Hi - just testing with community edition. I ran a test backup to C:\backup but I did not have enough space. I’ve added a new repository which is a Synology NAS. I can see a vbm file is created for 2 of my linux hosts, but thats it. Immediately the backup fails. All I get is “finished with error”. Is there a log somewhere thats a tad more verbose than this?  

Played around with the new version 5 of Veeam's Disaster Recovery Orchestrator (VDRO). With version 10 and 11 of the Veeam plugin for Oracle RMAN was a new backup metadata format introduced.But what is the benefit of the new metadata format?In the older versions all metadata was written to one file – the “Veaam backup chain metadata file” (Extension of this file is .vbm).This file gets rather big over time and it takes some time to read and write the metadata for a single backup session from or to this file. Because of this the amount of time needed for a plugin backup session gets longer and longer.The new metadata format writes the metadata of a backup session in an own file (Extension of these files is .vasm). Now you have many small metadata files. If a backup file expires, the metadata has not to be searched in the big file and deleted from it. Now the metadata file can simply be deleted with the backup file. This is much faster than the former procedure. This week I was investigating some imbalance in size on two (scale out) repositories. Every repository gets the backup of a subset of all VMs and copy these to the second repository. And vice versa. So in theory, both repositories should be very similarly utilized. But when you look at volume properties, this is not the case. We see quite a large difference. So I used PowerShell to query VBR and sum all data of each VM on both repositories (I will post some code snippets next week). And I found out, VBR does not know about a notable amount of data (VBR-query showed much less used data than volume properties did).So there seems to be backup data, VBR is not aware of. I call these files orphaned files. What are your experiences with orphaned files? Do your see them very often or not at all? Or are you not aware of their existence? Hi I use veeam v11 Enterprise plus solution to back-up my environnent. Veeam is installed in all-in-one configuration a local physical server.I bought a google cloud storage in order to get an other copu of my datas on the cloud.I created a SOBR on my backup infrastructure, with a local NAS as performance Tier and GPC bucket as capacity tier with the copy operation.This operation succeeded and i see on GPC administration page a Veeam/Archive folder.Then i created a job to back-up a small folder in order to try it.The job succeeded with a warning regarding to cache serve limited space.In local repository i can find backup files, but on the bucket ther is nothing.I don’t understand why i have no error message but i can’t see backup files on the GPC bucket ?

I wanted to ask this question earlier, sorry . We celebrated the first year of our community. I wonder what means this community to you? What drives you to add content, write comments or just read what’s published?I start with it: When I first read about this new Community Hub, I though this would be just another community platform, like many others. But I registered and began to add posts. And of course I learned a lot from other posts. Because it seemed to be normal in here, I also added lot of comments and questions to posts. For me the start of the Hub was at the perfect time. Subconsciously I was searching for a new focus topic. I did a lot of Veeam stuff before but rather incidentally. With the Hub the theme slipped into the center. What keeps me motivated is mainly the great feedback! At my own blog I just see the number of views as in indicator how popular a post is. Here I get great feedback from peers. That means a lot to me! It is also awesome to see how @Kseniya  and @Rick

Hi, I’m hoping someone can point me in the correct direction. I have Veeam B&R Community edition server running on my Windows 10 workstation. I do backups of the O/S drive daily and monthly, the user data hourly and monthly and the VM drive daily and monthly.I wanted to have bare-metal recovery but it turns out that Veeam’s bare metal recovery only works if the backups are taken by a Veeam Windows agent implementation. I tried this but because I am already backing data using B&R the agent policy fails.How can I get a bare-metal recovery option?I used to use Windows backup but I keep getting issues with other drives getting flagged as required and that blows out the space required for the Windows backup.Thanks in anticipation.Bob

Hey All,I’ve tried to get some automation for the backup of my Citrix base images.  I have a script that adds a machine to the backup job based on the name.  Of course, these machines get created and deleted like flies, and I was wanting to automatically remove them if they’ve been removed from vCenter.  I guess I could use tags, but then I’d have to rely on my Citrix admin to use the tags, and if it’s forgotten then there’s no backup, so I’ve decided a script is the way to go. So adding machines to the jobs works wonderfully, but I can’t seem to nail the way to remove the machines that aren’t in vCenter inventory. I also have the auto delete from backups turned on to prune the base images after x days.   Here’s the snippet of powershell causing issues:#Searches the backup job to find any VM that don't have a size associated with the VM and assigns it to the variable  ie. I had a scenario in the lab where some partitions were not optimal for use but I wanted to keep the installation of Windows. In just 15 minutes, I was able to do a bare metal recovery with the Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows and resize the partitions. This was best set with a video, enjoy!
