Question about agent based backups

If you setup a VBR agent based backup on a machine that has 3 volumes listed in the OS (one volume being the VBR backup repository), and you set the backup type to entire computer; VBR by default will backup all 3 volumes listed in the OS, including the backup repository volume, correct? For context, in this scenario, the Veeam repository volume points to a NAS setup via iscsi initiator.

VMware vCenter Converter no longer available

Today I’ve discovered an interesting blog article about the VMware vCenter Converter. Apparently VMware has removed it from the Downloads, so it’s no longer available for the public. The reasons for this is, that there hasn’t been any development in the last years and it already went end of support in Decemter 2019 (!), which I didn’t know.VMware is working on a new release of the Converter and it will be exciting to see how the next release will look like and what it’s capable of.Here’s the blog post for reference: https://blogs.vmware.com/vsphere/2022/02/vcenter-converter-unavailable-for-download.htmlWhile the vCenter Converter was a great piece of software which I’ve used many times in my IT career, I haven’t used it since some time. Cloud adoption continues to increase as organisations are either taking their first steps into the cloud, or progressing their IT strategies, whether it’s a full cloud migration, multi-cloud or delivering a hybrid architecture.A great workload to leverage the cloud has been as a backup repository. By using the cloud, we can meet multiple improvements to our 3-2-1-1-0 minimum strategy for backups. In case you aren’t familiar with the 3-2-1-1-0 strategy, it is:3 copies of data, across 2 different backup media types, 1 of which must be off-site to the production environment, 1 backup at least must be offline or “immutable”, with 0 backup validation errors. Security BoundariesOne threat that the 3-2-1-1-0 strategy doesn’t cover explicitly is the concept of security boundaries. linux proxy, IBM storage integration and multipath devices that are not removed

We are running 11a with IBM SVC storage integration and storage snapshots. On our Linux proxies there are regularly leftover multipath devices. In the case below the only mapped device at this time is the 5GB disk (mpatha, for testing). There is no backup running anymore, no 10 TB disk should be there. Disaster Recovery (DR) Plan - Top Items to Consider When Creating Your Own

Recently, I had to create a Disaster Recovery (DR) Plan for my organization. It’s actually quite surprising none had ever been created. Part of that is on me since I’ve been here long enough to have done so, and am responsible for most of the systems we would need to recover in the event of a disaster. But let’s be honest, creating DR Plans isn’t one of those “exotic” tasks a Systems Architect likes to do. Working with and playing with the tech we manage is what we get excited about! Regardless, it still *needs* to be done. One may ask why does creating a DR Plan need to be done? It may seem obvious to most, but some it may not. I thought I’d answer that question here, as well as provide a “skeleton” list of items to consider when building out your own DR Plan.First, having a DR Plan brings a sense of “calm” for the IT staff. In the event of a disaster of any sort - site outage; mal-intent via ransomware, disgruntled employee, or major hardware outage; etc - chaos can surely take over.

Export and Import backup job

Greetings, I have been searching for a bit now and have not come across an answer to this.  I was wondering if there was a way to export the actual backup job settings and import into another server that already has existing backups.I have multiple Veeam servers I would like to consolidate into one server. I have moved the backup files and rescanned the storage, that part all looks good. What I am unable to figure out is a way to just get the backup jobs onto the new server, and repoint to the storage I have moved the files to.Is there a way to do this without recreating all the jobs?

Monthly License Review - no option to submit

Confused on what to do with the monthly license review.  This has started popping up on us in the last few days in the backup program (though we’ve been using Veeam already for months...not sure why it’s deciding to start appearing now)We rent a license from a 3rd-party provider.  It’s in their name.I don’t have the “submit” option available when I view the report.  I can only print or save it.  I have a pdf of the file now, but have no clue what to do with it.  Apparently creating the pdf also caused the message to go away every time the program was launched.  Is this all I have to do?  It referenced having to submit it to Veeam, but I have no way of doing that.As far as I am aware, I do not have any access to the Veeam Cloud to send this to you.  Do I just send this pdf to my 3rd-party provider to submit on my behalf?  If so, will my backup program automatically know when they submit the report so I don’t hit the “must submit by” date?

Backup stopped working

Hello, I have a Veeam server that backs up a Win server 2016 server located at another location.  Veeam connects to this VM over a SDWAN connection (Zerotier)  This has worked perfectly for years.  All of a sudden, a few days ago, it started failing.  I uninstalled all components (Veeam Agent) from the server, then redeployed the agent.  I can ping the remote server, install the veeam agent, etc on it.  But when I run the job, I get an error:  “Error: Failed to connect to remote backup service.”   Any ideas what could cause this?
