Hello guys,A quick question about the upgrade process for a periodic backup copy job.I have a backup copy job to a NAS repository with Per-Vm option set. To upgrade the chain I have to create a new job and map the backup, during mapping Veeam will synthesize full backup from the current backup and build a per-vm chains for every object. In the case where the repository it’s not a ReFS/XFS partition, Veeam will recreate a Full Backup and I must have enough space on the disk partition right?
For a hardware server (no vmware) I use the Agent for Windows and backup to a local NAS. I added a cloud backup job to Wasabi which works but I noticed it disabled the schedule to the local NAS. I turned it back on and made sure the times do not overlap. Is that the only way to have a local and cloud copy with the Agent, two separate jobs? I like local for speed when restoring, cloud is only in case of disaster...
We are looking to install Enterprise Manager and was wondering where the best place was to install it. We have one VBR server with less than 100 instances to backup. I have a Server setup for Orchestrator, can I put it on the same Server, or should I stand up a new separate one?
Hi,is it possible to use immutable repository like this repository from local disks RAID-5 on a physical windows 2019 server that have Veeam V12 installedand a Linux ubuntu 22.04 64bit on as virtual machine. thanks
i would like to know that, can we make multiple veeam servers with one backup repository only.scenario :I have 3 data centers with installed veeam server on each site and i want to backup all of my workload such as VM and physical server in data centers to DR directly without putting any backup repository on data centers
Hi,Will I need to do full backup again when I change encryption password?
I want to backup two Linux Systems. And i get this error on both systems:Unable to perform guest file system indexing: Failed to establish a network connection to the host.
Hi Folks, Someone told me that they tested Rocky Linux versus Ubuntu (most likely 20.04) acting as a Veeam repository and there were significant performance differences between them with Rocky linux seriously outperforming Ubuntu. I don’t have any other details like (test environment, amount of data etc etc) but I personally find this hard to believe but wanted to know what everyone else thought. First off Rocky Linux is a spin off Redhat base distro that was created or gained much more popularity with the demise of Centos. I see Veeam themselves are always using examples with Ubuntu so that must mean something 😃.I am not getting involved in the old Distro wars of years past, i.e. (Debian vs Slackware vs Redhat) etc just want to know people’s genuine thoughts and experience.
Hi everyone,I want to share a little story with all of you, and also invite you to share yours!! I picked up my Alfred at VeeamOn 2023 in Miami, knowing that he will belong to my daughter.Sha fall in love since the instant moment she saw him (bye bye Mikey 🐭 )Now she always carry him around the house , an if allowed, goes with her to some activities out.For her is her new baby, and as a baby….yes! Dippers!!!🤣🤣🤣Im still laughing every time I remember the situation!!Please share your Alfred’s experiences and funny moments!cheers!
i need to know if there a supported veeam migration tool to migrate all vms from old server to new server
Hey all. I haven’t yet pulled the plug as far as deploying ReFS on any of my Repos. Main reason initially was due to lack of stability I saw quite often in its early days. Other reason is I didn’t want to go through the hassle of creating a new Repo, then spending days migrating data here/there/everywhere. My NTFS has worked and done pretty well. The only fast clone storage I have implemented currently is with my Hardened Repo. Have had no issues there, but then again..XFS is a pretty mature FS 😊 .Anyway, I just want to ping the Community yet again to hear of any ‘gotchas’ which may be out there which may lead me to being *against* implementing ReFS in my Veeam environment. I’m on the verge of getting some shiney new Nimble arrays in for my backup storage, so when I get it connected, it would be a prime opportunity for me to implement ReFS if it is indeed now stable. I think my only concern maybe with doing restores, and rehydration of data? Do restores take a bit longer to do? Any in
I’m new on using veeam and data domainbase on this article https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backup/vsphere/dell_dd.html?ver=120if i want to make data domain as backup repository, I need to deploy a gateway server in backup infrastructure to make communication between backup proxy with dell data domainis there any other way to do backup with veeam and dell data domain without deploying a gateway server in my backup infrastructure ?
Hello!I have the question about VM restoration from just *.vbk file stored in the USB stick.Let say I did the Server 1 Hyper-V VM backup and it is stored in the Server 1 Veeam registered repository. Then I copy these two files on to USB flash and go to another remote location with Server 2 Hyper-V and plugin this flash into USB port.I did not find the answer on this problem anywhere, cause it is not just copied files, it is the full bootable backup. My impression is that VM could be restored only from the repository, not from any folder or even any shared folder. But even if I copy my files from USB to Server 2 Veeam registered repository nothing happens because probably Veeam sees only backups associated with processed jobs. Sorry if I am not clear, but it is really hard to explain. I worked before with Acronis, now moved to Veeam as a much better product, but many things are unclear. Thanks!
I would like to ask about the term of veeam license, if i consider having 2 console, one in site A and one insite B with vm around 10 in each site, so it means that i have to buy 2 bundles of veeam licenses. Then the question is, if i were buying 2 bundle, will i get only 1 license file or 2 license files ?
Hi i need to configure lan free backup using Veeam v12. can you one help me on this?
Hi Folks, I am being jettisoned back into the tape world, “tape is dead, long live tape”. I was wondering if anyone had tried in their lab mhVTL? https://www.mhvtl.com/ I normally use Quadstor but wanted to know if you anyone had experience with the one above. Thanks
I’m going to preface this by saying, please please please, never try this in a production environment!!! But yes, it is technically possible to run Veeam Backup & Replication, Veeam Agent for Windows, Veeam Agent for Linux, and Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 on a PlayStation 4 (PS4). ‘How?’ and ‘why?’ are the logical questions to ask at this point, so let’s take a quick look. The PS4 has been ‘jailbroken’ for some time, to the point that you can run Linux distributions on it, just like you used to be able to officially within the Playstation 3 era, for a while anyway before Sony removed the feature. A developer called Noob404 has released a PS4 port of Proxmox, the well known hypervisor platform, and has managed to successfully get Windows 10 to run on their PS4.As Windows 10 is a supported OS for many Veeam products, this does unintentionally enable their ability to run on a PS4! Based on AMD’s infamous FX series of CPUs & APUs, the PS4 has dual quad-core modules, allowing for
Not able to deploy ,install agent remotely to laptops and individual computers on my environment from veeam backup and replication server .If i am installing windows agent directly on the system it will work
hello everyone,i’m a beginner for using veeam software, so I would like to know about the calculation of backup proxy needs. according to this article https://bp.veeam.com/vbr/2_Design_Structures/D_Veeam_Components/D_backup_proxies/vmware_proxies.html if I have 236 VMs with used data around 192 TB and for physical server is 17 with used data 50 TB,VMs proxy calculationD = 192 TB*1024*1024 = 201326592W = 8H*3600 seconds = 28,800 seconds (backup Windows in seconds)T = 52428800/28800 =6991MB/sCore Full = 1821/100 = 70, Core Incremental = (T*CR)/25 = 14 core, proxy requirement : 70core & 140 GB RAMwell, if I want to achieve backup windows in 8 hour the proxy that I need is9 virtual proxy8vCpu and 18 RAM for each virtual proxy server Physical ServerD = 50TB *1024*1024 = 52428800 W = 8H*3600 seconds = 28,800 seconds (backup Windows in seconds)T = 52428800/28800 =1,821 MB/sCore Full = 1821/100 = 19 core, Core Incremental = (T*CR)/25 = 4 core, proxy requirement : 19 core & 38 GB RAM2 p
Hi Everyone, I know this came up again recently but could not find the post. I am starting to wander more back to the forums due to work and saw this thread again which has moved on. Looks like someone has a solution to get tape content: https://forums.veeam.com/powershell-f26/get-tape-content-via-powershell-t22142-60.html
Team,Can’t find how to specify the type of DB to be installed during the v12 unattended setup. I want Postgres =)Anyone can help?Alexey.
I wish to build a new HOMELAB. Here is a guide and many others I found on Reddit.- How is your lab setup? What would you recommend? Main virtualisation solution would be VMware (would need multiple hosts here). I would also have HyperV and Proxmox VE within this environment. Yes, this is possible!https://www.altaro.com/vmware/perfect-homelab-vmware/?vgo_ee=%2BWombPttbhpwDFBk3C2zvW7%2BX%2FpMfSStElYb34Re%2FNg%3D (I love the first approach in this guide).I have got my ideas, but would like to learn from you. Keep in mind, I need a cost effective solution ranging from hardware to Power etc. Here is a talking point but just talking about the installation. I do NOT need help with the setup (deployment) tips as this is a walkthrough for me. Just ideas on how to setup low a cost effective lab, but yet a Lab to be reckoned with.
our old server which is hosted on storage as vms need to be migrated using Veeam restore tool on VBR .But I have a concern on restore as i am trying to restore to new machine which ìs seperate physical machine for host and storage.so while restoring the data to new location on new device is there any option to seperate host and storage datas while restoring
Very small environment - ten users and two quite old servers Fujitsu Primergy TX1310 M1 with Windows Server 2012 R2 Foundation. They have the same hardware, the only difference is in disks models and capacity. The first one is a domain controller (+DNS, DHCP, home folders, other shares). The second one is joined to domain with installed Veeam B&R 12 Community + MS SQL Server. Both servers are built on internal LSI Software RAID (four disks, 2x RAID 1). AD server has two partitions on LUN 0, the first one is OS volume. Recently we had serious power problems and AD server stopped to work properly - no licenses, no services, no RDP etc. I was able to log in locally but there was a problem with networking - the interfaces worked very slow and sometimes stopped. I was not able to start services nor change their settings - the service property window was frozen during saving. I wasn’t able to install any update because of the network problems. After next and next etc. restart it started
