Morning All Just moving over from Hornet / Altaro to Veeam 12 Community Edition. Set up is in Production have 3 Hosts with 9 VM’s between them. Mainly Server 2016 but one Linux and one Server 2022.All backup every 12 hours onsite and then Backup copy offsite.Offsite copy is onto a different VM Host with enough oomph and memory / storage to run whole lot in an emergency although PAINFULLY Slowly.Anyhow have done a test restore and all Server 2016’s and Linux come up fine (Need a couple of re-boots to recognise new Network etc to talk properly to each other. Server 2022 comes up will not boot due to the Key Protector could not be unwrapped as obviously a different host with different TPM Etc.If I kill the VM but keep the Virtual HDDs and create a new Virtual machine with same settings it all works but is there any way round this?
Happy Friday everyone! It’s time to get competitive 😁 What’s the fastest backup speed you’ve ever achieved with Veeam? I was working with a system recently that wasn’t using any flash within the backup repositories, but beefy RAID controllers and multiple RAID 60’s, and saw a pretty impressive 3GBps throughput at a job level. Sure it’s not NVMe speeds, but it’s certainly no slouch! And I can’t talk about this subject without bringing up my favourite ever UI Bug within Veeam, when I ‘achieved’ a speed of ~429.49PB/s 😂On your marks… get set… post!
Have an old ESXi 5.5.0 update 2 ver 5.77.3 host. Downgraded Veeam from ver 12 to 11, with the understanding that ver 11 supported ESXi 5.5. VeeamZip starts and quickly errors out with “Current VSphere license or ESXi version prohibits.” any thoughts? Thanks.
I know it’s late on a Friday, but I wanted to get this out of my head and off my mind before I forgot. For our internal backup infrastructure, I’m the proud owner of a new Dell PowerEdge R550 with lots of space on local disk. It’s going to replace a Synology RackStation that is slowly dying and is several years old. The new server also has dual 25Gb connectivity (and dual 1Gb connectivity) that will allow me direct ISCSI access to our PowerStore 500T array. This server will be the primary backup repository for our primary site. I am aware that if set this server up as a VHR/LHR, I cannot utilize direct storage access because functions required as a proxy server are not available when the server is hardened. If I choose to forgo the direct storage access capabilities as a proxy server and move forward with a LHR, are there any caveats of using a LHR as your primary repo? I don’t really NEED direct storage access. There’s not that much data to backup every day, and I can still use
📢System Administrator Appreciation Day , celebrated on last Friday of July, is a time to recognize and appreciate the hard work and expertise of system administrators. It's a day to express gratitude for their tireless efforts in maintaining our digital infrastructure and ensuring the security of our systems.During this special occasion, organizations and colleagues unite to honor their system administrators with gratitude and admiration. Special events and awards are organized by companies to acknowledge the invaluable contributions of these SysAdmin "heroes’’.🏆To make this year memorable for our Veeam Community, we have planned some exciting surprises and activities for all our members! In July, our Blog of the Month activity is dedicated to all Sys Admins out there! If you have an interesting story to share with our Veeam Community about a time when you saved the day or, on the contrary, faced a challenge but can offer valuable tips and tricks for others to learn from your experien
I noticed VBR v12 RTM removed the " Install a new instance" selection from the Installation setup with the Microsoft SQL Server. An error message will pop up if the Microsoft SQL Server or Microsoft SQL Server Express does not install locally or remotely. That means I need to install Microsoft SQL or SQL express before installing Veeam Backup and Replication manager server (I knew v12 supports PostgreSQL) if I would like to work with Microsoft SQL? or is it a bug?
I want to restore a backed-up 365 mailbox to another user. I’m following the guide in the Restore-VEXItem help page:https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backup/explorers_powershell/restore-vexitem.html?ver=120I’m following example 5:$session = Get-VBOExchangeItemRestoreSession$database = Get-VEXDatabase -Session $session -Name abc.onmicrosoft.com$salesmailbox = Get-VEXMailbox -Database $database -Name "sales"$creds = Get-CredentialRestore-VEXItem -Mailbox $salesmailbox -Server outlook.office365.com -Credential $creds -RestoreChangedItemExcept I’m restoring to another mailbox, so my last line is like:Restore-VEXItem -Mailbox $salesmailbox -Server outlook.office365.com -Credential $creds -RestoreChangedItem -TargetMailbox $TargetmailboxIt always fails with something like“Cannot open mailbox: myuser@mysite.com”Veeam can find both the source and the target account using:Get-VBOOrganizationUser -Organization $Organization -UserName ‘myuser@mysite.com’So I’m not sure what might be wrong. Any id
G'day fellow Community "Hub-sters"! On the Weekly Recap a couple weeks ago, @Rick Vanover brought up what he thought would be a great Blog post for the Hub – "Rate My Design", based off a discussion he had with a customer; a diagram of folks' Veeam infrastructure. After thinking about what he said for a bit, I thought it would be fun, and thought-provoking, to provide a bit of a twist to his suggestion. What twist did I think of? To not (initially) share what my environment looks like, but rather provide what resources I have in my environment, then ask you, the Community, how you would best implement Veeam using those resources. From a high-level, I'll share capital and operational items. Then based off what's already in place (can't add other OP/CAP expenditures), you can provide a high-level design. This is just for fun only…so have fun with it. 😊After a few days or so, I'll share how I've implemented Veeam with the same resourcesPhysical Environment2 datacenters, DC1 (main site) an
Hey guys!I just wanted to show my love for VEEAM - I have brought them with me from company to company over my nearly 20 year career and the product only gets better over time - I know it has some flaws as does every solution but I am happy to be implementing a new VEEAM environment and finally getting rid of the atrocious Rubrik chaos I have been a VEEAM champion for a while now - and I have brought my VEEAM team with me from company to company and with any luck, one of these days, I will find out how to earn the “VEEAM Legend” title
Hello everyone,I faced a weird issue, I am not sure it’s normal or not, however it wasn’t like that before. The issue is when adding Proxy or Repo by clicking “Add New” it doesn’t work and show errors in the installation, however when add the machine in advance from adding servers, then add it as Proxy or Repo from the existing servers, it works. Please advise.
Just so nobody is caught off guard, Wasabi announced a rate increase on Object Storage pricing a week or two ago from 5.99/TB/Mo to 6.99/TB/Mo for Pay-Go and new RCS accounts on Aug 1. (increasing on Oct 1 for existing RCS accounts). If you’re like me and on the brink of moving to an RCS account from Pay-Go, do it in the next two weeks to capture that extra $1/TB/Mo savings.Still an awesome value either way, but I know more than a few of us use it so wanted to make sure everyone was in the loop.https://knowledgebase.wasabi.com/hc/en-us/articles/15566987584795
Hi, Has anyone experienced VBR spinning up huge amounts of instances of a process, and consuming all RPC ports? I suspect it’s AV related due to the customer’s AV change occurring at a similar time, but we’ve got the rules in place to exempt directories and binaries. I’ve seen VBR have port exhaustion exactly once before, that was a VCC installation and the firewall was half-closing sessions and Veeam wasn’t doing a good job detecting this and freeing up ports subsequently. This scenario is different however.VBR server that is only for job orchestration (all backup & repo roles are on physical appliances, proxy & repo roles uninstalled from VBR). Server was up for less than 6 hours yesterday, and it spawned 18,000 threads of VeeamTransportSvc, all looping back to itself. But the server ran out of available ports and/or buffer space and then normal connections such as backup repository availability checks were failing, causing VBR to mark the repositories as offline, then causin
Hi, I am trying to create a backup to tape job. The source is a repository. The repository is a catalyst store (StoreOnce 3640). Although there are backup files on the catalyst store generated by an RMAN plugin job, The job is unable to read any full or incremental backup files and the job completes but doesn’t process anything. I can browse the store on the devices management interface and see the backup files. But it is not being detected on Veeam side. I’m using Veeam version 12. I’ve attached a screenshot. Any ideas are appreciated. Thanks!
I have heard of a few 3rd party apps for iOS but they dont seem to be up and running anymore does anyone know of a way to manage or even view my VEEAM environment via an app for iOS?
Do you guys use these? If you do give an example of how they help you in your day to day activities. For myself, I have been a RoboCopy guy for years. I often schedule a task and let it run with no issues. It’s great for seeding directory's for file server migrations, or just making sure you have a mirrored folder somewhere else on the network. Recently I had an odd request to sync a folder from one location to another, but there were strict firewall rules for security an access rules. RoboCopy was not an option. As Veeam had access to both servers, I was able to create a copy job on a schedule and solve this issue. As we have very strict user permissions in many areas, this feature is a game changer for us. Even if it’s to copy files to another location for safe keeping.
Hi,I would like to know if someone else had a issue after upgrading V11 to V12.The machine itself is also added to a Physical Veeam group who is taking backup of himself.Since the update it mentions that there are communication issues between both (same) servers.I have a case with Veeam, but they do not respond already for 2 days, what is odd.I do not want to investigate myself any longer, just curious if there is a simular case or experience with it with other members. Thank you!
Hi All, I am trying to upgrade Veeam backup for M365 frm 5.0.179 to 7.0.0.3604. the upgrade is getting stopped just when it gets started. Anyone faced this scenario. how to solve this.
Hi,I have 2 locations with a Veeam server and a vCenter cluster with 2 hosts. The configuration is on both servers identical. One one location, when running a job with application awareness, the inventorying guest system and the other preparing jobs are taking several seconds, but on the other location, it takes minutes. It does not fail, but the time of processing is much longer. The difference I see, on the ‘slow’ location, all communications running via vCenter. On the fast one, all is going direct from B&R server to the VM.Firewall rules are identical and I don’t see any blocks, so the slow one does not try to direct connect to the VM.Any ideas where to look for?The B&R server is in a seperated VLAN with explicit firewall rules between them, conform the manuals. Thank you!
Hello all,I am looking for a "simple" way to generate a notification when a backup or copy job is edited in VBR. The idea at the beginning is just to get an info (mail), not to rate the modification, if it’s a good or bad modification. Examples of bad changes would be reducing retention, changing encryption password, etc.Ideas how to realize this? Native in VBR i think there is nothing, Veeam One? External monitoring? Script? Many greetingsMatze
Hi Folks, First off don’t ask 😁 “why do you want to do this” :), I don’t but I have no choice as the customer is going to do this and I can’t convince them otherwise. However, they are asking about consequences :(, So a customer has an M365 multitenant backup. They want to rename the server and give it a new IP. The proxies and repositories will remain the same. They are not leveraging S3 only old style repos and they have no portal my understanding is that there is no database that has recorded the console’s hostname and IP (unlike VBR) so changing the name and IP should not have any affect (only perhaps firewall stuff if they have any rules tied to the old IP).Is this correct? Thanks
Hello, Wondering if anyone knows how to get around this, Iv moved the veeam software to another host and done a clean setup trying to do the first backup of OneDrive it just keeps timing out. The console gives the error “failed to process all objects”. Is there a setting or timeout limit I need to be adjusting somewhere? It seems to run for different amounts of time before timing out which is throwing me off. Is there a better way to do this? Thanks in advance.
Hello, I am trying to install an ubuntu server on version 22.04.1 or 22.04.2 without thier I get error "Permission denied Error creating directory /backups/repo001/backups/ agent could not process methodFileSystem.DirectoryCreate"Has anyone happened to you?
Hello,Is it possible to determine on which restore point a file is backed up if I don't know its deletion date? Or do I need to search through all the restore points? Thank you
I think I’ve missed something, but we have a requirement to retain backups certain machine for 7 years even after the machines have been decommissioned…How are you supposed to do that with Veeam?I can see that you can export certain backups, but so does that mean that I need to export a backup from each year to other storage?
Dear all,Today, we are pleased to announce the winner of the May+ June Blog of the Month, as we promised. This month we have a clear winner Sir @MicoolPaul , with his blog ''Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365: Immutability & Backup Copies’' Congratulations! 👏💚😻Note: Please keep in mind that July is a month dedicated to SysAdmin Day, so go ahead and write your content about a situation when you saved the day! I will come back with a post to explain this better! Best, Madi
