I am soliciting feedback from the community and Vanguards in Slack about an issue we are seeing so wanted to get feedback here also.Scenario - we have a customer using v12 with latest patches sending data to one of our DCs with Hitachi HCP Cloud Scale cluster which is very large. They are sending over 20PB of data to us.Object Lock is turned on for some of the buckets and we are seeing billions of gets/puts/list commands which is causing havoc on the cluster worker nodes for HCPCS.The client has configured their jobs with the default block size of 1MB and we were thinking to change that to 4MB, but it would not make sense for 106-byte files. That is the sizing of the files we are seeing the issue on for three buckets of which 2 of them are Windows servers and one is Linux.Any thoughts or has anyone run in to this before? I am working with Veeam and Hitachi together as well but if this rings a bell for anyone your input would be great.Thanks.
I’ve added a shared mailbox to an existing backup job this morning - the mailbox is 7GB in Office 365. The job completed a little while later but in the summary I see “Transferred: 419.6 MB (25466 items)”. Those figures don’t add up, so I’d like to investigate more but I can’t see a way to show the backed up data size for any mailbox. How do I do that?
Hi Folks,(I don’t want to be mean but… sales people can quite seriously perturb me. I don’t know if it is because I assume immediately that they think I am some kind of spaced out idiot, or perhaps that as Don Corleone said “nothing personal just business” i.e. they are mass sending messages using AS (Artificial Stupidity) to change the name etc. I am getting more and more of the following on Linkedin like this today “Hi Goff (so much for AI.. at least it won’t be taking my job in the near future), we noticed that you are a Veeam Professional (what in the name of the Salisbury soccer team is a Veeam Professional?, is that some kind of new certification? have I overdosed on Veeam swag and now been permanently branded a VP (alas not Vice President). Then follows the ingenious sales pitch. “you might be interested in…...” The minute I see “you might be” there is macro in my amygdala that furiously injects the word NOT into the sentence. I have long since gotten used to everyone in North
Hi,I’d like to add Recovery ISO to boot menu so that I don’t have to use USB. Is there a way to do it?
Hello everyone! Recently I installed a new VEM, however I notice that configuration button is missing on the right corner: Am I forgetting something?I presume it is a permission problem, but I cannot remember that.
Hey Community, we have Customers, which have quite a big Physical Infrastructure. It would be really Helpful, if the Protection Groups can not only be having Top Level Folders, but 1 or 2 Subfolders for Organization. Something like:Steel Production Hot (Protection Group) Cold (Protection Group) North Wing 1st-Floor Management (Protection Group) Sales (Protection Group) 2nd-Floor Technic (Protection Group) Engineers (Protection Group) If you are thinking different or have a better solution for my Problem, i would be happy to hear/read what you have to say. GreetingsMathias
VeeamON 2023 has officially concluded! 🎉The biggest event for data recovery experts brought together community members online and in Miami. Veeam Legends and Vanguards were given the opportunity to travel and join Veeam in-person this year for VeeamON. Over 60 Legends/Vanguards from across the world traveled to Miami this year, as well as 6 VeeaMVPs who were also present in Miami. Let’s recap the community involvement at VeeamON this year. Presenters – VeeamON 2023 had the greatest presence of Veeam community members out of all VeeamONs yet. Over 20 Vanguards/Legends/MVPs presented their ideas and expertise to the public this year. Hi folks,Can someone explain to me “the programming dummy” this word mutex? Is it just a log shock and awe term, i.e. someone like Geoff sees something “mutex” in the logs and thinks back to Grade 10 Math and makes a quick retreat? 😁Recently I have seen this word in different logs and wanted to double check with the pros before I press the terrifying search button on google. (I say that because I had a red mark on my face and thought I should google, it basically told me all the horrible things that it could be, until the unsponsored answer way at the bottom had a nothing to worry about explanation)!!

Hello,We are going to set up a backup copy of a vm on a compatible S3 storage, and we will apply a GFS policy.Immutability is activated for 7 days on the object storage. Can you confirm this information below? Do you have a veeam article that explains this? The immutability of GFS backups is not based on the immutability period defined in the Object Storage Repository, but on the retention period of the GFS backup point (e.g. Annual with a retention period of 7 years will have immutability defined for 7 years, so it won't be deletable for 7 years).
Hi,With VAMW, can I exclude some folders/files in Volume backup? Thanks
Hi,I was trying to restore individual files after booted in using the Veeam Recovery Media ISO (from USB stick) but not like in Windows it only supports restoring volumes I guess or am I missing something? Thanks
If a backup copyjob shows one vm in the job in a warning status that says “Waiting for backup resources availability”; did that particular VM actually copy over or did it ultimately fail to copy over?
My final Veeam Update. The aftermath! It did not take long for my swag to disappear. This time Alfred the Legend Cat and the Veeam Teddy bear I found with their new friend Carlos. Carlos is highly trained in DH, “Dealing with Humans” so he always opens his eyes slightly when people approach, just in case, the old trust but check thing :) If you look closely below in his den you will also see the Cloudian Ninja hanging out as well. hello, my problem is the following: I have a backup job scheduled at 5 p.m. and a continuous replication job on one of my virtual machines. So it happens that the 2 tasks are done at the same time. When that happens, my VM no longer works (it seems frozen, it can no longer be reached by ping, nor by remote desktop, the database it contains is no longer reachable either). I am therefore obliged to stop one of the jobs. help me please
If you are using NetApp products with Veeam. A few products are now Veeam Ready for VBR 12. Please see below😀. The NetApp E-Series storage platform has been validated for VBR v12. This platform is used as a high-performance SAN for Veeam repositories used with Windows ReFS or Linux XFS.It is also targeted as a Linux Hardened Repository when Volumes are presented to a Linux platform. The model validated is a hybrid model. Please see details below.NetApp E2800 Hybrid-Flash Arrayhttps://www.veeam.com/sys395 The NetApp StorageGRID platform is an S3 object storage. It supports immutability with Object lock. It is positioned as an enterprise grade on-prem object storage platform. It was previously used as a capacity tier in VBR v11. It can now be used as a direct to object platform. Please use caution when sizing this platform. There are some known limitations in SG 11.6 see NetApp KB Article below.https://kb.netapp.com/hybrid/StorageGRID/Object_Mgmt/Slow_listing_on_StorageGRID_bucket NetApp
Hello everyoneI am trying to restore files in a specific path from the current backup restore point. The number of files to be restored is large and scattered, so it is done using a powershell script. The backup image is that of the NAS server. The command used is Save-VBRNASBackupFLRItem.However, when recovering through the command below, if the type is a folder, only the entire folder is restored. However, I want to select and recover only some files, not all files in the folder. What should I do?## Powershell script (test environment)$nfs_source = Get-VBRNASServer | Where-Object {$_.path -eq "nas:/nfs"}$nfs_restore = Get-VBRNASServer | Where-Object {$_.path -eq "nas:/restore"}$path_restore = Get-VBRNASServerPath -Server $nfs_restore$restorepoint_nfs=Get-VBRNASBackupRestorePoint | Where-Object {$_.NASServerName -eq "nas:/nfs" -and $_.CreationTime.tostring() -eq "5/25/2023 11:47:43 AM"}$restore_session_nfs = Start-VBRNASBackupFLRSession -RestorePoint $restorepoint_nfs$list_files = Get-VBRN
Hi, we have a customer that uses Veeva CRMhttps://appexchange.salesforce.com/appxListingDetail?listingId=a0N300000016ZRTEA2&tab=eIt runs on Salesforce.Does anyone have any experience how Veeam would work on this? Thanks in advance.JJ
SureBackup with Agents is a brand new V12 feature I already blogged about:SureBackup with physical workloads - and some more gems | Veeam Community Resource HubAlready using it in production environments, we now faced an issue with a job consisting of a DC and and Exchange server. Both are physical machines originally. For the DC everything worked fine in the SureBackup run. But the Exchange server failed with:Error: Results: cannot detect IP addressThis is right at the beginning of the testing process and even when I disable all checks.Doing an Instant-Recovery manually with the Exchange, I could determined that the exchange VM - after the necessary P2V and intial boot - shows up an “unknown network adapter” in device manager. Installing the built-in Windows driver for the E1000 with a right-click directly brought up the interface. I guess SureBackup failed to do that automatically. So question is, why does VBR do that correctly for the DC and fails for the Exchange. We’ll try pre-insta
We are using Veeam Backup and Replication 11, getting this error when backing up the servers:
I’d backed up some data for a group of users during a mail migration. The job is complete so I’ve deleted it all to free up the licenses for another job. Unfortunately I believe that I’ve done things in the wrong order. The repository has been deleted and now I can’t get “Remove-VBOLicensedUser”. For every user it outputs:“Remove-VBOLicensedUser : The process cannot access the file '\\10.1.1.1\office365backups\BackupName\Repository.xml' because it is being used by another process” The repository listed is nothing to do with these users and it’s not in user by any process that I can see - certainly openfiles is blank. Any idea how to proceed?
We have used NAS device to create a backup folder with Commvault. Can we upload the backup from NAS to Cloud? We are using Community Edition 10
A little background for those who don't know I developed and have managed a custom search engine for Veeam named resources for (almost) 5 years. With the success of this one hitting over 200k unique searches I want to and expand and test a new search engine that pulls in content from third-party content creators outside the Veeam domain. I struggled if I should put this content directly into the original search engine or to keep it separate and I have decided to keep it separate for now... with the possibility of adding it into the main search depending how it does later. Please read AllWhat I need from you: If you would like your blog or you would like to promote someone's blog who has good Veeam content please comment that URL. I am looking for additional things that might help define good tags. Content can be anything from cross langue support, best practice, release in information, troubleshooting, and anything else Veeam related. Not limited to the Veeam 100 managed content. Not ju
Hi Everyone, Always check the latest patch information and save yourselves some time troubleshooting :) I had a tenant run into this error on the health checks during health checks. Turns out it is a known issue and is resolved in the latest patch: https://www.veeam.com/kb4420?ad=in-text-link#:~:text=Cannot%20find%20previous%20full%20backup%20to%20calculate%20incremental%20backups%20estimate
