Renaming folder on repositary

New job and one of my tasks is to cleanup VEEAM. Trying to make sure the backup settings are correct and consistent. I’m also renaming the jobs in a logical and consistent manner. First couple of renamed jobs ran last night. I was surprised that a) they did not take a new full and b) they did not create a new folder. I’m using Reverse Incremental. Can I safely rename the folders to reflect the name of the jobs?Will the vbk and vbm ever rename to the name of the job? I assume I can’t rename those manually.

Fun Friday: What are you most proud of this year?

As we celebrate the completion of another rotation around the sun, it’s often a time of reflection.So I ask you, you wonderful bunch, in amongst all of your achievements this year, what are you most proud of? This could be an achievement, certification, personal life goal, bucket list item completed etc. It hasn’t got to be one single thing, in amongst so much negativity in the world, it’s great to share something positive, so ramble on as long as you need to! For me I achieved something from my bucket list this year, I flew a plane And professionally, I got to speak alongside Rick Vanover at VeeamON this year, which still blows my mind! And I got some of my blog posts published on Veeam’s official blog! All made possible by my acceptance into the #Veeamazing Veeam Legend program. I had a particularly tough year in some elements, but I also got to accomplish so much. And to whoever reads this, I wish you all a fantastic end of year and 2022

FYI Veeam Corporate News Today

You may have seen some corporate news today, Veeam has announced that Anand Eswaran will become CEO. Reverse incremental restore

I get the difference between RI and FI. The question is, if I’m using RI, can I do a full restore at a point in time in the past? As in, I walk in this morning and all my servers have been crypto. Obviously, the last backup (full) is useless. Can I ask for a full restore or instant recovery as of 2 days ago?

Features of Veeam Backup & Replication may not function when the Veeam Backup Service is run as a user that is not assigned the "Veeam Backup Administrator" role

It looks like you need to be careful when using the Log On as for the Veeam services if the account being used is not in the Veeam Backup Administrator group within Veeam.  The answer is to add the account to that group to fix the issue.  See the KB.KB4252: Features of Veeam Backup & Replication may not function when the Veeam Backup Service is run as a user that is not assigned the "Veeam Backup Administrator" role

CDP filters installation fails with "Storage providers offline"

Not sure if anyone is using CDP yet but you can run in to an issue with Veeam stating that the storage providers are offline.  You can see how to obtain the fix from VMware in the following KB.KB4242: CDP filters installation fails with "Storage providers offline" (veeam.com)This all relates to the SPS certificate in VMware.

Can't install Veeam Agent for Windows 5.0.1 on Windows 11

I know there is a related topic with the same problem but that one is for version 5.0.0 There is a known problem with Windows 11 and the installation of Microsoft SQL Server where the engine will not install unless it is installed on a different drive or VHD.I understand Veeam Agent for Windows uses SQL Server technology which is probably why it fails to install.Question 1: Is Veeam working on a solution independent of Microsoft?Question 2: I installed SQL Server 2019 Express with support for local DB but Veeam Agent for Windows still fails. Is there any way to have Veeam use the existing (operational) engine instead of attempting to install its own SQL engine? I read somewhere that they are using SQL 2012 but I haven’t tried preinstalling that version.Question 3: Is there any way to trick Veeam into installing on a different drive?I use Veeam at work and have been pretty happy with this product for home use. I already temporarily installed another backup solution but would love to go

Managed Service Provider - Alternate monitoring solutions?

I work for an MSP and we rent Veeam licenses to our clients. We can monitor backups through the Veeam Service Provider Console but their are some features that are lacking using this. We are looking for a more robust monitoring to make certain that our clients backups are functioning. One specific thing that the VSPC lacks is reporting on issues with offloading to a capacity tier. Tech support verified this and put in a suggestion for this feature. We want something that has consolidated reporting. We look at the VSCP alerts twice per day currently.Does anyone know of any product that we can use to get better reporting on errors / alerts?

How do you monitor Hardened Repository hardware?

When it comes to Veeam Hardened Repository Server, we hopefully talk about a dedicated hardware server. Because of the high secure implementation of this feature it makes perfect sense to disable any additional attack surface. So it is highly recommended to disable platforms like HPE ilO and Dell iDRAC.On the other side, it is essential to monitor this piece of hardware. IMHO it is important not to open any incoming network ports for monitoring. Means, monitoring (agent, script, deamon, ...) should open a port from within the host to in external instance like mail-server, SNMP-host, syslog-server, … and closes it afterwards. Otherwise a service - most probably with root-permissions - is running and open for external access.So how did you implement hardware monitoring?

Backup Verification Agent Backups

Hi,I need to find a way for backup verification test for agent backup systems. These are physical machines. (sql, exchange, oracle). VMs are working fine. I could do manually or script based instant recovery to vmware. But those tests would be in production an not seperated in a virtual lab. Any ideas? Is this feature on a roadmap?Any news for supporting NSX-T nics in VLAB? Thx and GreetingsHartmut

Hello, I would like to know how do you manage your job and associated TAG when you build Veeam for customer ? I would like to use 1 job for 200 VM and within these 200 VM I have some with oracle, some with Exchange, some with SQL, …How would you do for it ? I think about different categoriies (rpo / application type / log processing)rpo : 24/48/…application type : exchange, sql, oracle,…log processing : copy , truncate, truncate 15m, truncate 30m,…And use tag combination on my job with all the possibilities :24 + exchange + truncate24 + sql + truncate 15m24 + oracle + truncate 30m24 + oracle + truncate 15m What do you think about it ?Is it better to have 1 job for SQL ? 1 for Oracle ? I would like to know how do you do for big customer :) I have some with 200/300/500VMs and I would like to avoid to manually specify each VM on AAIP and the process associated

I’ve used Veeam Backup & Replication V10 solutino; have File-level-backup jobs, Synthetic full backup, local repo, and use Optimal Data Compression.My issue is, High and Extreme Data Compression does not compress The Backup.my backups took massive sotrage, why is the compression not working?

Exclude USB attached drive from Veeam backup

I have an odd backup setup that I am trying to navigate. We have a VM (VMware) that is being backed up that has a volume listed in the OS as G: drive. This is actually a USB drive attached to the host server and is being fed into VMware via the xHCI USB driver. Veeam is backing up this volume, but is not listing it in the list of backed up drives if I try and create an exclusion. Is there another area to look or another way to exclude just this G: drive from the backup?

WAN accelerator cache

Hey guys, I watched this video on WAN accelerator and the instructor has told to not specify C drive as the cache location, but in helpcenter documents they have not specified anything like that. Is not setting cache location on C drive a good recommendation? Please refer the video and for more details of what I described jump to 6:27 of the video

What would you want in a Hardened Repository Workshop Video?

I want to do an end-to-end workshop video and guide on how to configure and set up the Veeam Hardened repository. Not everyone has the comfort in Linux to do this on their own or at least without help. What kind of things would you want covered?Some scope:I’m going to start with a server on the table, go from racking and stacking to data recovery Will focus on a physical server with a hardware management interface Will cover mostly the Linux steps, the B&R part is easy!Let me know what you would covered in here!

New to Veeam - jobs fail with no error code

Hi - just testing with community edition. I ran a test backup to C:\backup but I did not have enough space. I’ve added a new repository which is a Synology NAS. I can see a vbm file is created for 2 of my linux hosts, but thats it. Immediately the backup fails. All I get is “finished with error”. Is there a log somewhere thats a tad more verbose than this?
