Recently, I was involved in a production support case where a Veeam software appliance deployed on physical hardware failed to boot after an unexpected power interruption.The system dropped directly into:“You are in emergency mode. A new blueprint has been added to the Veeam Communities hub site in collaboration with Joe Gremillion. The E-Series is a general-purpose all-block SAN array. This design includes copying jobs to Veeam Vault. We currently pair an E-Series model with a Veeam hardened repo for immutability support. The E-series family includes the E4012 and the E4060 The E4012 has a 12-drive disk shelf with external storage capabilities of up to 96 drives hybrid HDD or SSD. Hi all,I would like to share with you that it is possible to reset the IPMI password using a bootable USB drive and physical access. This works perfectly on an OOTBI. I haven't tested it on an Exagrid, but I believe it should work as well.In the event of a lost IPMI password or a bad copy/paste during installation (note that the password must not exceed 20 characters), it is possible to reset it to its default value.IPMI password can be reset to default by restoring the factory settings IPMI module using the tools available IPMICFG, IPMITOOL. Be careful it may happen that the network configuration is restored to the factory settings, so before performing this operation, note the current network configuration. IPMICFG is available for DOS, Linux and Windows.PREPARATION:Preparing a USB key with your favorite OS (eg. Happy Wednesday, Community!Some good news came from the Veeam KB Support team yesterday. There will now be the ability to change log location for all of the Veeam Software Appliances → VSA, VIA, VHR. I know there have been some posts on here for those early in testing out VDP v13 where space has become an issue on the VSA. This change allows VDP users to modify the log location to a more robust storage location on the the Appliances to hopefully mitigate encountered space issues.But keep in mind...if you do indeed modify the log location on your Appliances, there is a caveat as noted at the top of the KB -“Automated log collection tools built into both the Veeam Backup & Replication Web UI of the Veeam Software Appliance and the "Create support bundle" function within the Host Management Console collect logs only from the default log location, /var/log/VeeamBackup/ . I was surprised when I started looking at Scale to discover that they have been around since 2012, announcing their HC3 appliance powered by HyperCore. Then in 2019 8.2 released with major updates and security mitigations, and the key piece for what I think their use case fits was announced in 2022 Scale Fleet Manager. More on that in a bit.
