Following on from my previous post, I am now in a pickle because after uninstalling a failed install of VBR 12.3 and reinstalling 12.1 the system is incapable of backing up my VMs. Need to completely uninstall all 12.1 stuff and do a clean install and forget about importing the config. Stay tuned.

Dear All,Let me ask for advice regarding the significant difference between the backup size and the repository size, which is causing inefficient storage usage and making it seem like deletions are not working properly. Below is my configuration: Source Backup: vMWare vCenter Destination Repository: Cloudian Object Storage Backup Frequency: Once per day Full Backup: Once per week Rettention: 7 Days Immutability: 5 days + 0 days (I modified the registry to set block generation to 0 days Capture:Rettention Policy (Job Configuration)Immutability (Repository Configuration)Results:Backup Size 5,20 TBRepository Size 15,6 TB My Opinion:Could the deletion be failing because the data is still locked by immutability at the time of the deletion? If so, what would be the correct configuration to avoid this issue? Could it be due to a failed checkpoint removal, as shown below:    Thank you for your attention.  I currently have three separate data centers (DCs), each with its own Linux Proxy Server and Backup Repository. A single Veeam Backup & Replication (B&R) server, located in a fourth data center, manages all backup jobs across the three DCs.If this central Veeam B&R server becomes unavailable, all backup jobs across the environment would fail. To eliminate this single point of failure, I’m planning to deploy a dedicated Veeam B&R server in each data center. This way, each site will operate independently with its own Veeam B&R Server, Linux Proxy, and Backup Repository.  What is the recommended approach for implementing this setup? Will additional Veeam licenses be required for running multiple B&R servers? Once implemented, how can I migrate existing backup jobs and managed hosts from the central Veeam server to the new local Veeam servers in each data center? What is the other option for High Availability in this scenario ?

My HelpDesk staff is in charge of removing tapes from our library. I have a Powershell script that emails them the tapes to be removed. They don’t have the Veeam B&R Console installed on their workstations. But they do have access to Enterprise Manager, from a web browser. Is there a way to export tapes from Enterprise Manager? I don’t see one. And since this is all they do with Veeam, installing the whole console is kind of overkill for them. Right now, they’re logging directly onto the B&R server itself, to do this. And I’d really like them to not log onto a server directly.

The install drive for Veeam B&R has 7.3 GB free space and there is nothing left that I can do to recover or extend the partition. I was wondering if I uninstall 12.1 would there be enough disk space to then install 12.3? I am running Community edition.

My understanding it that the best practice is to run Veeam B&R on a stand alone server, not domain joined.  It should have rdp disabled.  Veeam console should be installed on another server.  Our B&R server is domain joined.  I haven’t found any documentation on doing this type of migration.  The processes run under the local system account.  The credentials for things like vmware and storage arrays are stored in Veeam.  What am I missing that would blow up when doing this migration?  I would like to move it to a new server, not just remove the current one from the domain.  Our repository servers are windows and domain joined as well.  Should they be removed from the domain?  Seems like yes and that might be biggest issue.  Any insights appreciated.

Hi Community,I am studying a vSphere v8 course and in one of the course topics, I came across some information that raised a doubt in my mind. The information is as follows: In order for hotadd mode to occur, the proxy server must be running on the same ESXi host that the VM is running on. After researching further, I found this document https://techdocs.broadcom.com/us/en/vmware-cis/vsphere/vsphere-sdks-tools/8-0/virtual-disk-development-kit-programming-guide/virtual-disk-interfaces/virtual-disk-transport-methods/hotadd-transport.html that, in my interpretation, says the same thing. I would like to know if anyone has anything to contribute and clarify this question.My question is, if the proxy server is running on a host different from the host where the guest VM is running, will hotadd occur? As far as I know, hotadd occurs as long as the proxy and the guest VM have access to the shared storage.

Hello,i would like to ask, if anybody has experience, if there is different between selection of proxy server per job or per repository.Is there different between priority or some deep thing?i am just thinking, if its better to use selection of proxy per job A (same proxies for all jobs on side A) or only select proxies in affinity per repo/extent for side A?thank you

I currently have a VBR v12 server running as an ESXI VM. Looking to move it off VMware to new hardware. Was thinking the easiest way might be to setup the new server as a Hyper-V host and then use the converters available (starwinds etc) to make it into a Hyper-V VM. Thoughts? 

I’m installing a new Veeam solution with Hyper-V. I’m not sure which proxy is best. on-host or off-host. Does anyone have any experiences?thanks

I think it would be beneficial for us to see what exact steps it would take to recover from a complete loss of the production environment, as if ransomware broke through and ALL non-hardened systems are presumed compromised. The call is made to “take off and nuke the site from orbit”, wiping all hypervisors down to bare metal (it’s the only way to be sure). The only thing that survives is a hardened Linux, StoreOnce, or cloud-based object storage repository. What do you do to bring the domain online, both in non-domain-joined VMware configurations and “worst case” environments with Hyper-V hypervisors and VBR servers that are also joined to the production domain?  Such a demo would be great to showcase 1) how to recover from complete disaster even if you’re not following best practices concerning domain segmentation, and 2) how following said practices (presumably) would save you a lot of headache in a situation like this. With Veeam v13, will this allow us to migrate from our Veeam Windows-based environment (B&R manager, proxy, gateway, repository, etc...) to a Veeam Linux-based environment, if this migration process takes several months? 

I have single backup job contains 5 VMs, one of VM let say VM3 have big size (around 10TB).It’s possible to move out the VM3 from existing job and create a separate job for this VM without doing the initial backup (by use existing backup chain on prev job)?

We have been using Veeam for almost 2 years now.  We recently had to redo our Hardened repository due to a poor setup the first time around.  We got the repository reformatted and setup correct but now we cant do a 1:1 copy from the primary data store.  I would think that when you do the backup job and select copy the whole primary data store it would indeed do that, but Veeam support told me it will only copy day forward. We are just looking to have the Hardened Repo be a 1:1 of the primary datastore.  Support told me the only way to do that is to do a file copy of each job to said repository.  This of course would duplicate anything that was already on this repo.  Is there another way to accomplish this?  Or does anyone know if there’s anything on the horizon for Veeam to make it copy 1:1 like one would think a “copy” of the main datastore would be?

I currently have a Quantum Scalar i3 tape library with 4 drives. I need to add 2 more drives to the library in Veeam. We bought a new SAS card, and have not yet installed it into the tape server. When I do, and connect the 2 new drives to it, I am unclear as to what I will need to do in Veeam to get it to recognize that there are now 2 more drives in the library, so I can add them to the correct media pool. Will it automatically see them?

Currently i have 9 TB azure file share and want to make backup copy for my VBR and configure this file share as backup copy repository.But in the backup infrastructure there are external repository and VBR can connect to the azure blob storage.So i want to know what pro and cons using azure blob vs azure file share? Which one is more recommended?

AVS Cloudadmin role not working with Veeam VBR inside AVS. The cloudadmin role was created using the cloudadmin@vsphere.local priviliges as the template. So any account you assign the cloudadmin role should also work if the cloudadmin@vsphere.local is working.  Our Veeam VBR in AVS works if we use the cloudadmin@vsphere.local account but if we assign a service account to the cloudadmin role, it does not. We're installing a storeonce 3660 FC and noticed quite a poor performance during network-free backup.The setup is as following:Primay storage alletra 5000 16Gb FCBackup Gateway server 8Gb FCStoreonce 3660 16Gb FCVeeam 12.2.The storeonce has been configured as repository with FC activated and the gateway server can reach it correctly, SAN has been zoned.The JOB is configured with storage integration and it creates the Alletra snapshot mounting it to the gateway server.Given such configuration the backup job is running at about 200MB/s where the same job using a diskbased target via FC as well is running at 1GB/s, which make sens of the 8Gb gateway server's HBAThe SAN Fabric is made of 2 switches, one is an 8Gb Blade switch and the second is a SN3000 16Gb switch.Th Gateway server is connected to the Blade Switch while the Alletra and the Storeonce are connected to the external 16Gb switch
