The case is for Veeam Backup & Replication version 12.The repositories are ExaGrid appliances configured as a scale-out backup repository. Two separate Veeam Backup & Replication instances use different shares on the same ExaGrid appliances.Fast Clone was enabled on both Veeam instances after the ExaGrid firmware was updated to a version that supports Fast Clone. The SOBR placement policy is Data Locality.Fast Clone worked on one Veeam instance during synthetic full backups and initially did not work on the second Veeam instance. We later observed that synthetic full backups on the second Veeam instance used Fast Clone on the second day without running an Active Full backup.Veeam treats a synthetic full backup as a regular full backup that resets the backup chain.Veeam uses Fast Clone for synthetic full backups and other synthetic operations. We understood that a synthetic full can serve as a chain reset point and enable Fast Clone utilization. However, in our environment, most j
Hi all, for those who could not make our last Bootcamp, here is another opportunity to understand more about Veeam’s VDC for Azure offering on 20 March 2025 at 10:00-10:45am. Cosmin Pantea (EMEA Cloud Presales) will present the architecture and give a demo of Veeam Data Cloud for Azure. To register:https://register.gotowebinar.com/register/8070037561311020123 Thanks
I know this question could lead to more questions like “Why?” - but we have a client who wants to have an on-prem copy of their M365 VDC back-up. How would this be done? What would the egress charges be calculated?
Simple question, but I don’t think this is possible from reading up about this, there is a great video on migrating, but I think this assumes you still have the old VMWare infrastructure as well as your destination Hyper-V. So, the question is then, can you restore a full backup of a VMWare VM, onto Hyper-V? Assume pre-reqs like removing vmware tools are taken care of, but the actual conversion to Hyper-V can this be done without running your source VMW environment?
Hi,I am trying to restore a file from a Veeam backup for one of our Windows file servers, but it looks like Veeam treating the VM as a linux agent and is asking me to set up a helper appliance. I tested another file server, and it works as usual without requiring one. I have also ran rescan on the hyper-v and the VM is showing up as MS windows server 2019 in the inventory.Do you have any suggestions on what might be causing this? Thank you!
hello, using standalone agent, latest version of 13.0.1220, windows 11 25H2.my backup job as 11 backups, but when i tried to do a restore, only the latest two backups are listed.also, the .vbm file lists those two latest backups.this can be seen three ways as shown in the images belowso, i wanted to know how to re-create the .vbm from a set of .vik|.vbk files ?i know that VBAR has an import feature but that is not an option for me.i found these scripts from 2017 that are said not to work anymorehttps://forums.veeam.com/viewtopic.php?f=26&t=20568&start=0any suggestions? thanks, david
hello, i am running veeam agent 13 standalone free editon, the latest version. i know it is the latest version, as about dialog box shows that.i getting the following error and i do know understand what the exact issue is?please, my first question is did veeam actually complete the backup?this has been going on for several weeks.the full backup is done each week and it completes without error.what does `Agent failed to process method {Signature.FullRecheckBackup}` means and perhaps how to fix it?the destination is a smb share on a synology device. tho, in this case, as mentioned, the client is running standalone veeam agent 13note: that same synology device, has been a backup repository for veeam backup and replication for many years, never had any issues. thanks much, david
We have Veeam B&R 12 on build 12.3.2.4854Our patching software is highlighting we should upgrade agents to 13.0.3.1220Question then is will this continue to work or should we restrict patching and only update agents from the Veeam console?
We have a request to restore approx. 900k files across 2 VM windows server using VBR V12. since selecting individual files is not practical. we are evaluation alternative approaches such as restoring parent directories, mounting restored VMDKs or using instant recovery. Looking for recommendations on the most efficient and reliable method along with any best practices for handling a restore of this scale.
A much awaited feature request is coming to Veeam Backup for Nutanix AHV 5.1. This will require Veeam Backup and Replication 12.1. It is the ability to scan backups with SureBackup. This will not be the full blown version like the vSphere edition with Data Labs capabilities but it is a good start. The need to protect your restore points from malware and ransomware attacks it a must. Customers can no longer wait for an infection to happen. As you see in the headlines when attacks happen, these could have already been dormant in the company for some time. I heard this time and time again. It just takes one time for a bad actor to be successful but you have to be correct one hundred percent of the time. SureBackup allows for scanning backups utilizing your antivirus software or Yara rules. If you search google this is what you will find as a definition for Yara - Yet Another Ridiculous Acronym. Veeam Data Platform 12.1 will bring radical resilience to assist in a time of need. If you are
I am testing out deleting and restoring a single email in my Exchange Online mailbox using V365 restore with modern authentication. I keep receiving an error of ‘failed to open mailbox, account doesn’t have permission to impersonate requester.’I found that adding the Impersonation role in exchange is depreciated, so instead I installed Exchange Online Powershell, connected to ExchangeOnline, and granted my 365 admin account full access to my mailbox and I can now see my 365 account as a full delegate in my mailbox settings. I did this because my 365 account was not an option when adding delegate through EAC, I assume because it has no Office license or mailbox so it is not in the list of users to add as delegate. However, even though I can now see my 365 account has full access to mailbox, I continue to get error when going through restore wizard and entering my credentials and 2FA code.Is there anything more I need to do or am missing about granting my 365 admin account access to user
We’ve got an application that utilizes MySQL on Windows (Win 2025 OS). I’ve seen search entries on how to use Veeam pre- and post-processing scripts to properly backup MySQL, but those were all Linux-based OSes, and this app runs on MySQL for Windows. I tried searching the KB for MySQL on Windows guidance, and came up empty. Any have any info or guides on how best to do that? I mean, I could ask the vendor to just make a scheduled task to have MySQL export out an ASCII copy of the DB, and I just backup the whole Windows VM like normal, and use the BAK that way, if we ever needed to do a restore or whatever.
Hello, I have got few vms removed from primary backup job - since these VMs are decommissioned, the copy jobs are configured with the primary job name - immediate copy , however these vms are not removed from the copy jobs even after the retention period, i can see these under backups ( disk copy ) option. Kindly advise
We tried accounts with local admin access to the VBR servers and VeeamOne, domain accounts with elevated privileges (plus local admin) and accounts with full admin VBR application rights and still got the permissions error. We followed this KB with no luck. Whatever we do we get the permissions error. https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/one/userguide/connection_to_backup_servers.html?ver=13 What rights do we need for this account to add the VBR server. Another note I was able to add the vCenter server with the vCenter Administrator account.
Hi All,I’m encountering an error when attempting a restore from VBR version 13.1.2064 (recently upgraded):“ResourceExhausted: Sending message exceeds the maximum configured message size.”Does anyone know if this is a known issue or bug in the newer VBR versions?
I know I have heard from others about some times having issues posting within the community where you want to create a blog post or any other kind which does not work.I had this happen to me today trying to post a blog which I wrote and came across the same issue where I tried - Chrome, Edge, and Firefox to create my post but after clicking the CREATE button at the bottom it just sat there with the three dots circling. So I decided to investigate what might be causing this issue and found that it was an add-on within my browsers that is common to all of them - Night Eye. This extension turns sites to dark mode by default, but it was causing havoc with the community site and my posting.I disabled the extension and tested posting two blogs, which worked almost instantly. So this in turn told me that this add-on is the problem. I have since replaced it with Dark Reader for those that like to have dark mode for all sites which does not conflict with posting. Therefore, if you are one of t

Hi. I have a mid-range gaming PC. It has a 1 terabyte internal SSD. 510 gigs are used, of which Steam games are 230 gigs (easily redownloadable), hyberfil.sys is 13 gigs, pagefile.sys is 8 gigs and my VRChat cache is 32 gigs (easily rebuildable). Experiments have shown that this filesystem, when these items are excluded, compresses to 185 gigs and that an incremental each day comes to about 20 gigabytes.I have a 1 terabyte external disk drive that I want to leave permanently plugged in. Obviously I’d like to keep as many days’ backup as possible, while allowing for reliable backup. What settings do people suggest I use? Keep backups for _ days, and in the Advanced tab, what should I put for: Synthetic full backup, Active full backup, Defrag and compact full backup file. For the advanced tab, I don’t quite understand them.
I currently have a Veeam Backup & Replication v12 environment running on Windows Server. I have acquired a new server and plan to migrate my backup infrastructure to Veeam Software Appliance (VSA) v13 in order to benefit from immutability and the enhanced security features provided by the appliance.I would appreciate it if you could share your experience and best practices regarding this migration.Specifically, I am looking for guidance on the recommended procedure to migrate from Veeam Backup & Replication v12 on Windows Server to Veeam Software Appliance (VSA) v13, while preserving existing backup jobs, repositories, configuration, and historical backups.Any feedback, lessons learned, or official migration steps would be greatly appreciated.Thank you in advance for your support.
Hi, We’re about to implement Veeam Backup for Microsoft365 (VBO on premises), we already have VBR. We want this M365 backups to go to tape drives (regulatory requirements) so we were thinking on having a repository that is shared accross VBO and VBR, where we deposit VBO backup files, that is readable from VBR to do file to tape jobs. Is it possible? do you have a better architecture?
hello, using VBAR, i exported an agent backup to .vhdx.now, i need to take .vhdx and create a hyper-v virtual machine, so i can boot the image.i checked the veeam docs, this forum and the internet, but i could not find a clear answer.please advice, thanks much, david
