Enable backup file encryption

I have a quick question regarding enabling backup file encryption. I would like to start using this option, but not clear on how it is being used once it is enabled.It appears that Veeam B&R continues to use the selected encryption password (in my case loss protection is disabled) during backups and restores.If someone were to gain access to the NAS that I am backing up to and attempted to restore a VM, they would need to have the password to restore the VM or guest files correct?If I do a test file level restore from an encrypted VM, I am not prompted to enter a password during the restore process.Thank you in advanceDon

Undestanding Backup Copy Jobs

Hi to all,I try to understand the behavior of my lab jobs.I have a backup jobs (of one VM) with the following settings:Scheduled: every days at 22:00Retention: 7 daysSynthetic Full: SaturdayGFS: 12M, 5YRepository: Hardened for 7 daysenabled a secondary copy to backup copy job with following settings:Scheduled: every days at 08:00Retention: 7 daysGFS: 12M, 5YRepository: Deduplicate storageOn backup jobs all work fine but on backup copy jobs appears only the first full (example of today) and then all incremental until the end of June and at 30 June has copied (created) a full backup (MY) not deleting any of the previous backups.Restore point Repository

Free Veeam products for backing up single physical server

I used to be able to use the Veeam Agent software to back up a single physical Server 2019 server but when I went to the Veeam website last week it looks like the Veeam Agent software is no longer able to be used to back up physical servers for free. Is there still a version of the Veeam Agent software or another Veeam product that I can be used to back up a single physical Server 2019 server for free? I need to use a free solution until my organization is able to purchase another Veeam license.

Failed to transfer operation summary to backup server: Failed to delete file

Hi All,with latest version of Veeam B&R, i have a Backup Jobs (that make copy on a remote Mac Folder via SSH that ends with this warning: 23/06/2022 04:33:51 :: Failed to transfer operation summary to backup server: Failed to delete file 'C:\ProgramData\Veeam\Backup\vMac_Files\__IP_USERNAME\Report\__IP_USERNAME_2022-6-23T4331.csv'   If i go to that folder i’m able to delete the file.Any suggest?Thanks

TLS vesrion is not permitted

Hey guys, I have faced this error in customer environment where backup SOBR offload to cloud failed because it shows the error “ TLS version is not permitted on this storage account”, the TLS version is 1.2. I referred some articles and they suggests to add a registry value. One article shows the following registry value details:HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Veeam\Veeam Backup and Replication\Dword: AzureConcurrentTaskLimitvalue: 1 will this registry value work?

Veeam Backup V11 Problem with server with SQL transaction log

Hi everyone, I have problem with one of my servers who have MSQL and when the backup is finished i have this warning message “ Unable to truncate Microsoft SQL Server transaction logs. Details: Failed to process 'TruncateSQLLog' command. Failed to truncate SQL server transaction logs for instances: . See guest helper log.” I have search in official support and only find that the veeam account for backup must be MSQL administrator on that database, and to be local admin on that machine. I have make him database admin, but still i have this warning, and the hdd on that machine will be full soon. We have V11 Enterprise with support and so on, but because we are Public Enterprise we have bought this product from one Company in our Town. Can somebody give me some solution instruction step by step ?

Simultaneously backup to Tape and Veeam Plugin backup to Veeam server

Hi Veeam,Currently one of our customer using RMAN to backup there oracle database to the tape. They want to use Veeam RMAN plugin backup to the Veeam repository but the problem is they don’t want to completely stop the backup to tape.They are requesting there is any possible way to simultaneously backup their  Oracle database  to tape and also to RMAN plugin backup.They are having huge concern on RMAN plugin configuration. Because below RMAN configuration parameters will get updated automatically after plugin installation .CONFIGURE DATAFILE BACKUP COPIES FOR DEVICE TYPE SBT_TAPE TO 1; # defaultCONFIGURE ARCHIVELOG BACKUP COPIES FOR DEVICE TYPE SBT_TAPE TO 1; # defaultCONFIGURE CHANNEL DEVICE TYPE 'SBT_TAPE' PARMS 'ENV=(OB_DEVICE=tape1)';which will lead them interupt in current Tape backup. Regards,Rithesh Kanchan

Veeam Service Provider Console v6 event logs collection

Hello Everyone,I am using the Veeam Service Provider Console v6 product. Because of a security audit, I must collect all activity logs from the VSPC portal. Now the VSPC portal only can show Event logs in the web UI portal and VSPC does not support pushing event logs to a log system like ELK or vRealize Log Insight. Oracle Rman query

Hey Guys, I have a scenario.So my customer environment was taking oracle backups to tape without using Veeam. Now they want to initiate RMAN backup using Veeam. After installing plug-in the configuration settings gets updated in oracle but they also want existing backup jobs to the tape to continue after veeam plug-in install. Is there a solution to this?

Working with Disaster Recovery, Stress and Burnout, How do you deal with it?

Hi Folks, While not a technical subject, nevertheless since we are working with Veeam and that implies Disaster Recovery I am pretty certain many of you have been in the high pressure trenches of Severity One situations.Unless you have nerves of steel inevitably this will start to take a toll on your health and well being. People here are veterans of this profession so you have obviously found ways to survive and handle this. I thought it would be good to share what we all do to keep our sanity. Mind you I have been told I was never sane to begin with so you can’t lose what you don’t have but . For me humor is the saving grace.Laughing is like a reset button and it wipes the slate clean of all the built up pressure and anxieties and not just with IT related issues. In every situation I try to find a funny side of things. For example two weeks ago when I went to have my eyes checked again. I knew that they were going to tell me that I needed new glasses. Sure enough they did and started

Fun Friday: Which Common Sysadmin Tool have you seen do the Most Damage?

Happy Friday all! Today, lets talk tools, the right tool in the wrong hands can be catastrophic. What tool have you seen so the most damage to an environment? Whether it’s a built in tool/feature or 3rd party, I wanna hear! For me, it’s Remote PowerShell. I witnessed this being used by a malicious script to deploy ransomware to every device in the domain and the rest of the network. The script was harvesting credentials from users working on the infected endpoint and the moment a domain admin signed in, BANG, remote PowerShell to all!

Fun Friday: Share Your Backup Pet Peeves

Happy Friday everyone! Today, lets talk pet peeves. If you’re not familiar with the term, it means something of frequent/continual annoyance to someone. Mine is when backup repositories are used for ANYTHING other than backups/data restoration. I see it a lot with people’s personal backups and in smaller businesses. It’s often a scenario such as: I find a file share on a backup repository, and I ask, what’s that doing there? Then I’ll be told that there were some files that were far too big to sit on their expensive storage such as marketing media shares full of videos and photos. I was always taught to assume positive intent so I’ll ask something like “oh okay, have they copied what they need so it can be deleted?” More often than not I’ll be told, nope they need the data still as XYZ department needs it. I’ll then ask the key question, “okay, where’s be being backed up to? And what frequency?” At this point I always get the same response “we have nowhere big enough to back this up to

Backup for failover cluster

Hey guys, in this link it says veeam cannot backup failover cluster with CSV and CSV will be excluded if you are backing up that cluster. https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backup/agents/cluster_support.html?ver=110Is there recommended way to backup those volumes? Can volume or file level backup solve this?

New feature for restores

We currently have a situation where we need to copy backed up files on a different subnet from the Veeam server.The backup files are on the proxy server in a different subnet and I need to copy them to a different server on the same subnet.  Veeam is across a VPN so copying 1 TB of files from Veeam across the VPN would take too long.When I mount the files to restore it would be great if they were available in the VeeamFLR folder on the proxy server.   Then I could copy them directly on the same subnet.  Right now the files to restore are only available on the Veeam server.As a workaround I’m going to install Veeam on the Proxy server so I can access the backed up files without using the VPN.

veeam recovery media for failover cluster

Hey guys,A customer of mine has asked whether I could create recovery media for failover cluster but in this linkhttps://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backup/agents/image_create_before.html?ver=110 tells that I cannot create a recovery media and I should enable creation of a Veeam Recovery Media for such clusters with a registry value. Has anyone faced this situation and enabled recovery media with registry value.
