Thoughts on using Windows Client OS for all BR server components

Is there any significant downside to using Windows 11 pro as the OS for the BR server roles instead of windows server OS?  I ask because I’ve been evaluating how to migrate our BR infrastructure away from our domain joined servers and one path I'm looking at appears to require using a client OS.  The BR documentation appears to show all roles as supported to be running on the client OS. We have a pretty small deployment.  I would like to avoid using a workgroup for the BR infrastructure if possible, so my thoughts are either (1) use another AD domain in the AD forest.  (2) use Azure Managed Domain Services (3) Use the Free Entra ID and device management.  Option (1) seemed like a nice option at first, but looking at the actual support requirements, it seems like it will add a lot of overhead and I’m not even sure I can reasonably avoid any chicken/egg situation where I’m starting from no running infrastructure and just repository backup data.  Option (2) appears to be way too expensive

Veeam Recovery Media ISO bug

I created a “VeeamRecoveryMedia.iso” with Veeam Agent Free for Windows v6.1.0.349,and copied it to my “Ventoy” ssd external usb case. I have a bug in UEFI mode: unable to press any key when prompted, and finally fall backs to the Ventoy menu.(Boots fine in BIOS mode but useless cause of legacy BIOS boot with GPT image to recover) What to do ?

Veeam Cloud Connect "Connection to Cloud Provider cannot be established"

Hello Veeam Community,there is a problem to connect to our SP Console.When i use the URL we configured with our Cloud-Gateways vcc.xxxx.de and i validate the Certificate from the SP i get the Error: Connection to Cloud Provider cannot be established.Has anyone some ideas to solve this Problem?Thanks for help!

cannot perform instant restore of a linux vm

Hello, Thanks, I am not able to perform an instant restore of a linux VM.I am stuck that the helper appliance dialog box.I select a server from the list, but the OK button is disabled?Using VBR 12.1.0.2131I searched around the forum and internet, could not find the answerPlease advice, thanks, David

An on-demand sandbox has been started with the Keep application group running feature. What will happen to the on-demand sandbox if it is still running when the backup job starts and completes on the next backup run?

Training/Studying: What do you use and why?

Hey everyone, Open discussion today, not just for Veeam but for technology as a whole, what do you use to train and why is that the tool of choice for you? I’d like this to become a good resource for fellow Veeamers to become a launchpad to get started with technologies, as Veeam supports more platforms, the systems we can be dealing with extend as a direct result, so it’s beneficial if we can find our ideal ways of learning and where to go from learning core concepts up to the advanced intricate details of these systems. It’s not always possible for people to have access to corporate resources for testing so bonus points for any cheap/free resources! For example:Microsoft 365/Azure: I have a few favourite YouTubers such as John Savill (https://youtube.com/c/NTFAQGuy) that I’ll use for sprawling concepts such as Azure Kubernetes. Then I’ll use Microsoft Learn for a mixture of lab exercises and walk throughs. Then when I want to start playing with more advanced topics I’ll use my O365/A

Data Compression (File-level backup)

I’ve used Veeam Backup & Replication V10 solutino; have File-level-backup jobs, Synthetic full backup, local repo, and use Optimal Data Compression.My issue is, High and Extreme Data Compression does not compress The Backup.my backups took massive sotrage, why is the compression not working?

Quantum DXi V5000 integration with Veeam - Veeam Data Mover service is not enabled

Hi all,I would like to use Quantum DXi V5000 as deduplication storage appliance  Unfortunately, when adding deduplication storage appliance, there is an error message, that there is no Veeam Data Mover service enabled on the virtual storage appliance To enable Veeam Data Mover service I need to install Veeam Data Mover on the appliance…. The issue is that I do not know default root password for Quantum DXi V5000 and adding non-root user to sudoers file didnt help.Is there any option to manually install Veeam Data Mover on linux based machine?

Hello. I have just configured a test lab of Veeam Community 11. I have servers and workstations configured. I get get notifications of servers but the workstations using the agent doesn’t seem to work !  must be missing something  tony

Design Q for Agent backups

Design question, how to not overload the firewall.Customer has a physical B&R server on LAN1, and a physical Linux Hardened Repo on LAN1.They also have like 100 Physical servers on LAN2, 3 and 4.Traffic goes through the firewall obviously, and the fear is that it will overload it, affecting production.Since we can’t use Proxy Servers for Agent backups (no such thing apparently), how can I avoid pulling the traffic through the Firewall?The B&R Server and LHR are 10Gbit and use tagged VLANs, so I can quite simply add VLAN2,3,4 to the VLAN trunk and give them a link into the Agent VLANs. Will that work? Do I need to add both the B&R server and the LHR, or just the LHR? Can an LHR have several IP’s like that and still work?  Will the traffic go from the agent directly to the LHR or via the B&R server?Other ideas welcome...Thanks!

Veeam Backup V11 Problem with server with SQL transaction log

Hi everyone, I have problem with one of my servers who have MSQL and when the backup is finished i have this warning message “ Unable to truncate Microsoft SQL Server transaction logs. Details: Failed to process 'TruncateSQLLog' command. Failed to truncate SQL server transaction logs for instances: . See guest helper log.” I have search in official support and only find that the veeam account for backup must be MSQL administrator on that database, and to be local admin on that machine. I have make him database admin, but still i have this warning, and the hdd on that machine will be full soon. We have V11 Enterprise with support and so on, but because we are Public Enterprise we have bought this product from one Company in our Town. Can somebody give me some solution instruction step by step ?

Veeam Replication use case

Can someone enlighten me on my queries? If I have to replicate the backup from Prod to DR, what will be the best approach?I believed you can install veeam in the VMware Prod only then Replicate the VM directly to the DR VMware environment, it means no Veeam Mgmt in the DR installed, but on the failback what will the approach for that? I handled other backup before, on Arcserve I must have arcserve on both sites to do the replication, is that approach is feasible to veeam? must have both veeam mgmt for prod and dr If customer have exisiting vsphere replication for critical apps. Do I need to maximize the CDP feature instead of veeam replication?Thanks :)

If a backup copyjob shows one vm in the job in a warning status that says “Waiting for backup resources availability”; did that particular VM actually copy over or did it ultimately fail to copy over?

Restore VM to AWS VPC --- HELP

Hi,  We are using Veeam to back up our on Prem HyperV VMs with no problem.  This is working like a dream.  What we urgently need to do is restore a VM to AWS EC2 that we can RDP onto.Ive tried this but when I start the EC2 instance RDP just doesnt work…. Some backgroundWe have an on-prem domain mydomain.local with two physical host servers that contain around 9 VMsThis onprem set up is also covered by Forticlient VPNIn AWS we have a VPC (for example myVPC) with a public and private subnets.  Im able to spin up new EC2 instances into both subnets and connect them to our domain and login with a mydmomain\User for example with no problem.  The issue is when restoring a VM to EC2 via Veeam to our public subnet - there is no way I can RDP to it.  Ive checked that the security group has RDP 3389 listening but no joy.  I cant imagine that Im the only person who has tried to do this????  Does anyone have any advice or walkthrough on this?  As it’s really giving me a massive headache! Many than

Installation error with iso for VBR v11a P20211211

Hello,I tried to install a new VBR server with the iso of Version 11a P20211211 (VeeamBackup&Replication_11.0.1.1261_20211211.iso).This fails at once with a strange error…Tells you everything you have to know…  After that I tried the install on the same machine with an iso Version 11a P20211005 (VeeamBackup&Replication_11.0.1.1261_20211005.iso) and the Patch to V11a (P20211211 VeeamBackup&Replication_11.0.1.1261_20211211.zip) and all is working fine. Did anyone get this error, too? I did not find anything in the forums to this behavior…Unfortunately I did not have much time and had to get this installed, so I did not get all logs for Veeam support. I will try to recreate this situation….

Veeam Backup & Replication supported encryption standards and methods

One of my clients (public sector) has high security requirements for his IT environment – including backup and storage.I found the following statement from VEEAM about the used encryption standards and methods in Veeam Backup and Replication:“Veeam Backup & Replication supports the following encryption standards and methods:Data EncryptionTo encrypt data blocks in backup files and files archived to tape, Veeam Backup & Replication uses the 256-bit AES with a 256-bit key length in the CBC-mode. This is designed to support the FIPS 140-2 standard. More information around that standard can be found here. As a part of Veeam Backup & Replication’s ability to generate a key based on a password, it uses the Password-Based Key Derivation Function, PKCS #5 version 2.0 as a part of NIST Publication 800-132.
