Hi, AllI need to update many free agent on Windows station, after update my Veeam server from 9.5 to 11I’ve think to GPO, but before dive in my GPO, anybody have another solution or advise ?Thanks

Linux Proxy not requiring full su/sudo permissions

Am I the only one who does not like the fact that the Linux Backup/Mount Proxy needs a user that can do a su or sudo on anything?I would love to see the list of commands the Linux Proxy service user is actually using and then I would configure the sudoers list to allow those commands and nothing else.If the service user has the permission to execute any command with sudo, it de facto becomes a second root user, which we would very much like to avoid on any of our Linux boxes!Let me know what you think!

Office 365 Backup Failed (403 Forbidden)

I’m currently running the 30-day trial version of Office 365 backup (5.0.1.225) and everything has been running well for the last 10 days or so.   I have the software set up to run every 8 hours for a whole organization backup. Out of the blue, last night, the backups started failing with “Access denied.  The remote server returned an error: (403) Forbidden”The admin password is the same and Azure AD shows the login for the Veeam account as successful.  I’ve checked our Office 365 Health panel and see nothing new that might impact the backups.  I’m running a backup to a local repository and have rebooted the backup server and the proxy server.  I have plenty (4.8+ TB’s) of storage available on the repository. I went into the Organization setup and reentered the credential info and all of the checkboxes came back as successful. Has anybody else encountered this issue or does anybody have any hints for how to alleviate it?

Best Practices Backup VMs with Disks on different Storages

Hi,we are running VMs on vSAN (VxRail). Backup with hot add mode works fine. Anything is ok.We are planning now, to offload big disks (>3 TB) to an iSCSI Storage device. z.B. PowerStore. So the VMs are running a mixed disk placement. System Disk stays on vSAN. Data Disk will be on iSCSI Storage. iSCSI Storage is attached to the same TOR Switch as the Veeam Rep Server. VMs are not stretched in the vSAN Cluster. Whats the best way to backup? What is your recommandation?

Which Application Aware Backup method do you use?

@Gostev mentioned some data loss issues in conjunction with VMware Tools quiescence in his current “the word from Gostev”. This method is used, when Veeam application-aware processing is not enabled ...… but “VMware Tools quiescence” is.Also because of such issues, Veeam recommends using their application-aware backup.So I want to ask the community, which backup method for application awareness do you use for Windows vSphere-VMs:Veeam application-aware processing VMware Tools quiescence.I personally try to implement Veeam processing whenever possible (security, network,...). At least for AD, SQL-based applications, Exchange, ...

No VM available when creating new backup job on hyper-v standalone

Hi, I have installed Veeam B&R v11 on a windows machine running a 5 Hyper-V vm. I have registered my Hyper-V using backup infrastructure > Add server. It now shows up in backup infrastructure > managed servers > microsoft Hyper-V > Standalone servers. I have created a backup repository on a NAS on the local network. But when I want to create a backup job (home > backup job > Virtual Machine), I have no VM listed. Any advices on what I’m missing to be able to backup my VM?

Backup Copy job Immediate vs Periodic

Hi Folks, Just wanted to share my opinion on this. I was around when Cloud Connect was introduced and remember the struggle with customers when explaining backup copy job copy intervals. Often I would hear.. “can we not just have our legacy, backup job done then offsite?”. Veeam brought in the immediate copy not to long ago and I have already noticed some issues. When you leveraged periodic BC jobs you could set the copy interval differently for tenants with different quality bandwidth. I could be wrong but with Immediate copy if it gets behind it will copy one day, then right away try the next in order to catch up. If you have many backup copy jobs and only so many concurrent connections available this then becomes an issue. I prefer periodic copy, I can say to the tenant, yes we will get your backup copy jobs over the wire but with your current bandwidth we need 3 days… then it is up to them to increase bandwidth.

Archive Offload to AWS Glacier error

Hi,I would like to offload Archives to AWS Glacier. I added a AWS Glacier Repository to an sobr as archive exent. Once offloading starts I get the following error messages.I thing that the gateway server is not able to connect by ssh to the ec2 proxy appliance? Are these Appliances deployed in advance, or just temporary during archive offloading job? It is a new deploy, we didnt use these feature. 01:42:55    Failed to provision a proxy appliance: Unable to connect by SSH to appliance.     04:3201:47:28    Queued for processing at 28.04.2021 01:47:28     01:47:33    Task failed. Veeam VMCE Trainig On Demand

i want to be a Veeam VMCE, but in my country no Veeam Training center. As per I know that it is need to take trainig before sit in the exam.So that I request to Veeam, is it possible to crate any on deamnd course like VMware, so that we can take the training and sit in the exam. I request to Veeam to see the issue. Stay Home, Stay Safe.

Ransomware discovery time and retention times

 i had some discussion on the matter of retention times in context of protection against ransomware/insider attacks. Setting up a hardened repository and making data immutable for a certain amount of time is great stuff to implement. But how long is long enough?I can remember some research or reports stating there is an "average" discovery time of ransomware / encrypted data , but i cant seem to find the articles anymore.What would people here recommend for setting retention times for specifically protecting against these attacks?I'm thinking about something arround 14 - 31 days of immutable daily backups at minimum. Any shorter has higher chance of matching an attackers' maximum amount of patience for example, to just let data expire on the repo before taking action perhaps.Or are you seeing pretty short detection times in your experience and the most recent backup was used most of the time to recover? I'm crossposting from the R&D forum. Perhaps it is better to dicuss this here.

Does anyone have advice on a Restore from an AWS Bucket?

Hi,We are having some backups copied to an AWS bucket using Veeam Backup and Replication 11. The backups have been copying up to the bucket okay but today I was going to practice restorations and am a little confused about whether I did a restore from the internet or from the performance tier. The log said the restore was from AWS Veeam Object1 which should be the Amazon server. It seemed kind of quick. I was expecting it to take hours for a small server. It was 34 minutes. Maybe de-duplication is really good.This was in the log:Restoring Hard disk 1 (40 GB) : 30.3 GB restored at 18 MB/s  [nbd] 3.9 GB downloaded from capacity tier, 9.9 GB copied from performance tierSo far I haven’t seen any documentation that specifically walks us through restoration from a bucket.It’s possible I’m still thinking of our network speed with a 2015 frame of mind. I want to be sure I’m doing this right. Thanks,Bob

Instant Restore from Restore Point located on AWS S3 Veeam Backup & Replication 9.5 Update 4

I am using Veeam Backup & Replication 9.5 Update 4.My backups are sent to Amazon S3 buckets after 30 days.I am trying to do a Instant VM recovery from a Restore Point located in the S3 bucket.I ran the restore and the Log file is telling me.Restore session Status: In progress.Log (Last 2 lines)<machine name> has been recovered successfullyWaiting for user to start migrationI don’t know where to go from here. I am having a hard time finding any documentation for this.Using vSphere Client version 6.7.0.46000Any help would be appreciated.

Overlapping space efficiencies with Veeam and Pure Storage FlashArray//C

Can any one speak to Pure FlashArray//C Dedupe/Compression in combination with Veeam space efficiencies? Can Pure still get 3:1 after Veeam does its thing? I’m getting mixed messages on this. Thanks in advance!

File to tape catalog migration

Hello, we are using file-to-tape jobs to archive old files like pst files. After running the file-to-tape job we delete the files on the file-system.In the Veeam B&R console you can find the archived files in the “files” section and you can search the file name. This information is stored in the tape catalog data and you can find this by double clicking on the tapes, too. So this information is saved in the database, but how can i migrate or export/import this information to another veeam server? I am currently migrating some smaller Veeam server together to one single management server and the smaller server will be used as backup proxy. (without db) So on a new Veeam server i will get this information only by doing a inventory and catalog of all the old tapes.Is there another solution for this ?

VMware Horizon VDI support

Hello, I have been asked by one of Veeam partners about my take if it comes to Veeam support for VMware Horizon VDI platform, despite the choice of taking the POC option I also chose to take your input on this. Considering that VMware Horizon VDI is based on ESXi, do we still consider the desktops(Instances) or sockets as unit of licensing?  If so, is there any operational implication or/and limitation if it comes to operations and protection of the VMware Horizon components?  Just to mention I was able to get this old article (posted 2011) but with many Veeam versions since then I decided not to fully reference ithttps://forums.veeam.com/vmware-vsphere-f24/vmware-view-best-practices-backing-up-vdi-server-clients-t6517.html
