We have Veeam Backup and Rep.  We are currently backing up vSphere VMs and AWS EC2 instances (using Veeam agents).We want to start backing up the AWS EC2 instances without the Veeam agents.  In the deployment guides, it looks like you have to deploy an EC2 instance called “Veeam backup appliance.”We have a site-to-site VPN between our on-prem and AWS tenant.Is there any reason the appliance couldn’t be in vSphere?  Does its existence in AWS allow it some additional access that it can’t get while in vSphere?

Trying to install Veeam 12.1.2.172… from a downloaded ISO.   Setup goes to the 2nd screen, to tell me that it needs to be run by an account with Local Admin privs. Same result on 3 machines - 1 physical and 2 VMs.  Two standalones and 1 Domain connected. OS: Windows Server 2025.26227   Any ideas?

I have a different error- Failed to index guest file system. Failed to zip folder 'c:\users\.....Appdata\Local\Temp\GuestIndexData.zip. I am seeing the below warning on backup jobs. We have VEM installed so cannot disable Guest indexing. Backup will complete successfully with this warnings. Using Domain admin account for Guest processing and indexing. Warning :Failed to index guest file system. Can we use Azure Blob Cold Tier (not cool) for VBO repository?

Had a system go down it is backed up with Veeam however I need to ensure that the last backup is not deleted automatically. I inherited this system recently and have not had time to explore it. I am waiting on my support purchase to go through to get assistance but this is critical that I don’t loose this back up file. I found the option to export it and did that. But how to I tell Veeam not to delete it? This seems like it should be a simple Right click mark as don’t delete. Am I missing something. Any help appreciated. 

I am trying to figure out how to use Veeam Community edition from the DOS commandline. The application mentioned in https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/agentforlinux/userguide/backup_job_start_cmd.html?ver=60, so veeamconfig job start --name <job_name>, is however absent on my system.Is this a Community edition limitation?

I am trying to understand how to deploy Veeam Backup and Replication in 2 DC’s hosting with VMware Virtual Infra in an active-active environment. Scenario VMs being replicated from DC1 → DC2 and DC2 → DC1 both requiring near-zero and CDP. Number of replicated VMs in each DC is between 20-30 and data size is 6-10TB with average change rate.My thoughts:Deploy a VBR + Backup repo instance in each DC. Deploy backup proxy each in DC1 and DC2. I need to deploy a Veeam Repo server, windows based using 20TB HDD (12 X 20TB, RAID6). Would there be a huge impact on backup windows when using this configuration? Are there any limitations or compatibility matrix on what type of disk size or type can be used for a repo server?

Is anybody using Cortex XDR along with Veeam? It should be fairly easy to extend the Antivirus definition file, but I can’t find any information about how (or even if) Cortex can be called to scan a specific file.

Hi all…. greetings...I am thinking about immutable repo will affect repo sizing or not…In general cases, immutable for 14d or 30d, which is just a part of the retention policy (say 30D 4W 3M 3Y), storage size is just the same no matter when the immutable is on or offAlso, in real sizing task, we usually reserve spaces for annual growthSome occupation on storage spaces will be absorbed by the buffer... What about in extreme scenario, large backup sources and no. of VMs, large delta change, and long immutable period say 3years. Will the sizing different between immutable on and off?

been doing backups of our vcenter vms to disk for some time now.  just tried out the application aware processing and several VMs reported erros like “cannot find linux guest credentials” or “unbale to perform guest file system indexing”.am I right to think this means the VM was not backup up to disk, and I need to turn off applicaiton aware processing until I have correct credentials on those VMs?

Hi, I have a Windows 2022 Server with Hyper-V installed and running several Windows VM’s.  I think under B&R, there are two types of backups I can do for these Windows VM’s.  I can install Agent on them and treat them as standalone machines or back them up under Hyper-V.   Would anyone know the pros and cons of each method?  And is there a recommended method?thank you! 

Hello, I would like to have your feedback about how to manage S3 backup.I mean, on the service provider S3 Créate access key with correct privilegeThen I need to create a bucket. What name do you choose ? Is there use case where several buckets are needed for end customer ?And for the folder, same question.I mean, it’s more about governance and to be sure to understand correctly the pro and con.Do I need 1 bucket / job ? Do I need 1 bucket for all backup job and an other for backup copy ?Do I need 1 bucket for all jobs type ?Then, for the folder, 1 job per folder ? 1 job per job type ? 1 folder for all ?  I’m totally new to the object storage and would like to understand what are the best practice for this :) Thanks for your answer :)  

Hello, I would like some advice about tape management and what do you use as “tape name on label” ? I’m using only GFS media pool and export them offline as soon as they are used with different retention (14days for daily, 4 week for weekly, 12month for monthly and 2 years for yearly). Thanks for your answer.

Hi,I currently have 2 Veeam servers, one is on-prem and one is an Azure VM. I’m trying to link Veeam to my Azure subscription so it can see storage which contains my backups. I have created an enterprise application in azure for this. In VB&R I then need to created an Azure compute account to link Veeam to Azure. For my on-prem server this is possible and I am successfully able to connect Veeam to Azure by adding the credentials. I did originally have issues, where by I was using a systems proxy - which would fail the connection, however if I added the proxy server in Edge, this would then work.Next I logged onto my Azure VM with VRO installed and went to follow the same process. I have added the proxy in both “netsh winhttp” system proxy as well as Edge. I cannot get the application to work. When I run wireshark, it looks like the Azure VM is bypassing any sort of proxy setting and trying to get directly to Azure.My question is, has anyone had

Hello,We are planning to upgrade veeam from V11.0.x to 12.1.x, but on current installation (V11) we have configured Linux repository with immutable settings. But in V12 we see that there is Linux - (no immutable settings) and Linux as Hardened Repository i(or something like that with immutable settings) . Question, do we lose immutable settings after migration and there will be need to create new repo with immutable settings ?? Thanks,

Actually, the IBM tape library is physically connected to Veeam backup server in our environment, but when i configure tape library through Veeam server console, what i enter the server details means IP or hostname.because Veeam backup server and tape library IP is different, so what should be enter for tape library configuration.i did the backup server IP then drive is not reflected in Veeam console, but i checked computer management the tape drive is available on device manager. what is the issue, please suggest.
