Solved

Good day all,Need some great specs suggestions for creating a suitable VM to run my new backup software. My boss said VM only, nor Bare metal. What specs are you running in your environment? not the default Veaam sys req online, that is too general. I just need some workable ideas

I’m just learning this software and I was wondering what were to happen if my backup server computer was destroyed or something went wrong and how I would be able to access the backup from a new computers server?I saw this article:  https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backup/vsphere/importing_backups.html?ver=120But it mentions:The server from which you plan to import backups must be added to the backup infrastructure. Otherwise, you will not be able to access backup files. So I am wondering - how can I add that server to a new computers server if the original server is gone?  Would this mean those backups are never able to be recovered?

Hello,Next year i will buy dedicated BareMetal server for VBR, tape drive and Azure HCI node for hypervisor.Currently i propose install VBR on BareMetal server and use local hdd as repository and as tape server also. Also i have another thought to install linux on the BareMetal and install VBR on the VM inside Azure HCI. But with this scenario, can i use that linux server as tape server also?Which two scenario above is best and whether anyone here have another best scenario also?

Hopefully someone here can help me:I have two Windows Clusters, one in Site A and one in Site B.  Inside these windows clusters are two Windows File Server Clusters as guest clusters consisting of three nodes in Site A (FS_CLUSA) and two nodes in Site B (FS_CLUSB) .  Each fileserver cluster is using a shared vhdx file as the storage volume.Ideally I would like to replicate FS_CLUSA → FS_CLUSB however Veeam does not support replication of virtual machines with shared VHDX or CSV volumes. We settled on the idea of simply doing a volume level backup of FS_CLUSA and restoring it to FS_CLUSB to keep the two clusters up to date (give or take a few hours).  I have been able to restore the volume from FS_CLUSA to FS_CLUSB via the console no problem, because I can specify a different target to the host. However reading the veeam powershell documentation to start to automate this process, leads me to the command Start-VBRComputerVolumeRestore (which only supports restoration to the original locati

One of our customers is currently using VBR 12.1. Customer is replication some VMs form Primary site to Secondary site. Customer is planning to run a script for installing some package during the replication job is running. When the VMs failback to secondary to primary customer wants run again script for uninstall the package. Is it possible to run this script during failback? If not possible what can we do in this case?Any idea? Thanks is advamce

Hello everyone! Help me to remember: On v12 shouldn't I be able to run an active full separately by VM?I right click on VM but nothing happens. Obs.: My repository is setup per machine backup files.

Hi folks, I need to understand a little bit about NAS backup using NDMP protocol. I have read this article https://www.veeam.com/blog/nas-data-protection-best-practices.html written by Matt Crape. In particular I want discuss about third modelThree-way model: In this model, backup data flows from NAS to the backup server, which then sends that data to the backup device. This model requires three-way communication between NAS, the backup server and the backup device. Some advantages of this model are that it allows for better control over the backup process and greater scalability. However, this option may also introduce additional load on your network. If I understood VBR Server manage backup, after connecting with NAS, and write on a primary repository.  HAve you experience in this model backup? I will try to push the customer to use classic file backup starting from here https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backup/hyperv/file_share_support.html?ver=120 But if our client want use NDMP I n

Hi, I am testing with Veeam to find out if it suits our needs. My first backup job though already fails under the rescan. Running the guest credentials test gives me this error in the log:‘RPC client failed to call method [GetSvcVersion]’.I like to backup a Windows 11 VirtualBox VM. The Windows firewall is switched off on that machine. VirtualBox and Veeam B&R are running on the same machine. The VM is connected via bridged networking. The RPC services are running on the VM and the Veeam installer service on the Veeam B&R machine. Thanks for any help or hints.

I’m experiencing an identical issue to this post on the latest version of Veeam B&R and Veeam Agent for Windows.  I’m creating a new post to learn if there is another option besides simply disabling the CBT driver.Veeam B&R Version: 12.1.2.172Veeam Agent for Windows Version: 6.1.2.134Windows Version: Windows 10 Pro 22H2 19045.4713Problematic Device: Amazon Kindle Paperwhite 5Error: SYSTEM THREAD EXCEPTION NOT HANDLEDFailed: VeeamVolumeCT.sysIn contrast to the original post, I cannot bypass this issue by leaving the device connected during boot.  Windows immediately returns the BSOD - or GSOD in my case - and experiences a boot loop.Uninstalling the CBT driver from Veeam B&R removes the issue but the implications of this solution are less than ideal as the Veeam CBT driver should be in use.

This is a reproducible BSOD caused by a veeam software driverI know this is strange, but, so far, this happens on two machines in my home lab.1. windows 11 laptop - running VAgent - 6.0.2.10902. windows server 2022 - running VBR - 12.0.0.1420 P20230718Every time I plugged in my Kindle into the USB port, Windows does a BSODTo be honest, I am very dependent on my Kindle. My old model died, just got the new one and every time I plug it in, my machine hard crashes with BSOD, on every machine I have at home. What does the .sys file do, Is there a way to disable that .sys driver, is there a temporary workaround, anything? Please Help, David

I have an install of Enterprise Manager that is still referencing an old vcenter server that does not exist any longer.  Of course, I can’t just right click it and remove it, since it doesn’t exist anymore, so I was wondering what procedure I can follow to remove this stale vcenter server from my Enterprise Manager. Thank you

One option to have encrypted date in the capacity tier is to enable capacity tier encryption.Encryption for Capacity Tier - User Guide for VMware vSphere (veeam.com)Question is: who exactly does this encryption?I always assumed the gateway server is used for offloading. But helpcenter isn’t specific here. Elsewhere helpcenter states that the encryption will be done “at source” - which in that case would be the repo extent server of the performance tier.Who can provide evidence here? Thanks,Michael

i I am a noob trying to learn this software for now just to make some very basic backups of my C Drive on my home computer. I installed the software, created a new repository on a local drive Started a new job : volume type Under computers I clicked add and added hostname of my computer as an individual computer - using my local windows user name and password for credentials (this user is the admin on my local machine) Set Up backups to a local disk on my computer When it attempts to run I get "Unable to process [computername] - host rescan is required When it tried to scan I get:Failed Unable to install backup agent: failed to connect to [computer name] Error: Access is denied. Failed to connect to share '\\[ipredacted]\ADMIN$'.I saw that in windows run I am able to open that '\\[ipredacted]\ADMIN$'. - and the folder pops up.I tried disabling my firewall momentarily to see if it was a port issue.I double checked the windows credentials I entered.Nothing seems to work - can s

I am working on a backup and recovery design for a customer who have an Active-Active data centers and VMs are replicated both ways. For e.g. Few VMs replicated from DC1 --> DC2 and some from DC2 → DC1.Customer has a physical server in each DC for backup storage. My initial design was to deploy the Backup server and backup repo to be installed on the same physical host in each DC. Have Backup and CDP proxies configured as VMs on the VMware clusters to replicate and backup VMs. However, while discussing the same with the Veeam services architect, his recommendation was to deploy only a single Veeam backup server and have a backup repo in each DC. Replicate the Veeam backup server to DC2. In case DC1 is lost, recover the Backup server VM on Dc2 and then restore or recover other VMs. What are your suggestions? Which option is better? Is there another option? Thanks,Sudhir

Hi,Anybody aware of a migration path to shift from a DataDomain without immutability to Immutable MTrees on the same box ? I guess the only way is to create a new repo and chain… and make some good calculations on free space to keep it in the same box.

This morning we received an alert that our Kasten backups were failing on our production Rancher RKE2 cluster (version v1.30.2+rke2r1). In particular, when attempting to snapshot application components and configuration, we encountered the error “Could not encrypt data”.We are using K10 version 7.0.4 which was updated automatically a few days ago via GitOps with Flux v2, though the error only started occurring this morning.By inspecting the pods in the kasten-io namespace, we noticed that the crypto-svc pod is stuck in CrashLoopBackOff - all other pods are running normally:NAME                          READY   STATUS             RESTARTS       AGEcrypto-svc-6f78dcf599-xhrgp   3/4     CrashLoopBackOff   6 (118s ago)   7m57sDescribing the pod revealed that the failed container is bloblifecyclemanager-svc.8m53s       Normal    Pulling            pod/crypto-svc-6f78dcf599-xhrgp    Pulling image "gcr.io/kasten-images/bloblifecyclemanager:7.0.4"9m15s       Normal    Pulled             pod/cr

Hello All,I have a VM on standalone Hyper-v 2019 with a backup checkpoint that I can not delete. The checkpoint was created by veeam during backup. There is no opting in the GUI to manually delete the checkpoint.I ran the backup again and it was succesfull however it did not delete the checkpoint. What can I do? the checkpoint is growing quite rapidlly.Version: Veeam Backup 10a Build: 10.0.1.4854 P20201202

I need to exclude an AIX job from a backup copy.Recently, we have upgraded to version 12.1The old backup copy has excluded the aix job, but on new backup copy job created we cannot exclude it.In the exclusions list we can see all job/objects from repository but aix job.Aix job is unmanaged and versión 4.1 Any idea to fix that? Thanks in advanced!!

There is one VM in our prod environment that I am unable to backup due to unable to quiesce the VM. I looked at the event log of the machine and found out Event ID 157 and Event ID 15 started occurring same time the backup started failing. Looks like there are phantom disks seen by the OS. Device Manager shows 2 drives and this is correct. I have storage migrated the VM but the error keeps on occurring meaning it is with the VM itself. System scan (sfc) not showing any error.  What are your thoughts on this?

Hello Veeam Community, I am very new to Veeam. I am encountering a problem. Please help and guide. I cannot proceed or find a solution that works for me.I am getting an error below in VBR SOBR archive job while deploying the Archive appliance in Azure.:-Failed to deploy archive appliance: The installation of SDK files failed after five attempt I have 500TB data that I would like to move from the capacity tier to the archive tier. Everything is created in Azure automatically by VBR. Every time the archive job runs I am presented with the above error. The four appliances are created in Azure 3 appliance are deleted and one is running. One is appliance is not enough to move large amount of data from capacity to archive tier in my situation.

Hi all, a customer with a physical node with SLES for SAP needs to migrate the system to new hardware.Unfortunately I don't have much experience on SAP, and not much information on OS and software versions at the moment either. The OS is installed on local disks of the node, while the db data resides on external storage (SAN).Is it suggested to use VAL to migrate via volume restore? What are the caveats and/or points to watch out for?Can application consistency be achieved?ThanksMarco S.
