Better late than never Berlin Recap

 Being my second Summit, I was more prepared traveling half way around the world this time, and excited to see everyone I previously met in Prague and Miami.   DAY 1On Day 1 I received my swag and checked in. The trophy was such a awesome surprise! My nephews wanted to play with it but I had to explain it’s on my desk because it isn’t a toy. The jacket fits perfect and I’ve already put the screwdriver to use. Due to passport issues I had to book my travel last minute and couldn’t get a spot in the VRO workshop. I didn’t bring a laptop but would in the future as spots do open up. As I’m looking at a quote for VRO right now it would have been a great workshop.   DAY 2To say I’m excited for V12.3 and V13  is an understatement. Some of the new Veeam ONE features are going to be game changers for me. I won’t dive too deep as there was some Yellow and Red content but I’m sure Veeam will be releasing some teasers shortly. My Veeam100 Summit Berlin Experience

This year marked the 5th year being priviledged enough to attend the Veeam100 Summit. Since my 1st attendance in 2018, the venue has normally been held in Prague, CZ. The Product Strategy Team decided to change things up a bit and hold this year’s event in Berlin, DE; that would be Deutschland , or Germany, for those who use Duolingo 🙂 . With the event being held in a new city, and getting a preview of some of the content decided upon to be shared, I was really looking forward to the event this year!The Summit was held the last week of October. And personally, I love going this time of year to central Europe as the Fall colors are at or slightly past peak color.Fall in BerlinI got to Berlin a day and a half early so I can peruse around the city to take in some sites I’ve longed to see since my youth – Berlin Wall Memorial, Brandenburg Gate, Holocaust Memorial, etc. It was so surreal viewing the Berlin Wall Memorial. Fast storage and configuration.

I connected a new SAN and 2 servers that will be used for Veeam. These are just some “Hero numbers” of reads and intend to do a writeup of design with proper benchmarks in the future.  When you have an environment with a large quantity of data, you still need to be able to restore it quickly or run instant restores while you migrate to production.   For a preliminary test I connected 2 servers to a single SAN and created a few volumes to run IOMeter.  23.9k MBPS = 23.9GBps =191.2 Gbps.  with sub millisecond latency @ 240k IOPS I am very happy. There is always a bottle neck to account for in design. Usually it’s budget 🤣.  Currently my limitation is the amount of of servers/ports at this point. Specifically 32Gb fiber ports as they are all running at 100%. If I had another server or more ports available on the repositories, I have no doubt this thing would be hitting close to 36GB/s.  Storage snapshots from production along with fast networking from proxies to repositories is critical

Veeam 100 Berlin experience: revisiting history

  Hi! I would like to share an additional aspect that I was able to experience during the Veeam 100 Summit in Berlin. In addition to Summit's fantastic agenda, already brilliantly described in posts by colleagues in the community (congrats, ​@alrasheed) and by ​@NikolaPejkova ​, this contact with history was a very constructive and rewarding experience for me!I had the rare opportunity to visit symbols that marked my youth and have always fascinated me.One of the things that impacted me the most during my adolescence was the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989, which I watched on TV. This event celebrated its 35th anniversary six days ago (!). 👏🏻👏🏻The fall represented a symbolic victory for freedom and determination for the entire world, still caught in the Cold War. Deploying Data Immutability with the Veeam Hardened Repository ISO

Hey all, I just finished posting the third of a three-part series on deploying the Veeam Hardened Repository ISO.  I’ve been waiting a long time for the ISO to be released and have been occasionally bugged Rick about it, but this thing has been solid for me for over a week.  I’ve had a server waiting for it for over a year and it was worth the wait as it was super easy to deploy aside from working around the slightly buggy GUI for Rocky Linux.  I will note that Hannes specified 64GB of RAM for the VHR ISO, but my PowerEdge R550 that we ordered for the task previously has 32GB and seems to be keeping up just fine, though time will tell. Since it’s broken up into multiple parts, I’ll just share links to my blog rather than copying it into this post, though I will share a few screenshots as a teaser.Part 1Part 2Part 3Also thank you to everyone that had previously posted or had input on network bonding in Linux.  It was helpful as I setup my first 802.3ad bond on a server.  Let me know you
