Multi cloud backup

Hi guys One of our customer migrated all his workloads to Azure. For backup compliance he defined all workloads have to be backed up daily to AWS S3 immutable object store. So we have Veeam Backup for Azure for IaaS and NAS Backup for Azure File Share. Now my struggle is real. When I backup the file share with NAS Backup I’m not able to write the data to AWS on daily base, only “Keep previous file version” works. I used a scale-out backup repository with capacity tier the s3 immutable store and the setting “Copy backups to object store as soon as they are created” and “Move backups to object storage as they age out the operational restore window” but nothing happened. Also the Azure IaaS Backup Copy job does not work as expected. As backup repository I need to specify a scale-out repo because directly to object store is not possible. With same scale-out repo as above the local stored elements will not be deleted. Does anyone have any experience and/or suggestions? Kind regards Daniel

Veeam Backup for Office 365: Update 5b released

Update 5b for Veeam Backup for Office 365 was released yesterday, which I’ve discovered from @AnthonySpiteri’s blog: https://anthonyspiteri.net/patch-backup-microsoft-office-365-v11/ https://www.veeam.com/kb4092 Besides the preparation for the upcoming v11 VBR release I would like to highlight this resolved issue: Under certain conditions retention policy mistakenly cleans actual Exchange backup data from Jet-based repositories set with snapshot-based retention of less than 2 years. This issue applies to Veeam Backup for Microsoft Office versions 3.0 – 4c. I’m not sure at what conditions this could happen but it sounds rather serious.

Migrate VM from hyper-V to VMware using VEEAM 10 Instant recovery

The VMware Converter has failed to convert correctly the virtual disk.- Convert task success.- hd1 size error (vShepere vCenter : 0 / no disk detected (vSphere ESX, General View) / hd1 8 GB (Edit Settings ESX). NB : VMDK= 33 GB, Thick provisionning. As said by “https://hyper-converged.com/2020/03/06/migrate-vm-from-hyper-v-to-vmware-with-veeam-v10/” Veeam 10 can migrate a VM from Hyper-V to VM-ware. Does anyone had this issue and had fixed it with “Instant VM Recovery” of VEEAM 10 ?Is a VEEAM Licence for VMware and for Hyper-V needed ?

SOBR placement policy not adhered to - solution included

This issue I’ve seen with larger SOBRs having many ReFS extents. Having a backup-copy job (pruning) with GFS there were sudden unintended switches of backup chains to other extents. Thus loosing all space efficiency for the GFS points. We used scripts here to detect chains spanning more than a single extent. It turned out to be a bug solved in V10 paired with a very conservative process in VBR to detect extents near space exhaustion. There is some estimation here due not being able to estimate the space savings due to block recloning. This could be tweaked with two regkeys: Pfad: HKLM\Software\Veeam\Veeam Backup and Replication Name: SOBRSyntheticFullCompressRate Value: 35, DWORD Description: override the estimated space VM would take on SOBR in a full backup. % of previous full backup size. Name: SobrForceExtentSpaceUpdate Value: 1, DWORD Description: enables advanced SOBR extents free space update logic. With this set to 1 (enabled) service updates cached extent free space every time

Feature request - force retention

I work pretty heavily with backups in my current role, and we use your product and another product with some of our clients. The other product has a feature that is incredibly helpful and I think would be an amazing feature to add to Veeam. How feasible would it be to add a “Force Retention” feature? I really believe we need this for situations when we run into low disk space. In Veeam’s current state, if I run into an issue where I need to reclaim disk space, I am forced to break my backup chain and delete data. If I could lower retention on my backup and then force retention, that would effectively eliminate the need for me to have to lose data and break a backup chain. For example: if I am in a situation where I am getting failures due to low disk space, and I have retention on said backup job set to 30 days, if I could cut retention down to, say, 20 days, and force retention, I could maintain my current backup chain and then address the disk space issue accordingly (adding more dis

How to make backup in 2 servers

Hello, I have a question.I have a scenario with a server, it has Veeam Backup Community installed and makes copies locally.I would like to add an external copy on a server that is now deprecated, and I would like to use for copies.I have tried to get Veeam Backup Agent for Windows to be recognized on both servers, but it is only recognized by one, the one doing the installation.Is it possible to make copies of the same server from two Veeam Backup servers?Thank you all.

I’ve been challenged to only backup data files with a specific prefix to all filenames.

Hello friends, Can Veeam perform a file level backup by specific file name prefix? If a file starts with dept1 across all servers, then Backup only those files to repository X. If a file starts with dept2 across all servers, then Backup only those files to repository Y. Our retention policy require us to keep specific files for a short period of time while other files for a longer period of time. There are several file servers with TBs of data to backup this way. Is this even possible? Any feed backup would be appreciated. Thanks, Derek
