I have found pervious items saying that (with Veeam) I should be able to backup a centos machine from vmware, and do an ‘instant recovery’ to hyper V.   I have tried a few times, and i must be missing something.First….Veeam 12 Backup and Replication Community EditionWith my testing, I have backed up a couple of Windows SQL machines and Centos machines (not many due to Community Edition)So as part of my last test, I am trying To backup from esxi and restore to Hyper-v.    The centos version is 7, and has 2 hard drives.Backs up just fine….I try teh instant restore to Hyper-v…..   at first it works great.  With the counsol on hyper v, I can log into the machine, and all looks good…...but when the restore finishes, i get either garbage on teh display, or it boots into emergency mode and I can’ do anything other than power cycle it.    Any idea?

When scanning for Malware Detection with Yara rules, can you see which files have Malware in which locations with Yara Rules? When I do a direct Malware scan, if there is malware, it shows the machine under the malware tab but does not give details. Hi Guys, here is a good one.We have one job, protecting VMs in 2 different VMWare Virtual Centres. Each VC has its own proxies.VC1 is Netapp NFS datastores and we use Auto selection of transport mode (Direct Storage)VC2 is Dell HCI with iscsi datastores so we can only use Hot Add.The issue is that Veeam doesn’t appear intelligent enough to pick the right proxy for the VM. Its choosing an HCI proxy to protect a 3 tier VM and hence fails to NBD mode.How does the Veeam Proxy selection work ? Surely it can work out the basics and choose a Proxy in the same VC/host as the target VM, and on the same or similar network and not a completely different one.The issue is that if it can’t, we will need to split VMs into different jobs which is far from ideal.ThanksPhil

Hi AllI am having difficulty doing a full VM restore.  I get the below error.  I do have a veeam ticket open but no results so far.  I think this is a connection issue.  The address of 192.168.12.211 is my vCentre server.Im using Veeam essentials 12 and vCentre 8.0I can restore individual files, but not the entire VM.Any ideas?  Im really stuck.Thanks28/08/2024 10:57:10 Error    Restore job failed Error: Cannot get service content.                             Soap fault. One of my VM is showing  FIB summary.txt issue in backup copy job. I would like to run Active full backup on only this problem VM . But this backup copy job has 20 VMs which i don’t want to run full backup as it will cause issue in wasabi bucket. Copy job goes to wasabi bucket. I know individual full backup can initiated in Backup job, but it is not showing BCJ . Please advise.Ver 12.1.2

How large may a partition be on an iSCSI-connected Alletra4000 storage that is to be backed up using Veeam Storage integration?

I have a strange issue and have been trying to solve it for a few days now.  Fresh install of Veeam Backup 12 for the purpose of migrating a few dev/test VMs from one ESXi server to another.  The install went proper, I created a Ubuntu 24 server on each ESXi server and installed the backup proxy components via the GUI in VBR which registered them there.  Since this is more of a migration project, there isn’t a need for a separate backup repository.  When creating a quick migration job, everything goes well until the backup proxy selection.  The only Backup Proxy that is available is the VBR server and not the actual proxy servers themselves.  Since the migration job is having to use the VBR server as the proxy, the performance is horrid.  I have performed:-repair on VBR 12-reconfigured the proxy servers from VBR GUI (no errors)-proxy servers are on same VLAN as VBR server so no firewall challenges Any thoughts on what I have missed?  Thank you all

Hello, well, the fun never ends.I moved a VM named ‘user01-Virtual-Machine agent_vserver03’ from one folder to another folder on the same drive letter V:The vm itself runs fine, no issues.Now, the backup fails.I tried to search about the error and for 'HvGetVolumesByPaths', but foud nothing at all.Error: Failed to call RPC function 'HvGetVolumesByPaths': The file or directory is not a reparse point. Failed to retrieve reparse point data. I re-scaned the hyper-v server, ‘VSERVER03’ but nothing changed.Note: this is a homelab, i am willing to delete and re-do whatever.But, no idea what to try next. Maybe I should the following, but hoping there is a less drastic solution?export vm delete vm import vm in VBR, re-scan the standalone hyperv server re-create a backup job and backup copy job

Hello,A while ago I set up a immutable repository on a Ubuntu host 24.04. For that I created a separate partition with separate user login for client A.All worked fine over months. Yesterday on the same server I created a new partition with a new user login for client B. I could add the repository to VBR 12.0 on the client side. Today I see that for client B VBR cannot find the repository. Host discovery fails. “an unknown error occured while processing the certificate” I’m not sure what happened, but it has certainly something to do with adding a new repository for client B. First, is it generally possible to have several clients on the same Ubuntu server with separate partition and user logins? How can I fix it for client A without breaking for Client B? Thanks,Edy  

Anyone had experience of using Veritas 5250/5x50 appliances with Veeam? I believe the appliances can support SMB/NFS so as long as that is available then yes….if anyone has any thoughts or experiences please let me know.

I haven’t found an answer to this, so asking here.I was asked if we can change the retention on an existing backup to keep it longer than the original retention time.For example, we are running forward incrementals daily with a synthetic full every Saturday. The retention is set to 30 days. We are using Veeam 12.1 with immutable Linux repository.If someone comes to me and asks for us to keep last Wednesday’s backup for 90 days due to an ongoing project they have, can I retroactively change the retention on that backup to 90 days? (I understand that the prior Saturday-Wednesday files would/should also be retained to keep the chain intact).Thanks.

Hi guys,First, I’m not sure if I should be posting here or forums.veeam.com?  Either way, here’s my setup: Hyper-V host domain-joined to customer infrastructure, running Windows Server 2022, patched with July 2024 cumulative patches.  Security software includes S1, Threatlocker, and Huntress.  Threatlocker is in “learning” mode and is not blocking anything. Backup server is also running Windows Server 2022 patched with the latest July 2024 cumulative update.  Security software includes SentinelOne and Duo authentication to enable MFA for local user logins. Backup box is *not* domain joined at all.I’ve been told this is a UAC issue, but using a domain user bypasses this problem. I feel like I’m taking crazy pills. No matter what I do, I can’t get the backup server to authenticate with the Hyper-V host using a domain account.  I can get it to authenticate, browse \\hypervip\ADMIN$ share, and connect with Veeam with the built-in, named Administrator account and I can get it to authenticat

So I am on Veeam community edition 11.01.1261 and decided to look into immutable backups. I created a Ubtunu 22.04.2 VM and followed the guide. I added the repo to Veeam. When I do a backup and check on the Linux system I am not seeing the immutable tag set, what am I missing? I’m looking in the data directory of the backupset. The backup is there, looks fine, it is not immutable.  lsattr---------------------- ./0000.vblob The Linux FS is XFS, and I set the checkbox to say it should be immutable for 7 days. 

Host backup is a day backup, which runs a tape backup after the backup is completed; But today I found out that all the backup days of the tape were for the backup data on July 31st, but it prompted that the backup data did not exist. I don't know why the data on July 31st was backed up. I saw that the backup tape number on July 31st in the tape backup record is empty
