Hi,i work for an MSP where a lot of clients are small businesses still using Shadowprotect. (even larger clients..) not always setup by us, but as we onboard them we want to start converting to Veeam.Certain smaller clients have physical machines acting as the Veeam B&R Console + backup repository with WD RED NAS HDD’s (only for the purpose of a backup destination, not a failover/actual backup server - due to $$)I’m trying to design a standard quote to help our sales team for a certain client type that doesn't mind spending a bit more money.Thinking of a Lenovo SR250 Maybe?? as the “entry level” Veaam setup(virtualised). (if clients require faster recovery against host failure of their production servers then a custom quote would be created for more of a 1:1 setup)I just want something that will still allow for replication failover (run replicas decently)So consider this, most these clients have a Domain controller VM, File Server VM, and MAYBE exchange VM.The backup server host wo
With the release of Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 v6 the Self Service Portal was also unleashed. In this video we run through a scenario where a new tenant is being onboarded from the Service Provider point of view as well as what steps need to be actioned by the tenants.
I’m currently running the 30-day trial version of Office 365 backup (18.104.22.168) and everything has been running well for the last 10 days or so. I have the software set up to run every 8 hours for a whole organization backup. Out of the blue, last night, the backups started failing with “Access denied. The remote server returned an error: (403) Forbidden”The admin password is the same and Azure AD shows the login for the Veeam account as successful. I’ve checked our Office 365 Health panel and see nothing new that might impact the backups. I’m running a backup to a local repository and have rebooted the backup server and the proxy server. I have plenty (4.8+ TB’s) of storage available on the repository. I went into the Organization setup and reentered the credential info and all of the checkboxes came back as successful. Has anybody else encountered this issue or does anybody have any hints for how to alleviate it?
Good morning guys,I recently noticed that some of our M365 backup jobs (various tenants and various backup VMs) always complete with warnings. We are having this problem for about a week or so. The messages always look like this:Failed to backup item: /personal/testuser_testdomain_com/Documents/Todo.one, Download request retry timeout exceeded. Has anybody of you noticed similar problems when trying to backup OneNote-Files? Thank you very much best regardsyanni4iwx
Recently, I have noticed on this platform that most of us work with Windows Server 2016, 2019, and now 2022. Also even Windows 10. In this guide, I will be showing you how to update the Windows installation image (install.wim) file with the latest security intelligence package available. I have successfully tested this on Windows 10 Enterprise, Pro und Home-Edition and Windows Server 2016 and 2019. Here is a detailed guide on "how to install ADK, MDT, and WDS: How to deploy Windows images via Microsoft Deployment Toolkit and Windows Deployment Services".How do you provision your new servers? Regardless of how this is done, you may also find this guide useful.Microsoft Defender Antivirus, formerly known as Windows Defender, is an antivirus protection program that’s included with Windows 10. Unlike other antivirus programs like McAfee, Microsoft Defender is free and doesn’t require any additional installation. After the installation of Windows 10, the built-in version of Microsoft Defend

What can I do, if the storage volume on which my Office 365 backups reside is corrupted, deleted or somehow lost ? That was the question I faced myself with. So I went into the lab to try out a few things ! In this blog post I’m going to show you how to recover a failed Veeam Backup for Office 356 repository. In addition to recover a failed repository, I’m also going to show you how to properly back up VBO repositories. Within this blog post, I will abbreviate Veeam Backup for Office 365 with VBO. Veeam Backup & Replication is abbreviated with VBR. However, lets jump into the lab and the scenario. The lab setupDue to the fact, that I still don’t have a “proper” homelab, I’m using VMware Workstation for this scenario. My lab environment for testing this case, consists of 2 virtual machines. One virtual machine is hosting VBR and the other one is hosting VBO.The VBO server itself, has an additional partition on which all backup repositories reside. All my backup jobs go into separate f
After my last post highlighting the Veeam software that reaches end of support in 2022, I wanted to expand this further and discuss software that Veeam works with that will be approaching end of life in 2022. Why does this matter when I’m just trying to protect the data?Times change, and software changes with them, until it’s no longer supported. At any point, a patch to an operating system, a .NET framework update, or anything else really, could end up with the software no longer being backed up properly, or not working at all in production. Without valid support there’s no process to get a fix, and whilst your backup software may still be in support with Veeam, if the vendor won’t fix the problem, it’s time to start panicking. With this in mind, lets explore the software & operating systems being declared end of life in 2022 so we can start planning our upgrades/migrations if necessary. MicrosoftWe may as well start with one of, or potentially the largest software vendor in the wo
I finished my VMCA journey this week and passed the exam 😎🎉🎉🎉.So, I would like to write down some of my experiences and difficulties on this trip for others. 1. What is the VMCA? The Veeam certified Architect (VMCA) is the second and highest Veeam certification after the Veeam Certified Engineer (VMCE).The VMCA is all about developing a backup solution and understanding the "Veeam Architecture Methodology", whereas the VMCE is more concentrated on technical aspects. 2. The courseThe "Veeam Architecture Method" is the overarching theme of the course. It refers to the steps a Veeam Architect takes when creating a Veeam backup solution:Discovery - conceptual design - logical design - physical design - implementation and governance - validation and iteration. You will gain knowledge of how to:identify all stakeholders, capture the current environment, requirements, and risks - and analyze them by applying best practices. make the right requests to the correct persons to extract needed i

I’ve just seen VMware has announced a revision to their expected release date of vSphere & vSAN 8, and for the right reasons! The VMware vSphere 7.0 Legacy I won’t go on a bashing spree of VMware vSphere 7 release, but… it wasn’t good. The highlights of which include aggressive wear & tear, and subsequent killing of, SD cards and lower durability storage. Additionally, VMware had to temporarily pull some v7 U3 releases due to Quality Assurance (QA) issues. With the issues mentioned above being part of the story of the infamous v7 release history, I felt positive when my RSS reader pulled [UPDATE: Link has been pulled by VMware] this article [/UPDATE] from VMware this morning. In summary, General Availability (GA) of vSphere & vSAN 8.0 have both been pushed to the 11th October 2022, with VMware specifically calling out addition time wanted for QA. [UPDATE] As this link has been pulled, I can't confirm if this is still VMware's proposed date, or if it was a placeholder. [/UPDA

Recently we had a vulnerability on Veeam Backup & Replication called CVE-2023-27532.So today, I’m going to show how easy is update VBR and install the patch to correct this threat. According with KB4424, we need to download the patch correctly to v11 or v12. In my case I going to update a v12 environment. So, the first thing is download patch: After that we only to unzip the downloaded file: The installation is really simple. We only need next, next, finish: I prefer to do not check box to update components automatically. We can do that as a final step after installation: Just click finish: Now we can open our VBR console and update the last component: At the end we can check that Veeam Backup & Replication is on 126.96.36.1990 P20230223:
I speak to people often about ransomware and Veeam ONE has a helping hand here that can do more than many people think. What is important however is that the alarms and reports that matter get to the right persona are made visible. In this post I want to cover the 4 alarms and 1 report that matter the most AND how to handle the conditions that make these happen. Let’s get into it, these simple steps will make a different in getting Veeam ONE’s ransomware or malicious activity detected quickly.Possible Ransomware Activity AlarmThis alarm is in the Alarm Management section for both VMware and Hyper-V and looks at two sets of rules: sustained high CPU and disk writes; but also looks at sustained network transfer (exfiltration). At a minimum, this alarm should have an email sent to two or more persons (backup admins, security team, etc.) via email and separate the emails with a space: I also recommend going into the actions section, and put in a script that does something relevant to your

While helping an SE with a POC, I encountered an odd obscure error when trying to install a repository on one VM and a proxy on another VM. The error message was received after we added the VMs as managed Windows servers and during the actual repository and proxy install. The error I received was:“Installing package Transport Error: Error 1920. Service Veeam Data Mover Service (VeeamTransportSvc) failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services.” I was a little panicked when I saw this as I have not encountered this error before, and the service installs work. After my initial panic, my attention immediately turned to an account permissions issue. The account being used is a domain account that was a member of the local administrators group on the servers. The account used was able to start and stop other services. A check of Google yielded little insight. It did point me to the Veeam KB 1059 – which discusses this error. The first step it mentioned
Hello, would you like to receive digital badges for your VMSP, VMTSP, VMCE or VMCA certification - e.g via Acclaim?I think this would be great, you can show your achievement, clients and employers can verify your certifcation online on the Badge Website. An example of an digital badge can be found here:https://www.youracclaim.com/badges/e08d2837-6862-43a1-a57e-44246ab432e3 What do you think? Good idea or nonsense?
Hey guys! Recently I write a blog post about restoring backups to AWS. I normally write in brazilian portuguese but I thought will be a good content to translate and send here too. Like a say, I will detail all the pre-requisites and scenarios to restore backups to AWS using Veeam. This can be useful in three scenarios:Restore your on-premises environment directly to EC2 machines on Amazon. Migrate your on-premises environment to AWS. Create a test environment of your on-premises infrastructure on AWS to validate patching, for example. Pre-requisites As always it is important that we understand the prerequisites of the solution. And in this case we are still involving a solution external to Veeam, which is AWS. Supported backup types First, we have the supported Veeam backup types for restoring to AWS. Are they: Backups of vSphere or vCoud Director VMs created by Veeam Backup & Replication. Hyper-V VM backups created by Veeam Backup & Replication. Backup VMs and physical machin
Hello Community! For years, I have been Looking for the Perfect Dashboard, using different technologies and approaches, which includes Veeam ONE, Elastic, Splunk, and Grafana. All the mentioned technologies are great for deep visibility, log inspection, capacity planning, etc.But as Veeam has been moving into the right direction of including RESTful API on all products, I finally decided myself to use a combination of Bash Shell Script, InfluxDB, and Grafana. Here it is myself with a Grafana t-shirt I made, on the example monitoring Veeam :) How does all of this looks like? So, if you are wondering how all of this might look, it is indeed quite easy, so on the left we have all sort of Veeam Products, with their RESTful API, in this case:Veeam Enterprise Manager - https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backup/rest/overview.html?ver=100 Veeam Backup for Microsoft Office 365 - https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/vbo365/rest/overview.html?ver=40 Veeam Backup for Azure - https://helpcenter.veeam.com/
