VeeamON 2023 How to get to Miami Beach without and Uber of Taxi

Hi Folks, I like to travel in local style while in new cities. Taxi and Uber rides for me are the same everywhere, but train, bus and feet always provide a different experience. Just ask @Chris.Childerhose and Nico Stein about our fun ride on the Prague metro then long walk through the city :). Anyways, Miami is no exception. For $2.25 you can get a bus to Miami Beach. Linux bootable media does not work with Secure boot

Team,Having a hard time trying to get physical server boot from the bootable media if Secure boot enabled. Docs says it is supported, but I can boot up from the media as soon as it is disabled. See the error below. Any suggestions? Cheers,Alex

Veeam errors, newbie here: Unable to apply retention policy. Failed to delete backup files

Hi, I have not been inside Veeam for a while. I am getting errors as in the snapshot below:I understand it is complaining about storage space for backups but I am trying to zero in on what to attack first here. The one that interests me is “Unable to apply retention policy: failed to delete backup files error…...is locked by running session xxx-xxx [Instant recovery]. Is Veeam just too busy to start the backup because it could not apply retention policy? Not sure which item to investigate first...ar

What topics would you want covered in a third edition of my book?

As many of you know I have written two books on Veeam and they have done well. Since going to VeeamON this year I am actually excited to write a third edition now. So based on what you have tested with the Beta what would you like to see covered?I am waiting for the what's new document so I can plan things out but if there a few topics of interest I will try to incorporate them. 😁

Initial backup of a windows computer

It would appear I cannot start my first backup. I installed VEEAM Backup & Replication 11 community edition on my home setup to learn how to manage our work paid edition.Using a 3-2-1 rule I wanted to Backup to QNAS NAS/Chris-Garage D drive/external drive air gapped when other two backups are functioningStep one: I want to backup my laptop Chris LaptopStep two: I installed the software on C:\ of a windows 11 computer called Chris-Garage with cache on D:\Step three: Built a backup for Chris Laptop (windows 10) to backup to Chris-Garage in which failed (see picture below) xx.12 is the laptop and xx.71 is the garage computerStep four: Build logs but can’t find which log would be the error

Install Veeam B&R on second site. License?

Hello,As I’m doing Backup Copy Jobs to second location I think it would be good to have Veeam B&R on that site also if somethings happens with primary location.For me I would need advice on licensing the second Veeam B&R.My primary Veeam B&R is on the primary site so If everything goes down there is no way to restore VM’s without it.

Daylight Saving Time (DST) triggers Full Files to Tape backup of complete repository?

Hi there in Virtual World :)Running Veeam 11 - We experienced a complete full “Files to Tape” backup when the daily Tape job ran for the first time after entering Daylight Saving Time (DST) last weekend.ALL files in our backup Disk repository (xx TB) - that means UNCHANGED Veeam backup files from the last 4 months - was all sent to Tape once again - taking several job-runtime days to finish - and filling up a lot of new Tapes, which we needed to supply into the Tape library.Have anybody else experienced similar issues?As far as I have read - Veeam operates in the UCT format - which should not be sensitive due Server time changes or DST - except changes in the local job time schedule:Daylight savings time - Veeam R&D ForumsDaylight saving switch changes job start time - Veeam R&D Forums We didn`t have any other issues running the usual VM Machine jobs to disk.This issue has been raised to the Veeam Support - and it has been escalated to their RnD engineers.So hopefully they wil

VMCE Exam

As we’re getting close to the end of the year, I’m curious if anyone has heard anything about a new VMCE exam. I passed the 2021 in Dec last yr. From my recollection, I thought the exam only lasts 1yr. But, if there’s not a new exam, or is severely close to being released at the end of the yr, isn’t that cutting it a bit too close for those of us who need/want to renew?Thanks.

Using Nutanix Objects? You might be in violation of MinIO licensing

This wasn’t on my 2022 bingo card… According to MinIO, Nutanix Objects has been using MinIO for years without disclosing this, and after years of discussions, they’ve been unable to find a good faith solution to this. Therefore MinIO have revoked Nutanix’s licenses to MinIO software. I don’t want to misinterpret this as MinIO’s blog post has strong legal vibes to it, but MinIO are advising customers of Nutanix Objects may have legal & security risks by continuing to use Nutanix Objects. You can find MinIO’s statement here: https://blog.min.io/nutanix-objects-violates-minios-open-source-license/As of the time of writing, I’ve been unable to find any announcements from Nutanix relating to their perspective on the matter, via their social media, blog or news resources. If you utilise Nutanix Objects, you certainly need to question how this impacts you, and sooner rather than later!

Replication seeding from a backup on SOBR

Customer is running backups of their VM’s at PROD site to at SOBR and running a backup copy for that job to their DR site (also to a SOBR). They want to replicate some key VMs to their DR site as well and was hoping to seed those replicas from a the backup copy at the DR site. Apparently seeding replicas from a backup (or backup copy) on a SOBR is not supported. Trying to understand why not and how to work around this other than going back to non-SOBR backup repositories?
