Hi Team,Since few days ago I get this error message when run a job in Veeam for Microsoft 365: “JetError -1032, JET_errFileAccessDenied, Cannot access file, the file is locked or in use”And reposity state says “invalid”The repository is a SMB shared and I can access from Windows Explorar without any problem. Can you give me and advice could be the problem? Hi all, I need support to find the correct way to merge 2 VEEAM Server into one.We have VEEAM A and VEEAM B, both with their data domain. for now these two servers are separate and we want to merge A and B to have only A.In my head we have to:Configure the DD of the VEEAM B on VEEAM A and rescan it. Configure a backup job with the VMs of the VEEAM B on the VEEAM A and, during the configuration, map the backup.if we take these steps are we OK or I’m missing something?Thank you.

I have a very unstable wireless connection on an endpoint that likes to go down during periods of high use, or just whenever it feels like it. Addressing the connection issue remains its own task, but for the time being, it seems like the Veeam Agent (Agent for Microsoft Windows 5.0.3.4708) is very intolerant to any sort of network issues. When the connection inevitably goes down, the backup process will be cancelled with the error:Error: write: An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host Failed to backup file. I’ve looked through the backup settings, and I did see one section titled Backup Cache which apparently is supposed to cache the backup locally until Veeam can connect to the server. Despite having this option enabled, the Agent still throws its hands up at the first sign of network trouble.Hoping there is someone here who knows a magic trick to get the Agent to tolerate unstable connections, or c

File backup job is failing with above error please assist.

The workstation is in a Protection Group and Agent Version 5.0.3.4708 is installed.The workstation was added over the Active Directory and the AD shows Windows 10 Professional is installed.  I also logged into the workstation and yes indeed Windows 10 Professional is installed.  Windows 11 is blocked from installing in our Network using a GPO and the Workstation was not upgraded to Windows 11 and then reset back to Windows 10.Its been showing the warning since Tuesday.  Removing it from the Protection Group and re-adding it does not help.

I’ve randomly had two backups corrupt at one of my clients. Not sure why it happened, but they did. On one of them, I deleted from disk all of the restore points on the local datastore, and took a new full. I left the cloud data alone, and as we speak, the new restore points are peacefully transferring offsite, no issue. The second backup has been a different story… Because of the nature of the server, I decided to take a new full and leave the old data in place, just in case. The new full local backup was fine, but the offsite failed. I tried running an active full of the offsite, but same deal; the offsite failed. So now I am trying a new strategy. I took a look at the restore points and 99% were corrupted (I believe this was the offsites), so I decided to just wipe everything and start from scratch, because I think the corrupted restore points are causing issues with the new data going offsite. The offsite failures have been throwing an error I’ve never seen before.

Team,Having a hard time trying to get physical server boot from the bootable media if Secure boot enabled. Docs says it is supported, but I can boot up from the media as soon as it is disabled. See the error below. Any suggestions?  Cheers,Alex

Hi All, Currently we do an Instant recovery from the ‘Entire Computer’ backup taken by Veeam agent, it goes for P2V conversion. Once the instant recovery completes, when we initiate ‘Migrate it to Production’ (may be to VMware Hypervisor using dedicated proxy which can handle 4 concurrent tasks. But it seems Veeam is treating the restore as single task and the number of VMDK files/Disk associated with the restored VM is migrated one by one which prolongs the RTO. Is there a way to consider each VMDK file as separate task (which will allow for parallelism) during the entire VM restore (using instant recovery method and ‘Migrate it to Production’)?

FYI, for those of you with WordPress sites (looking at you Vanguards, but I’m sure there are others), I came across a nice plugin for backing up to Wasabi.  This isn’t really Veeam specific at all, but I figured I’d share anyway.You can find a WordPress plugin called backWPup and create a Wasabi bucket and point the plugin to backup there.  Wasabi actually has a page dedicated to it, but honestly, it was so easy to setup, it was probably unnecessary.  It can of course backup to FTP, Dropbox, Google drive and such like most apps, and there are probably other plugins that do this as well, but since a lot of folks have Wasabi accounts already, I figured it might be helpful for others if they don’t already have something in place.https://wasabi-support.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/115001900632-How-do-I-use-Ba

HelloSorry if this is a basic question or a topic already discuss in the forum, but I really need advices regarding GFS before doing an upgrade from version 10.0.0.1 to version 11 .In the documentation it’s said: “Do you have backup copy jobs with synthetic GFS full backups? Before the upgrade, make sure that all GFS candidates (incremental restore points created on days when GFS was scheduled and that are expected to be transformed into full GFS restore points) are already transformed into GFS restore points. To force the backup copy job to transform all GFS candidates, you can temporarily decrease the short-term retention to a value less than the number of restore points between the latest restore point and the most recent GFS candidate and then wait till all the candidates are transformed.” I’m not sure what they meen by “short-term retention” This is my config:

This little thread got me thinking, and makes me wonder….if you’re tasked with backing up data with a 50 year or 100 year or infinite data retention, this is more than just running a backup and storing it somewhere.  Because what good is a backup that is 30 years old if you have no infrastructure to do anything with it? On a somewhat related topic, I once had a client that needed to keep their Dell/Quest RapidRecovery backups for 7 or 10 years.  They were looking to move to something like a Dell IDPA appliance (I proposed Veeam with a DataDomain).  But the question what, what do you do to keep the servers and MDxxxx DAS’s appliances with the data available for the next 7-10 years?  Or do you somehow convert or restore all of the data and move it to your new backup solution whenever there is some sort of major change

For legal purpose we have to make a full backup of one of the server and store it in either the server or tape for infinite retention. If I click on inventory, vcenter server, server name, there are few options like Quick backup, add to backup job….. Can the copy of the backup job be stored for infinite retention in the server since we do not have tape copy activated. Can this job be also used to restore files from backup.Backup server stores files(.vbm and .vbk) for 5 months but the edit backup job retention policy is 12 days. Not sure how the files in the backup server are stored for 5 months.

Did you know there is a curriculum in VeeamIQ called “Veeam Advanced Concepts for Partners”? I didn’t until last night. Like the description says, the videos are all about 10 minutes long and cover all topics like how to set up the backup server, proxies, repositories, transport modes, NAS, CDP, VCC, Automation, Tape, SOBR, etc. Take a look if you haven’t seen this before. This is a great resource for deeper learning or for review of areas you don’t work with often.  

I was wondering if anyone else does this.When we delete a VM, I often have someone come ask me where it was 6 months to a year later and sometimes there is something unnoticed that is broken. Due to the amount of storage we use here (PB’s) I tend to not want to keep all these old VM’s powered off, or even on the Veeam SANs as they take up a ton of space for something that most likely isn’t needed. To resolve this I created a media pool on both tape libraries that has a retention of 2 years. When I power the VM off for the final time I do a Veeam zip, then add it to a file to tape job at both sites.In the file to tape job I just grab the VBK from the repo and then can remove the Veeam ZIP when it’s done.  Even though it’s not 3-2-1 technically the VM’s are requested to be deleted anyways. If I lost them it wouldn’t be critical. Having them on tape is cheap, and people are very happy when they can get their data.

As the first month of 2023 draws to a close, most New Year’s resolutions of being healthy, or picking up a new hobby, or quitting a bad habit, tend to lay in ruins. So I ask, what goals have you got for 2023? It’d be nice to commit them to this topic and then see how everyone did over the year. It could be passing an exam, learning a new technology, a career change, or anything! What’ve you got in mind? I’m aiming to finish my Azure Architect journey by achieving the AZ-305 certification, and learning more about Kubernetes. 🙂
