Veeam Backup Validator issues, always get "The handle is invalid"

Hello, I am currently in a battle with VBV - Veeam Backup ValidatorAs has been my experience, the health check of an agent backup job is done by the machine running agent.That, for some reason, the VBR itself cannot perform this function; even though the agent is managed by the VBR and the VBR has full access to the backup repositories.As I run my veeam over tailscale, when my laptop is outside the home LAN, the health check takes many time longer than the backup job itself.So I am try to come up with a workaround. using VBV, to offload the health check to a machine inside the LAN.So far, very frustrating, I cannot seem to use /backup flag on a backup job that does not contain a VM.I did tried to set /vmname to the name of machine running agent, but never worked.Is that correct?"C:\Program Files\Veeam\Backup and Replication\Backup\Veeam.Backup.Validator.exe" /backup:abp_theen10_falconerPolicy selected, provide one vmname you want to check.So far, the workaround seems to be hardcoding t

cannot login to kasten10 instance

Hi!We have Kasten10 Operator installed on top our OpenShift.We have 5 worker nodes, so we should have been licensed: "Veeam Kasten has two free editions: a five-node version (no time limit) and the Enterprise Trial version, which provides up to 500 nodes for one  month. Both are fully featured. Veeam Rocky Linux 9.5 Hardened Repository Installation - Testing Veeam Data Mover service connection Error:

 Hi, I am setting up a Linux Hardened Repository for our backups and have followed ​@HannesK ‘s very good instructional videos found here: https://www.veeam.com/blog/rocky-linux-veeam.htmlI got everything done on the setup of the Rocky Linux machine, however I cannot get it added into Veeam Backup an Replication Console.  It gets stuck on this part It is exactly the same error as this forum post however, I am not being successful What I have tried so far:I have disabled the firewall on the Rocky Linux machine:  Same errorI have added the user to the Wheel Group to give it Sudo permissions: Same errorI have as suggested in that link chose the less secure linux and not one-time password option… which then gives me the error same as this. https://forums.veeam.com/veeam-backup-replication-f2/problem-setting-up-linux-repository-t75144.html The setup is Veeam Version 11 latest build P20240304Rocky Linux 9.5 I would appreciate any help that anyone can give me to try.

Saving Drafts?

Hey Folks,Perhaps this is a feature request or maybe people have their own way of doing this. It sometimes happens that I am doing a post and get distracted or have to leave it. Then for whatever reason I lose the post (dumb laptop shutdown but not only). So first of all to the Community Managers, is there any chance we can get a save draft functionality here?If not what do other people here do? Or do you simply sit down right the post and click create?Copying and pasting from word does not work well and I am assuming creating in .md format to paste in would be best. In that case what markdown editor do you use?

Veeam backup to Azure Blob

I don't get it.I have backup and replication Enterprise.I backup my VMware servers to a local storage and then I want to backup copy them to Azure storage blob (Hot).All I can see in backup and replication is the option to connect to an exsisting backup in Azure.If I try to create a new storage with folders, Veeam cannot see the folder.I read somwhere that I must deplot an enterprise app in Azure to create this folder.Is this really true?Can someone please give me some direction?

Small B&R Hyper-V system. Remove Hyper-V Host & Backup Server from Domain

My inhouse system & handful of remaining customers all have almost identical configurations. They all have Community v12.0 but all will likely go to Foundation. Each has:Production Host Hyper-V Server MS Server 2019 Replication Target Hyper-V Host MS Server 2019 Win10 Backup Server with Veeam Console Ubuntu Immutable Storage unit. Since the Win10 unit is also my local Admin unit it is on the domain. Several of the Production Servers are also on the Domain before I received the info. Problems encountered:When I setup the last Replication Target, I took the previous Production Host and removed it from the domain. It lost all knowledge of Hyper-V and existing VMs. No problem on that as I just resetup from scratch. Don’t want to do that with a Production Host if possible. I’m sure removing the Win10 Backup Server/Console/Admin unit from Domain will make a mess. I don’t mind resetup as I’m going to install Foundation v12.3 but wonder what I should do on existing machines. Remove Hosts f

Fresh Veeam B&R install - Migrate only Credintails & Passwords

I’ve encountered a couple of issues with B&R and I’d like to start from scratch. I’m contemplating renaming my old B&R server VM and creating a new VM with a freash OS and Veeam B&R install since my current B&R server has been updated many times and was switched from Microsoft SQL to PostgreSQL.Is there a way to export/import only the Credintails & Passwords? I want to manually add all of the other info into the B&R server because one of the issues I’m encountering seems to be database related.Issues:I replaced a physical workstation that uses Windows Agent. I reinstalled the old SSD into the new computer. I renamed the PC. B&R 12.3.1.1139 VOne 12.3.0.4670 Agent for MS 6.3.1.1074Job managed by agentA few months ago, I replaced a physical workstation that uses Windows Agent. SQL CIFS database location

Using 12.3Is there a way to restore a DB to a CIFS share? I have a MS SQL VM that points to a CIFS share location on our NetApp SAN. When I try and do a restore I cannot specify the Database files target location to anything other that a drive the server sees as local, meaning not a cifs share, or a network mapped drive.

restored VM not visible on Azure Portal

I do restore VM to Azure local, the VM is showing in the azure local node and on the azure cluster.But anyone know why the VM is not visible in the azure portal?

Unable to open Veeam Enterprise Manager post upgrade to 12.1.1.56

Hello Team, I have recently upgraded Veeam Enterprise Manager to 12.1.1.56, upgrade is successfully however now am unable to open Veeam EA or Veeam self service restore browser. tried clearing cookies, rebooted Veeam EA however issue still persists.

Veeam for SalesForce - License consumption

Hello folks!I was jumping across the licensing page from Veeam for Salesforce: https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backup_salesforce/userguide/licensing.html?ver=30And in the section where it mentions all the users that do not need the License it does not mention: “Customer Community Login”The question here is, do we need to license them? This comes into my mind as the Partner Community, Customer Community and Customer Community Plus are not required.Thanks in advance!

Manually unmount NFS datastore

Hello everyone!I performed an Instant Restore, but most of the time, I need to manually unmount the NFS datastore. However, sometimes Veeam does not automatically remove these datastores after the jobs have finished running, so I have to remove them manually.Is there anything I can do to fix this?

Veeam 12.3: Failed to upgrade host components. Error: 'Failed to call RPC function 'PckgFind': This action is only valid for products that are currently installed

Hi all,I’m getting the above error trying to install components on my managed physical server for Veeam 12.3 . I proceeded to manually mount the iso on that server and install the components myself, but still getting the error. I’ve checked and the Remote Procedure Call (RPC) windows service is running fine.Installed the Veeam VSS Hardware Snapshot provider and checked the Registry - all present.Checked logs for the transport service at ‘C:\ProgramData\Veeam\Backup\Svc.VeeamTransport.log’ on the managed server, and seems to connect fine with agent. Did a configuration backup and performed a clean install of the backup server as some other posts suggested but still getting the error.Not sure if a clean install should be done on the managed server as well.. but not sure what else to try either. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Getting insert a tape to continue

Hi all,Trying to understand how GFS works. B&R 12.3.0.310 Enterprise Plus. I recently add GFS media, trying to learn how it works. It seems similar to the standard media pool but with additional write protect quarterly/monthly/yearly etc. It seems that everyday I’d get prompted with insert a tape to continue and it doesn’t seem to happen to all the jobs either.I don’t really have a physical tape drive, I’m using AWS Tape Gateway. The backup sizes is smaller than the actual tape capacity that I specify on AWS (15TB). Because of this, I’d like to use the same media, just append to it. This is kind of getting frustrating and I’m thinking to just go back to regular media and increase the restore points and abandon GFS.For this illustration, I have an Active Directory backup. I assigned five 15TB tapes to this GFS media pool, each tape is assigned to Daily/Weekly/Monthly/Quarterly/Yearly.Even with full backup, each tape can contain the max retention time of the restore points so we know

How to obtain support for NFR license?

I’ve been a long-time user and promoter of Veeam B&R. I have provided many sales leads which have resulted in new customers and increased revenue for several different companies that I consult with. In order for me to stay informed and current, I have an extensive home lab. I’ve used an NFR license with Veeam, for years.Folks like me used to be able to report bugs and obtain support by posting on forums.veeam.com. Things have changed over there and that forum can no longer be used for support. I have tried opening support cases with Veeam Support but they always get closed because resources are not available for trial and NFR license holders.So what are folks like me supposed to do when we encounter issues that appear to be bugs? The lack of any support for trial and NFR users is genuinely making me consider installing and learning a different backup solution and I love Veeam.

Decommission old veeam server

 We have migrated our Veeam server to a new VM but old VM keeps active, and the job is running on that VM. What is the process to decommission the old backup server? because all jobs are disabled but SOBR is still running. Should I just uninstall Veeam software if new VM is running all jobs?

Windows 11 Inplace Upgrade on B&R System

We have B&R 12.3 running on a physical Windows 10 Pro system. Does anyone have experience with an inplace upgrade to Windows 11 in relation to B&R. Should B&R be uninstalled beforehand?

Selected Server Veeam is unavailable

We have an issue with backup , getting error Selected Server  Veeam is unavailable while backing up to remote site NAS Processing Hyper-V Backup to remote site NAS fails with error Selected Server Veeam  is unavailable. Running Veeam server directly on Hyper-V host ( I know it is not recommended, but its been running with no issues for 10+ years now)Veeam ver 12.3Veeam server itself is Backup proxy server ( Configured as Vmware proxy server)Selected off-host proxy ( Automatic selection)( erased the original server name) All of our physical servers are Hyper-V Hosts (WinServer2022). I am planning to use another server as off-host proxy .I have another Hyper-V host in environment hosting VM’s .  Is it recommended to use existing hyper-v host as off-host  or please suggest me another solution to resolve this issue.

Invalid Name Character

Veeam B&R version 12.2.0.334Having backup jobs fail because of this errorExample:  Error: Invalid name character in 'ApplicationProcessingEnၡblm$'. The 'ၡ' character, hexadecimal value 0x1061, cannot be included in a name.  The occurrence is random. The errant character is random. The job affected seems to be random as well.Was able to keep this from happening with a weekly reboot of the backup server, but now that is not working.Can sometimes get the job to succeed by Rebooting the server and restarting the job This all started with the upgrade to 12.2 from 12.1.
