Happy Friday everyone! Anyone that’s worked with Kubernetes for some time has probably seen or used aliases for common commands. For those that don’t know what an alias is in this context, it’s creating your own shorter command that executes another binary. For example, typing k to run kubectl. I was on Twitter the other day and saw Mick Douglas commenting on the state of the Microsoft Graph API, which by itself is a good read: As I got further in I saw an incredibly funny alias he’d said that he’d created to circumvent his frustration:And I just thought it was brilliant! Especially when you see it in action: That’s my story for the day! Anyone else got any aliases (funny or otherwise) that have made their lives easier/more bearable?

HelloSorry if this is a basic question or a topic already discuss in the forum, but I really need advices regarding GFS before doing an upgrade from version 10.0.0.1 to version 11 .In the documentation it’s said: “Do you have backup copy jobs with synthetic GFS full backups? Before the upgrade, make sure that all GFS candidates (incremental restore points created on days when GFS was scheduled and that are expected to be transformed into full GFS restore points) are already transformed into GFS restore points. To force the backup copy job to transform all GFS candidates, you can temporarily decrease the short-term retention to a value less than the number of restore points between the latest restore point and the most recent GFS candidate and then wait till all the candidates are transformed.” I’m not sure what they meen by “short-term retention” This is my config:thanks for your help 

This little thread got me thinking, and makes me wonder….if you’re tasked with backing up data with a 50 year or 100 year or infinite data retention, this is more than just running a backup and storing it somewhere.  Because what good is a backup that is 30 years old if you have no infrastructure to do anything with it? On a somewhat related topic, I once had a client that needed to keep their Dell/Quest RapidRecovery backups for 7 or 10 years.  They were looking to move to something like a Dell IDPA appliance (I proposed Veeam with a DataDomain).  But the question what, what do you do to keep the servers and MDxxxx DAS’s appliances with the data available for the next 7-10 years?  Or do you somehow convert or restore all of the data and move it to your new backup solution whenever there is some sort of major change?  And then avoiding bit rot?Hypothetically speaking, or practically speaking for you folks that are tasked with such extraordinary retention policies, what is your plan for

For legal purpose we have to make a full backup of one of the server and store it in either the server or tape for infinite retention. If I click on inventory, vcenter server, server name, there are few options like Quick backup, add to backup job….. Can the copy of the backup job be stored for infinite retention in the server since we do not have tape copy activated. Can this job be also used to restore files from backup.Backup server stores files(.vbm and .vbk) for 5 months but the edit backup job retention policy is 12 days. Not sure how the files in the backup server are stored for 5 months.

Did you know there is a curriculum in VeeamIQ called “Veeam Advanced Concepts for Partners”? I didn’t until last night. Like the description says, the videos are all about 10 minutes long and cover all topics like how to set up the backup server, proxies, repositories, transport modes, NAS, CDP, VCC, Automation, Tape, SOBR, etc. Take a look if you haven’t seen this before. This is a great resource for deeper learning or for review of areas you don’t work with often.  

I was wondering if anyone else does this.When we delete a VM, I often have someone come ask me where it was 6 months to a year later and sometimes there is something unnoticed that is broken. Due to the amount of storage we use here (PB’s) I tend to not want to keep all these old VM’s powered off, or even on the Veeam SANs as they take up a ton of space for something that most likely isn’t needed. To resolve this I created a media pool on both tape libraries that has a retention of 2 years. When I power the VM off for the final time I do a Veeam zip, then add it to a file to tape job at both sites.In the file to tape job I just grab the VBK from the repo and then can remove the Veeam ZIP when it’s done.  Even though it’s not 3-2-1 technically the VM’s are requested to be deleted anyways. If I lost them it wouldn’t be critical. Having them on tape is cheap, and people are very happy when they can get their data.      

Hi guys, what is the best option/tool/software to migrate, minimizing downtime, VMs from an esxi host with Intel CPU to an esxi with AMD CPU? I can think of: Veeam CDP policy Veeam quick migration VMWare cold migration VMware converter Can you think of any other methods? Marco S.

As the first month of 2023 draws to a close, most New Year’s resolutions of being healthy, or picking up a new hobby, or quitting a bad habit, tend to lay in ruins. So I ask, what goals have you got for 2023? It’d be nice to commit them to this topic and then see how everyone did over the year. It could be passing an exam, learning a new technology, a career change, or anything! What’ve you got in mind? I’m aiming to finish my Azure Architect journey by achieving the AZ-305 certification, and learning more about Kubernetes. 🙂

Hey guys,I am trying to get a Veeam Restore report from Veeam One Web client but I am not finding Veeam backup & replication widget. Can anybody suggest what should be done next?

Is there a way to test the encryption key on backups without having to run a restore? I ran into a situation recently where the encryption password did not work on restored data. I want to setup Enterprise Manager for everyone, but in the interim, I’d like to manually test each encryption key and reset it/run a new full backup if need be. Is there a way to recover an encryption key with Service Provider Console?

Hi, everyone! I have a weird error popping up in a replication job for one of my client’s and I need some insight. We have a replication job with a number of VMs that are replicating to a local repository. For some reason, the job has started failing and saying the job can’t continue because the replica has been found in an inaccessible state. I’ll paste an example below. I have tried rescanning the repositories and rescanning the managed servers, but no luck. Retry of Replication job finished with Failed. I have two sites a HQ and a remote office on the opposite coast that are connected via VPN, both are running Veeam B&R on a local server at each location to perform local backups. They also do a pull replication of each other for DR. I’m also running Enterprise Manager at HQ. How can I script the server(s) so that the remote pull replication job runs AFTER the local backup job so that the snapshots don’t overlap? I was hoping to use Enterprise Manager to trigger the job to run after the backup completed, but it can only see the local jobs, not the remote ones.

Is it possible to get restore report from Veeam ONE / Veeam enterprise Manager ?

I’m prepping for the upgrade from Veeam v10 to v11.  I have 80+ RMAN clients that use the Veeam Plugin.  The documentation says the RMAN clients plugin version should match the VBR server version.  Do I have to upgrade each client one by one?

hello,i have two Vmware Clusters now both in 6.7 version i want to upgrade to 7 version but for some hardware reaseans i can’t upgrade replication cluster. i already have a replication job in veaam replicate VMs from the master cluster to the replication cluster, my question is if i upgrade the master cluster to 7 version is the replication will work ???? 

Hi All,I have a question about completing replication jobs if the replication windows exceeds.  For the initial replication, Veeam will transfer the base full size of the replicated VM.
