custom plan steps)? I would appreciate your support on this. 

Did anyone at all get this lego build finished? I wasn’t able to watch the webinar and Katerina was able to send me the recording but unfortunately Go To Webinar glitched during the build part of the webinar and only the audio is available.Can anyone post a picture of the finished build, or maybe someone else recorded it?  

I’m new using veeam, and our company just decided to use veeam as our backup solution. The 3rd party that setup the backup, is using application oracle agent, so it’s a managed mode as agent was deployed from the VBR.Backup job is running fine, and I saw that it’s using RMAN to backup the database. However, I don’t see a way to modify the RMAN script veeam is using. I have couple of questions:If I want to use recovery catalog, how can I put it in the backup script for the job with veeam managed mode.  How to enable GFS, if I have to retain data for longer term (our requirement is for ex 7 years to retain data)  Is it actually possible to restore from the specific veeam backup files (.vab,.vsm) from RMAN command? I tried to test this to restore specific control file not from the autobackup, as backup information has been deleted from the current control file, but it doesnot able to find it. thank you.

I’m backing up about 30TB of data in my homelab to LTO tape using Veeam 11 CE. Looking at the licensing if I upgrade to Veeam 12 CE then I will be restricted to 5TB of backup, and my jobs will fail. Am I understanding this correctly?ThanksDerek

I’ve been googling and am about to open a support case, but I’m checking here first.  I have just built my first linux proxy servers using Ubuntu 22.04 LTS.  Super easy, works great.  Except I have two more that I’m trying to build as CDP proxy’s.  I can setup as regular VMware Proxy’s, but when I attempt to install the CDP Proxy, I get the below errors.Error    Failed to save Veeam CDP proxy: No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it <IP Address>:6182Error    Infrastructure item save failed Error: No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it <IP Address>:6182 This is my first time using Linux CDP proxy’s.  I did have Windows Proxy’s in place but was having an issue with starting the CDP service on those machines after upgrading to 12.1 and decided to just remove those VM’s because they were 2012 R2 and are being replaced/retired anyway.  Unfortunately, I’m not super well-versed in Linux so I’m learning here.  T

Hello,i would like to ask, if its possible to set retention period of each database different.Based on Veeam helpcenter  there is an option to set - “delete backups older than”, which will delete all backups of all databases due not native SQL backup supported.Is there any option how to achieve that? thank you 

Hello,We have three ESXi servers connected to our Nimble storage using a Brocade Fibre Channel switch, each ESXi server connects to Nimble storage with individual zone as: ESXi1_Nimble, ESXi2_Nimble, ESXi3_Nimbe.A few months after this configuration was done, we added a physical server for Veeam B&R v12 as backup server and repository, which is also a backup proxy server. This is connected to the same FC switch and I created zone between the Veeam B&R server and the Nimble storage as:  VeeamBR_NimbleAnd most recently, we added a HPE tape library to this mix for GFS tape backups. Added the library to the FC switch and created a zone between VeeamBR_HPETapeDrive. Each night, the Veeam B&R server runs backup jobs then stores into its local repository (D: drive). Then it runs backup to tape, which writes from the Veeam B&R backup repository into tape drive. I am facing performance speed issues with the agent backup. The server capacity is 8TB, and it takes a very long time to complete the backup. Could you please advise if there are any solutions or recommendations to increase thebackup speed?

ciao, ho un cliente che ha veeam 9 e vsphere 6.7: dovrò fargli l’aggiornamento (di veeam per fortuna).Da documentazione la VBR 12 supporta vmware 6.7, ma mi fa un po’ paura, nel senso che recentemente sono rimasto scottato con una 5.5 (!) che in teoria era supportata da versioni vecchie di veeam che mi ero procurato, ma nei fatti non andava, essendo una build particolarmente datata.Quindi, fuori supporto per fuori supporto, stavo quasi pensando che fermarsi alla VBR 11 poteva essere una idea per cavarsela nel modo più indolore, dato che anche questo cliente mi sa che abbia una 6.7 mai toccata dalla installazione originale.Avete esperienze in merito?

I wanted to change from Veeam Free Windows Agent to Community Edition (CE), because I wanted to create different jobs for workloads.Isn’t it possible to backup my local computer with Veeam CE like with Free Windows Agent?I have created a job to backup my laptop on which CE is installed. Question: Does Veeam have any software to send documents to the Veeam cloud manually, like a Google Drive in the browser or something like that?

A customer uses the copy function for capacity tier to instantly copy on-premises Veeam backups (retention of 30 days) to object storage. They’ve configured object lock on the object storage (60 days) that has a duration longer than the local backup policy. As Veeam cannot delete a backup in object storage at 30 days, will it delete it after the object lock expires (60 days) or does the customer need to manually delete the  files on object storage?My thoughts are Veeam will clean up those files once the the 60 day lock has expired, but got me scratching my head for sure
