I’m installing a new Veeam solution with Hyper-V. I’m not sure which proxy is best. on-host or off-host. Does anyone have any experiences?thanks

I think it would be beneficial for us to see what exact steps it would take to recover from a complete loss of the production environment, as if ransomware broke through and ALL non-hardened systems are presumed compromised. The call is made to “take off and nuke the site from orbit”, wiping all hypervisors down to bare metal (it’s the only way to be sure). The only thing that survives is a hardened Linux, StoreOnce, or cloud-based object storage repository. What do you do to bring the domain online, both in non-domain-joined VMware configurations and “worst case” environments with Hyper-V hypervisors and VBR servers that are also joined to the production domain?  Such a demo would be great to showcase 1) how to recover from complete disaster even if you’re not following best practices concerning domain segmentation, and 2) how following said practices (presumably) would save you a lot of headache in a situation like this. M365 Backup - What is the normal throughputI have a small mailbox backup job running at the moment, 200 users, but the plan is to expand this to 2500 users.But I only have a throughput around 15-20 MB/s. EWS throttling is disabled.Is this normal, please let me know what transfer speed you have?

With Veeam v13, will this allow us to migrate from our Veeam Windows-based environment (B&R manager, proxy, gateway, repository, etc...) to a Veeam Linux-based environment, if this migration process takes several months? 

I have single backup job contains 5 VMs, one of VM let say VM3 have big size (around 10TB).It’s possible to move out the VM3 from existing job and create a separate job for this VM without doing the initial backup (by use existing backup chain on prev job)?

We have been using Veeam for almost 2 years now.  We recently had to redo our Hardened repository due to a poor setup the first time around.  We got the repository reformatted and setup correct but now we cant do a 1:1 copy from the primary data store.  I would think that when you do the backup job and select copy the whole primary data store it would indeed do that, but Veeam support told me it will only copy day forward. We are just looking to have the Hardened Repo be a 1:1 of the primary datastore.  Support told me the only way to do that is to do a file copy of each job to said repository.  This of course would duplicate anything that was already on this repo.  Is there another way to accomplish this?  Or does anyone know if there’s anything on the horizon for Veeam to make it copy 1:1 like one would think a “copy” of the main datastore would be?

I currently have a Quantum Scalar i3 tape library with 4 drives. I need to add 2 more drives to the library in Veeam. We bought a new SAS card, and have not yet installed it into the tape server. When I do, and connect the 2 new drives to it, I am unclear as to what I will need to do in Veeam to get it to recognize that there are now 2 more drives in the library, so I can add them to the correct media pool. Will it automatically see them?

Currently i have 9 TB azure file share and want to make backup copy for my VBR and configure this file share as backup copy repository.But in the backup infrastructure there are external repository and VBR can connect to the azure blob storage.So i want to know what pro and cons using azure blob vs azure file share? Which one is more recommended?

AVS Cloudadmin role not working with Veeam VBR inside AVS. The cloudadmin role was created using the cloudadmin@vsphere.local priviliges as the template. So any account you assign the cloudadmin role should also work if the cloudadmin@vsphere.local is working.  Our Veeam VBR in AVS works if we use the cloudadmin@vsphere.local account but if we assign a service account to the cloudadmin role, it does not. We're installing a storeonce 3660 FC and noticed quite a poor performance during network-free backup.The setup is as following:Primay storage alletra 5000 16Gb FCBackup Gateway server 8Gb FCStoreonce 3660 16Gb FCVeeam 12.2.The storeonce has been configured as repository with FC activated and the gateway server can reach it correctly, SAN has been zoned.The JOB is configured with storage integration and it creates the Alletra snapshot mounting it to the gateway server.Given such configuration the backup job is running at about 200MB/s where the same job using a diskbased target via FC as well is running at 1GB/s, which make sens of the 8Gb gateway server's HBAThe SAN Fabric is made of 2 switches, one is an 8Gb Blade switch and the second is a SN3000 16Gb switch.Th Gateway server is connected to the Blade Switch while the Alletra and the Storeonce are connected to the external 16Gb switch

I have single veeam backup policy with contains of 10 VMs.How we can get backup status for each VM to knowing the VM is backup is successful or not using powershell? 

I am currently going through the network segmentation best practices (Segmentation | Veeam Backup & Replication Security Best Practice Guide) and I’m wondering where would be the best zone to place my VB365 server.  Part of me thinks Management since it’s a backup server, and part of me thinks Restricted since I am backing up to a local disk.Anyone care to share their thoughts?Thanks!

Good morning community,just a quick question regarding the Linux hosts authentication. Regarding Security & Compliance Analyzer, it’s best practice to set this to manually.Is the only option, to get information about the current acknowledged systems so far, by exporting them, and check the exported file? Hi Folks,I would appreciate if someone can offer a suggestion on how to troubleshoot the following error: Error: Failed to create snapshot: Backup job failed.Cannot create a shadow copy of the volumes containing writer's data.VSS asynchronous operation is not completed. Operation: [Shadow copies commit]. Code: [0x80042306].   This is the result of an attempt to backup a Windows folder, which is on an ReFS disk F: (the folder has about 5 GB of content and the disk F: has 150+ TB of free space).  The backup repository has about 28 TB of remaining capacity.  The repository is on a ReFS disk mounted as disk E:.Stuff that I already tried:Rescanned the backup repository Recreated the backup repository Restarted the backup server Tried to backup other folders on drive F: with same resultsAppreciate any input.Thank you!-sul.

We are setting up a test backup job for a VM.  After creating and running the backup it fails with the following error:  “Failed to create processing task for VM Error:  No such host is known”  I’m also a newbie to the Veeam environment.  I logged into the Veeam server to ping the VM in question and was able to get a response.  Any suggestions?Thanks,

We started sending backup copies to S3 (backblaze) and I noticed that I had to configure the backblaze repositories to use Direct connection type or specify the vbr server as the proxy. Since this is a new configuration to Backblaze is there something else that needs to be done configuration wise on VBR or Backblaze to use a Gateway server or is it better to use Direct?

I don’t know what to do anymore, perhaps somebody knows to help.There were a minor problem on the local target RAID6, which was solved by the RAID controllers patrol read.Before i noticed the issue the 3 chained B2D job were already running, failing and stopping. I remember hard stopping one because it was hanging in infinite loops.From that time i was trying since a few days now to get those 3 chained B2D jobs running again.But doesn’t matter what i do, if i try to run the job(s), run a health check, try to use the repair option which is given for the 1st of the chained group, if i try to disable the job and try all again…. it always ends very fast with the error:”Some metadata sections are missing or corrupted”.It’s the same on all 3 jobs in the chained B2D group.The source isn’t the problem, cause a backup to tape job running without any issue.From my understanding since i didn’t find any other repair option in Veeam, the only route left is to delete and loose all restore points in

I’ve been a long-time critic of Veeam’s lack of functionality and overall clunkiness compared to other software, mainly Acronis, but I am always looking for what situations any product might be best suited for, so I’m curious what everyone’s favorite things about Veeam are, especially if you migrated an environment to using Veeam from any other product, what product was it and what made Veeam the better choice?

Hi  I am looking for some guidance for the backup data export sizing with Kasten. Let’s say, my case has 10TB production data, daily backup with 30 restore points, 5% delta change daily. I assume the compression and deduplication will save up 50%. Does it mean that I need to have at least 10TBx30x50% =150TB for my backup repository ?I do see in a lab that the second backup is much smaller than the first backup. Is there any incremental backup / global deduplication in the backup data export behind the scene ?  Chris

Our current VM farm is backed to a local Linux Immutable Repo and then BCJ to another Linux Immutable Repo in DR site. Both site are L2 connected with metro cluster formed on storage level.VBR server is installed on VM farm. What if: the production site is down, my VBR server is rebooted on DR site; while my primary backup repo and production VM farm is gone. During this period, I will leverage of resources on DR site and backup is still required before failback to production. I have to stop all existing backup policy and create new backup policy because backup path is changed?The initial backup during that moment will be incremental or full? (wondering because all backup file are there, but there are no LUN level replication before)Will the map backup function can help?

Hi everyone,I have two Veeam proxy servers that max out their RAM (20GB) once or twice a week for about an hour. I’m trying to find out which jobs are running on the proxy at the time of the spike. I know the affected VM's name but need to identify the specific job running when memory usage is high.Proxy details:VMware VM With 20GB RAM (recently added 4GB, but still seeing spike)OS WindowsMax concurrent tasks: 16Is there a way to track this from the proxy server or within Veeam Backup & Replication? I'm in the process of migrating our hosts and VMs from vCenter 7 to 8, maintaining the same EVC and cluster layout. During this migration, I understand there is a risk of breaking the backup chains due to potential new MOREF IDs. Is there a way to preserve the backup chains? Our jobs are mapped using vSphere Tags.I will be carrying out this migration without powering off any VMs or hosts, and I want to ensure the backup chains continue without issues.If I go to each job and remap or re-browse the VM objects by tags, will this preserve the backup chain and retention? If the backup chain isn't preserved and a new full backup is required, will the retention policy continue from where it left off?

We've experienced backup corruption due to an unforeseen circumstance. I'm familiar with the scheduled health check and its flexibility, and I perform daily checks.The backup is not file share one.As I understand it, the health check is a diagnostic tool, not a repair function.My question is: Do we have any repair capabilities to recover from corrupted backups and interruptions? Are there any repair utilities for addressing unique error messages?
