Hi all, a customer with a physical node with SLES for SAP needs to migrate the system to new hardware.
Unfortunately I don't have much experience on SAP, and not much information on OS and software versions at the moment either.
The OS is installed on local disks of the node, while the db data resides on external storage (SAN).
Is it suggested to use VAL to migrate via volume restore?
What are the caveats and/or points to watch out for?
Can application consistency be achieved?
Thanks
Marco S.

Hi @marco_s -
Yeah...I’ve not any experience with SLES or SAP either. According to the Linux Guide, SLES is supported if you go the VAL route:
VAL SAP Support
And, yes, you can have app consistency with VAL, as long as the DB is one supported by Veeam → Oracle, MYSQL, or PSQL. Does the customer use any of those DBs?
I guess if you’re able to do so, you could create a VM with the SLES OS and try and perform a test migration to it. Another option would be to ping PMs in the Forums to see if anyone there has any experience with this type of migration.
