IntroductionObject storage vendors all have configuration considerations that must be accounted for as part of the process of designing Veeam backup repositories. Some of these considerations can be limiting, while others simply help dictate architecture decisions. In this post, I discuss on-premises vendor considerations, and how Veeam job settings can make an impact. To accommodate for vendor specific on-premises Object Storage Device limitations, it is sometimes necessary to adjust Veeam’s storage optimization settings. Every on-premises Object Storage vendor may express these limitations differently, but it usually boils down to the ability to handle large amounts of object metadata (and therefore number of objects) per bucket and/or device. In our experience, using larger storage optimization settings (job block size) with on-premises Object Storage devices typically works best. The bigger the storage optimization settings, the bigger the average object size which means less objects
Hey Guys, Sorry for the weekend help, I am just too excited to leave VEEAM aloneI have googled and read other forum discussions to this topic but they all point towards a service not being started and in my case, everything is running, and I have rebooted everything also coming here for some helpI am in no rush this weekend, this can wait until MondayError message: Error: Managed session has failed: No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it x.x.x.x:10005 Thanks in advance guys,
Hi there! I would like to share with all of you this awesome tool called Apache GuacamoleApache Guacamole is a clientless remote desktop gateway. It supports standard protocols like VNC, RDP, and SSH.I use it a lot to connect to my HomeLab, instead of enabling a VPN and open few RDP and SSH, I use my Navigator to connect to my Servers, no matter where Im connecting from (Ipad, Macbook, Raspberry Pi, Windows, etc.)For me is very useful, you can add MFA, SSL Cert, etc. very flexible and friendly. Here you will find the Installation files, instructions and useful information.Just a few screenshots! These are from my home lab. In another post, I will share with you a basic deploy and configuration, over vsphere. Home access Connections list Windows Server 2016 RDP over HTML5!SSH over HTML5!Windows Server + other tabs on topenjoy!.
Hi all,We all love VEEAM .But why is it called like that?Originally Ratmir Timashev and Andrei Baronov founded Veeam in 2006.They called their company from the phonetic pronunciation of the letters VM (stands for Virtual Machine)! In the meanwhile everybody knows that the company is owned by US Insight Partners and has it’s headquarters in Baar (Switzerland) and in Columbus, Ohio (US). I think that this is too simple, the name V.E.E.A.M. stands for much more... VVirtual Machines / Virtualization. Yes correct, it all started at the beginning with monitoring and reporting for a virtual infrastructure.Virtual machines and virtualization is probably still the most used asset with the veeam products.Versatile. It’s more than clear that Veeam tries to have a solution for every demand, so it has definitely versatile products.Vision. Veeam has a great vision : To be the most trusted provider of Backup solutions that deliver Cloud Data Management! EEliminate Data Loss. VBR brings balance to you

"Mastering Veeam Backup & Replication 11" is now in publication (since February 2022) and is ready to order either the book or e-book/kindle.Well, since writing my first book on v10, I debated to myself about writing the update of the book to v11. It took me some time to process and think about if I wanted to do it, which I then took the plunge. This time, the process was much smoother as I had already done the first book and understood the templates, formatting, etc. The team at Packt worked with me again and my busy schedule to create something I think that everyone will enjoy reading. Whether you are a newbie with Veeam or a seasoned expert, you can learn something I think from this book.Protect your cloud, virtual, and on-premises environments by implementing Veeam's powerful backup and replication technologyKey FeaturesGain in-depth knowledge of CDP and Hardened Repositories to use in your virtual environment Explore Veeam's monitoring and reporting utility - Veeam ONE - a
For those who don’t go to the VMware forums (another ‘communities’ based vendor website) often, there was finally a VMware employee who somewhat unofficially acknowledged the issue of running ESXi on SD cards, specifically with vSphere 7U2. I say U2 because v7 and v7U1c, of which I both have run on DELL IDSDMs, runs flawlessly; and has for the past year.To read a little more on the issue, you can review the VMware Communities post here. The issue, it seems, has to do with their newly formatted boot partitions. But honestly, I think the mishap (Hosts disconnecting/hanging) is mostly due to a new vmkusb driver. VMW is currently working on a fix, though they’re really recommending orgs to start using ‘high-performance’ storage (i.e. disks) for the boot device moving forward. All that to say is, if you haven’t upgrade to 7U2, I recommend not to. If you’re running your boot on disk, I think you’ll be fine. Otherwise, hold off. One of the Veeam Vanguards, Luciano Patrao, did a nice little p
New job and one of my tasks is to cleanup VEEAM. Trying to make sure the backup settings are correct and consistent. I’m also renaming the jobs in a logical and consistent manner. First couple of renamed jobs ran last night. I was surprised that a) they did not take a new full and b) they did not create a new folder. I’m using Reverse Incremental. Can I safely rename the folders to reflect the name of the jobs? Will the vbk and vbm ever rename to the name of the job? I assume I can’t rename those manually.
Twas a few days before Christmas and Veeam decided the sysadmins around the world had been good all year long, they’d tested their backups, met their RPOs and had earned an early gift. Over the last several years Microsoft has been moving into Microsoft 365 with their services. With this migration they have introduced many new features into the eco system to make day to day communication and processes smoother. In this same transition Microsoft has also moved to depreciate legacy technologies for newer features that are purpose built for the ecosystem and modern data communication. We are in the process of what is now the second depreciation cycle of legacy technologies in Microsoft 365. The first being when on-prem services did not make it to the cloud and now with the deprecation of legacy APIs on January 31, 2023. Its important to note that depreciated does not mean these services are nasally going to be shut off but further support by Microsoft and third-party access to these services will also be limited if at all. In this case, services in Microsoft 365 that did not make the cut, by Microsoft, to be coded into the Microsoft Graph API with modern APIs will no lo
Hello everyone! Hi,In this topic I want to highlight the possibilities to archive a backup for a VM before you want to delete or decommision.Every company that uses VMs has to deal with deleting existing VMs, replacing them with new VMs because of migrating the application running on the VM, migrating because of using a new OS on the VM, …A lot of reasons why existing VMs will soon or later will be deleted or replaced by new ones. What do you want to do as a proper engineer before deleting the old VM? → Of course, you first want to take a backup before deleting the VM.I often had the situation where the customer needs something being restored/recovered of the deleted VM 😊Personally the best way for a VM that will be deleted, is having an independent full backup. Is that possible with Veeam 🤣? Sure, in my opinion, there are 2 easy ways to do that.Using VeeamZIPIf the VM is still available on your hypervisor, the easiest way is to use VeeamZIP.It creates an independent full backup (.VBK file), which y
ALT TEXT: Banner with blog post title “Veeam & File Shares: Licensing & Feature Comparison” Hi!Today we’re going to talk about file shares and how to protect them. We’ll also look at how Veeam handles the various backup options available within the Veeam Universal License.File shares can take many forms, so we’re going to look at the following:A Physical/Virtual Server A NAS/SAN/Storage Device with File Share capabilities Azure Files Amazon EFS (Elastic File Systems) Physical & Virtual Servers Before Veeam introduced native file-share support for Veeam Backup & Replication, you could still backup physical or virtual servers. This was achieved via native hypervisor integrations, or the use of the Veeam Agent, on supported operating systems. When protecting servers that provide file shares from a traditional Windows/Linux/UNIX operating system, we license each server, without many considerations to the file shares themselves. There are a few considerations still to talk abo
I try to backup a VM Machine on hyper-v but i get error: 20.04.2022 10:56:18 :: Processing DC-01 Error: There are no available IP addresses to connect to Hyper-V Integration Service. How can I solve this, with anoter hyper-v server it works. Thx Peter
This script showcases just how easy it is to use Veeam PowerShell cmdlets to export an M365 mailbox. This script is designed to be executed on a Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 (VB365) v6 server and it's interactive so no parameters are required. Upon execution, the script polls for information which culminates in the specified user mailbox being exported to a PST file. The code in this script could also be referenced to create a script to fully automate the mailbox export process. For more detailed information, please follow the VeeamHub link:https://github.com/VeeamHub/powershell/tree/master/VB365-ExportMailboxToPSTHere’s a screenshot of what it looks like in action:
Update Jan 13th - Latest version available on https://github.com/yetanothermightytool/powershell/tree/master/vbo/vbo-health-checker***It's always recommended to open a support case as soon you're facing an issue with Veeam Backup for Microsoft Office 365. But as systems engineers, we somehow always want to know what happens under the hood That's why I started writing a VBO Health Check script which quickly gives some useful information about the health of a Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 setup. The script checks and reports possible issues/misconfigurations: - Backup Job Status per Job / Number of failed job - License expiration date - Check logs if throtthling occured on MS side - Possible slow backup due to slow backup repository - Proxy stuff (min. recommended CPU and Memory) - Check Windows event log for low memory conditions - Logfile with the findingsLogfile gets stored in “C:\Scripts\Veeam\vbo\vbo_healthcheck_<computername>.log”Note: The script is

Recently I needed to restore a SAP Oracle Database and I received this error below: After open a ticket with Veeam support I discover that this error has relation with SAP Oracle Databases specifically. The solution was a fix on Veeam Explorer for Oracle. After applying it my restore ran successfully. However, it doesn't have a public KB about this error and only support Veeam has access for this fix.So, if any of you get this kind of error, I recommend open a ticket with Veeam to solve your problem as soon as possible.
