VBR and Nextcloud folders backup

Hey there. I use Community edition for my home lab and photo archive backup proposals. VBR is installed on my PC, it was added to Veeam as a File Server, some folders were added to the job, and everything was fine until I added these folders to sync with my Nextcloud (real files are always on device).Now I faced this error:08.01.2024 22:43:43 :: Unable to backup \\?\GLOBALROOT\Device\HarddiskVolumeShadowCopy12\Pict\Filmscan. Incorrect function.Failed to read data from the file [\\?\GLOBALROOT\Device\HarddiskVolumeShadowCopy12\Pict\Filmscan].There are job logs from C:\ProgramData\Veeam\Backup.Does anybody knows, how to resolve it?

Unable to connect to guest OS for guest processing. Cannot find Linux guest credentials

Has anyone experienced this issue after performing the Veeam v12.1 upgrade? Unable to connect to guest OS for guest processing. Cannot find Linux guest credentials.  Our Veeam environment is configured to utilize vSphere backup tags (which includes both Windows and Linux VMs).After the upgrade to v12.1 our backup jobs that included Linux VMs didn’t backup.We have opened up a support call, and in the meantime have a work around.  If we would specify each Linux VM along with the backup tags within the backup job, the Linux VM does backup.

Ubuntu - Multipathing and Partition/Installing Filesystem on a Volume

This is more of a Linux question, but it’s for use with Veeam, so thought I’d try posting here to see if anyone else ran into my issue & what was done to resolve it. I am having the darndest time getting a Volume from my storage array (Nimble) to partition correctly in Ubuntu 22.04 so I can use it as a Veeam Repository. Using fdisk to partition, it seems to work, but then I get the following error after ‘writing’ the task:fdisk errorI reboot, then go to attempt to install a filesystem on the partition, and get the following error:filesystem busyAnything I attempt to do with it, the OS says it’s busy. I’ve spent hrs internet-searching to no avail. About the only thing I believe it stems from is the multipath daemon somehow. Do people just have 1 HBA connected to their arrays for Repos?...surely not?Umm..help? 😂

I cannot read tape after ejecting it from the drive using the Eject option

Hi team: I have a question: it turns out that I was going to read a tape in Veeam, I took out the previous one (tape3 that's what it's called), it came out without problems and I put the other one in (tape2). When it read the device, Veeam recognized the tape but with the same information as the previous one (tape3). When I took it out with Eject it came out without problems and when I put it back in it didn't read it as Idle or Free.What could have happened to make him behave that way? I played the tape I had at the beginning (tape3) and it reads it without incident.Regards,

veeam backup and replication console don´t open no message error

im trying to open veeam backup and replication console i update to latest version (12), and the program wont start it close at splash window. i had the 11 version and happnened again. i went trough a network problem in my job and some of the virtual machine get damage. i want to restore it but need help to open veeam backup and replication.

Error: Failed to call RPC function 'FcReadFileEx': An unexpected network error occurred. Failed to read data from file

i have a problem. if the job starts it will finally give me this error: Error: Failed to call RPC function 'FcReadFileEx': An unexpected network error occurred. Failed to read data from file and the file is on a synology NAS and i can just enter that device and also i can just make a network map to the directory where the files are.. but somehow veeam stops working allready for a week..network is checked.. and all is Ok and i can reach the volumes etc..i did restart the veeam server VM and also restarted the services but still not working..if i go to the backup reposority and do rescan on the backup locations it will give the same errors..I cant find here any info about the error i have and hope someone can help me.the error from the mail is:Error: Failed to call RPC function 'FcReadFileEx': An unexpected network error occurred. Failed to read data from file [\\172.16.xx.xxx\VeeamBackupRepository\Escrow\VEEAM-Backup\1 - B2D ALL Daily Escrow\1 - B2D ALL Daily Escrow.vbm].

Migrating Veeam and backups to new hardware

Morning all. Hoping someone can help identify the best method available to us for migrating to new hardware. Overview of current setup:All in one VBR server (physical)  Currently on v11 Local storage (ReFS volume)  SOBR using Wasabi S3 for the capacity extent. Backups are copied to capacity.  1 job (agent managed) backing up 7 physical servers at remote sitesOverview of new setup:All in one VBR server (physical)  Fresh install of v12 Local storage (ReFS volume)How would we best approach moving the data/job from the current setup to the new setup? The approach needs to consider the following: Ideally, we want to use VeeaMover in v12 to move the data between current and new setup so that we maintain the ReFS block cloning savings.  The storage from the new system cannot be directly attached to the current system, but the servers are on the same LAN.  We want to use a SOBR on the new system that utilises the same Wasabi S3 bucket so that we don’t have to re-seed wasabi (if this is possibl

New VBR Server - From V11 to V12 - Transfer of License

Hello Forum,I have question about few things so that I make the change as smooth as possible.The plan is to create everything from scratch because our current configuration is really awful and time for change has come.  Current Situation is like this:VBR V11 on Hyper-V VM Subscription: Enterprise Plus Instances: 20 (13 used) Inventory: 1 Hyper-V Cluster  2 Standalone Hosts Now I need to remove everything from this server and to transfer the license to the new one Questions:How to transfer the license? How to properly remove Inventory so that I don’t have problem when adding it to a new V12 VBR server? I know that few folks had problems when attempting to add the hosts to new VBR, something stuck on the old VBR etc. I will not do a configuration backup because I want everything from scratch. Please feel free to write any other recommendations that I need to take care off.I did it one year ago but I would need the help from Veeam Legends to do it the propper way this time 😁

PC hibernates an extra time on the next logon after successful backup

Hello! I’m using Veeam Agent for Windows 6.0.2.1090 (free edition) for my backups. I have it set to hibernate my PC after the backup is completed. However, I find that even though the wake + backup + hibernation is successful, the next time I wake the PC after a backup, shortly afterwards, it hibernates without me doing anything. Hello,I have a question about backuping VMs on LHR.Is it ok to backup VMs with snapshots on LHR (retention is set 20day)?? I'm asking because i heard that it is danger - but no details why…. Thanks,

Protect Veeam AUdit Logs with NetApp ONTAP Snaplock WORM Technology

Protecting your Veeam Data Platform Audit Logs is another way keep your security sensitive logs safe. Using NetApp ONTAP SnapLock Write One Read Many (WORM) technology can protect you from bad actors attempting to delete your audit logs. Please make sure the NetApp ONTAP controller has a SnapLock license. The first thing you have to do is create a NetApp FlexVol (volume). I logged into NetApp ONTAP System Manager and from the main menu navigated to “Storage=>Volumes=>+Add” to get to the volume screen below (Figure 1). I filled in the fields and clicked on “More Options”(Figure 2) to display more volume options. If you enable the SnapLock option for the first time, you will be instructed to “Initialize the SnapLock compliance clock” which is required (Figure 3). How to retain VMs brought up using VDRO longer than 7 days

How to retain VMs brought up using VDRO longer than 7 days?In order for us to retain the VMs past 7 days, we decided to basically stop Veeam services on our VDRO server. Needless to say, our VDRO is inoperable at this state. We’d like to bring it up and not affect the VMs that were created. So I think, this means that we need to modify entries in the VDRO database to “cleanly” remove this from VDRO but un-touch on the vSphere side. We can rename the objects in vSphere but not sure if this would work since VDRO may be using object IDs in its DB instead of object name.  The VM involves is a big DB and just running a DB check took about a week and after this a patch needs to be applied necessitating another check that is why we need it longer than 7 days.  Thanks for the ideas and suggestions. I have also opened a low sev ticket with support and will share what they recommend.

Unable to create recovery media with Community Edition 12.1

Hi, built a new home server just in time to test the new 12.1 Community Edition.  Everything seems to work fine except I can’t seem to create a usb recovery stick.  When I click on Recovery Media, I get an error message that says “Cannot find backup file for <Server Name>”. I’ve created a backup on this server and it finished successfully.  Anyone else run into this issue?Thanks!

Windows Server Can It Continue to Evolve and Innovate?

The below are just the thoughts that I've been having over the weekend now that Server 2025 has been announced. This is a long-term view that I believe after seeing how the industry has changed especially over the last 5 - 10 years.For those of us who like myself can remember the joy that DosKey and MemMaker brought to the DOS days, given the ways Windows Server evolved from Windows NT 3.5 days, I have to wonder Can Windows Server still evolve and innovate?With today's drive towards XaaS, serverless & micro-services, the infra landscape is starting to change. The rise of DevOps etc in the past few years shows how the landscape is changing. With this in mind, I wonder just how much can Windows Server continue to innovate.I also think that given the VMware/ Brodcam debacle if Microsoft can't seize a lion's share of the virtualization market to all the up-and-coming contenders then just how long will M/S continue to try and develop more features if the market share isn't there?

Backup issue with two Linux appliances

If I backup two Linux appliances (VMware ova) in different backup jobs which have the same SSH fingerprint name but different values so the backup jobs take it in turn to fail after I have trusted the untrusted SSH fingerprint.  They alternate between being trusted.Is there a way for Veeam to trust both or do I need to look at changing the name on one of the two appliances?

Hi all,We have a problem with oracle archive log filesWe are migrating backups from HP Dataprotector to Veeam Backup & Replication 12. We create a job using Veeam Plug-in for Rman. In the "Database Prossesing settings" window’s, we choose the option "DELETE archived redo logs that were backed up". The ARCHLOGS are deleted, OK, but With HP DATAPROTECTOR we used a script with these commands: archivelog until time 'sysdate-3' not backed up 1 times;delete NOPROMPT archivelog all completed before 'sysdate -7' backed up 1 times to sbt;crosscheck archivelog all;How do we do it with Veeam?Adrian

Cannot access Veeambackup database

Hello everyone.Am not sure if this is the write place to ask this..I forgot the encryption password i have set for my veeam backups, and i want to access the veeamBackup database to get the encrypted password and decrypt it as the online manual says. But as soon as i login to the database with sql server studio with the windows authentication settings, the Veeambackup is not accessible. The sa user is not active. This manual here ‘How to install Veeam Backup and Replication 11 Community Edition with a dedicated SQL Server | Veeam Community Resource Hub’ is exactly the same as my setup, but as soon as i get to the part there i am suppose to open the database VeeamBackup to see the tables etc, i get an error ‘The database VeeamBackup is not accessible’. Also added a screenshot below to show it.Any help on what am i doing wrong?Thank you

Home Lab Special Section?

Hi Everyone,I have moved forward on my home lab. Proxmox is installed and I am finding it very intuitive. I now have to see about what I can do about a Veeam setup (can I nest a Veeam supported Hypervizor in there etc). I have also added one of those ethernet over power lines connections to my basement. That also seems to be working perfectly, hooray no need to rip out walls for cabling. I got to thinking though, so many of us need to test and play with Veeam outside of work confines and the info about home labs is scattered all over the site in different posts. Do  people think it would be helpful to have a separate Home Lab section. This is a place where newbies or people re-thinking their setup could come with the ultimate goal of getting more lab exposure to Veeam. Or should we just leave as be and use the search function? What does everyone think? Again I don’t know how feasible this would be and it would not be a new group per-se. Just an idea.

Veeam EM and Backup Server connection error

Hi,I try to add VBR server to Veeam EM, there is no problem. But sessions tab I see “Database Replication” failed.And the logs like that;“The SQL Server machine hosting the configuration database is currently unavailable. Possible reasons are a network connectivity issue, server reboot, heavy load or hot backup.Please try again later.Error:relation "licensing.cc.ınstancestobackupslinks" does not exist”VBR build is 12.1.0.2131, is not community license, and db is postgre.Thanks,
