I have a basic question. I am using VMWare ESXi Free license and the Free Veeam Backup. Was using just the Windows Agent for a long time but am now using the Backup and Recovery 12. I have an OLD ESXi host running a Windows 2012 Essentials server, and a new ESXi host I am transferring it to for legacy purposes. For Testing I originally just copied the Virtual Machine files to the new box, registered the VM and that worked. When I finally decided to actually move the machine I tested by restoring a backup from Veeam windows agent to the VM as a bare metal recovery. This worked the first time, and the second time. I was testing on the weekends after hours so there was a week between. The next week I decided to actually do it following the procedure that had been successful previously. The restore said it completed successfully, but the server would not boot normally and went to the Recovery Console. It apparently had problems with the active directory database.I tried this seve

Hello,I have a Hyper-V host with 2012 R2 on it and already added to Veeam as a host and it was working fine.One day I found a VM backup job fail.I tried to rescan the host and found the error Access Denied. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80070005 (E_ACCESSDENIED))I tried to edit the host and check the credentials and found I removed the job and removed the host and tried to add it again but the same error in image above appears.I don’t know where the issue comes from. We ended up losing our file server disk, we make a backup with the Veeam agent because it is a physical machine, but several files are corrupted, and I can't get them out of Veeam, I saw that there is a Veeam tool that can help to recover these files but I couldn't find them.

Hello,How would my Backup copy Job chain look?Backup Jobs are 7 restore points (Incrementals + Synthetic Fulls)Backup Copy Jobs will also have 7 Restore points.As I’m going trough some old discussions I can see that with Forward incrementals and first Full Backup with backup copy jobs everything has stay above 7 restore points.Also one more question, do I need to seed backup copy jobs if I’m going to use WAN Acceleration in High Bandwidth Mode

Hello everybody,I have the following question regarding Backup Copy Jobs:I will create Backup Copy Jobs with Immediate Copying Backup Jobs are configured with incremental + Synthetic Full Backups going to Windows Repo (ReFS 64KB) connected via iSCSI to our NAS storage, Utilizing FastClone option.Now I would like to know is this going to be the same for backup copy jobs?I have 2 Wan Accelerators (Source and Target), Windows Repo on Target Location also connected via iSCSI to NAS Storage that is formatted as ReFs.Are they going to do the same configuration as primary backup chain, incrementals + syntethical (Fast Clone)What are the general best practices for Backup Copy JobsI would like to have identical setup as Backup Jobs on Primary Site

Data copies from the Linux hardened repo to S3 On Prem lblows up spacew up space consumption on object storage without a clue why.In this case, the disk consumption on the Linux Repo is about 900TB (after compression & dedup) on XFS. Copying the same data to Object storage scale-out-repo (using 4MB block size as recommend in best-practices guide), object storage size is currently 1.66PB of data and the cluster is almost full (86%)As the disk space was calculated using the VEEAM sizing tool, we calculated with about 1.1PB on object storage with additional space to grow.And the second thing is, that the S3 object deletions object storage receives from VEEAM are much less than they should be, but the immutability time (+ 3 week) has already reached, so there must be much more objects deleted than what is actually happening.

Hi, according to Dell R550 is compatible with Ubuntu 22.04 LTS but when checking in Ubuntu web site. it’s look like it’s support only with Intel Gold CPUIs it OK to install Ubuntu 22.04 LTS for Immutable on Intel Silver CPU? Thanks

Hello community,I’m working for a customer with a v12 using MS SQL and I have to install the latest v12.1 on a new VBR server with PostgreSQL.Reading the documentation, I see that “Veeam Backup & Replication supports configuration database migration between different database engines only within the same Veeam Backup & Replication version”.https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backup/vsphere/vbr_config_migrate.html?ver=120Can you confirm that I must install v12 on the new VBR server, migrate the configuration and then upgrade to v12.1?Is the migration scenario between same db engine still supported within the upgrade?Thanks

In a customer environment today we faced the issue that all HANA plugin backups all of a sudden stopped backing up:Session failed: Unable to process the workload: your license has been exceeded   In VBR’s license dialog I found the plugins to consume VUL licenses all of a sudden - which there are only the 6 complimentary ones. The plugins run on VMs already under socket licensing and that worked for years.Has anyone seen this already? How does VBR actually determine if the plugin resides on a VM? This process seems to be impaired here.Case is open. Support is digging through plugin logs. ThanksMichael

Hello,I’m planning to implement now Backup Copy Jobs over WAN Accelerators.Our Upload/Download speed is around 850Mbps on both locations That should be High Bandwidth mode as I already did some research.Now I would like to have some advices from you guys:We have 7 Backup Jobs with total of 20 VMs all combined I will connect Secondary Storage (Synology RS3621xs+) to a VM directly with Ethernet Cable via iSCSI. It will be formatted as ReFS (64KB)I have following questions:Is one to one WAN Accelerator enough or I should implement 2 Source WAN Acceleratros to 1 Target WAN Accelerator What are you’re best practices for scheduling the Backup Copy Job? Hello,I would like an suggestion on how to approach this scenario, I have some options in mind but I want to get some best practice if possible.Current situation is like this:Backup Jobs to our Main Site Backup Copy Jobs to our DR SiteNow I would like to start backups to our VHR.From suggestion in the my previous topics I will create a VM with VBR on Synology with underlying disk that it has. I will isolate it and restrict access that is only needed. Now I have question about Backups.What is the best way to configure this now?My toughs are since I already have backups on the DR Site from Main, I could configure Backup Copy Jobs and select objects from the Repo that is already on DR.How the connection is established then?I would guess that the VBR server will start Veeam Data Movers on the Repo from DR Site and on the VHR and that data will just transfer itself on the same site?

Hello,I would need to configure immutable backups for our DR site. We have a Synology NAS which I would connect via iSCSI to the VM that will be LHR.As I’m gone trough some documentation on Veeam for VHR I can see that there is an .ISO and a script for this.Now the question is how would I approach this with adding iSCSi storage to it. I didn’t see a part where I can first do that then continue with VHR.

Hi, I am currently restoring a VM to a ESXi host (original host) and I am already on my 8th day of the restoration. Which is very very very slow. The VM has a size of 2TB and as of this writing the “statistics” shows that I have still 900+ GB left with the restoration rate at 2MB/s at 56% in progress state while the “log” shows “Restoring Hard disk 1 (2.0 TB): 188.6GB restored at 349KB/s [nbd] 157:xx:xx” This is a Full VM restoration job and the file is located on an External HDD. This is the only job running at the moment. Restoration progress:Day 1 - 0% Day 2 - 1%Day 3 - 28%Day 4 - 51%Day 5 - 53%Day 6 - 54%Day 7 - 55%Day 8 - 56% The Veeam VM configuration:vCPU = 4 CPUMemory = 4GBUSB = 3.0Ethernet Interface  = VMXNET3 running at 10GbpsRepository Configuration  = unchecked “Limit read and write data rates”Throttling = 500MbpsLice

This is more of a Linux question, but it’s for use with Veeam, so thought I’d try posting here to see if anyone else ran into my issue & what was done to resolve it. I am having the darndest time getting a Volume from my storage array (Nimble) to partition correctly in Ubuntu 22.04 so I can use it as a Veeam Repository. Using fdisk to partition, it seems to work, but then I get the following error after ‘writing’ the task:fdisk errorI reboot, then go to attempt to install a filesystem on the partition, and get the following error:filesystem busyAnything I attempt to do with it, the OS says it’s busy. Going through the motions of upgrading our Nutanix AHV to V5.  The Nutanix clusters are already done, attempting to upgrade the AHV portion.  Downloaded the latest version yesterday,  installed without issue.  Veeam is reporting that the Nutanix AHV Proxies need to be upgraded (as expected) but when we try and upgrade, the upgrade is trying to pass off an incorrect user ID (ROOT) to the Proxies which of course isn’t valid and the upgrade process errors out with an Incorrect Username/PW.  Ticket has already been opened but support is taking a little too long to respond with a fix.Any ideas?

what does this “full restore point + key” icon mean when I’m looking at my backup data?  All of my backups are marked for immutability at the performance tier.  But only some of my jobs have the little “key” on the icon.The “key” icon is not listed in the documentation, at least not that i can find.  I’ve looked at https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backup/vsphere/restore_points_icons.html?zoom_highlight=icons  but the icon I see in my console isn’t listed 

Hello,I would like to check with you guys if this performance is solid.I first created everything with WAN Accelerators that are physical machines with SSD, one for source and one for target side but it caused some problems and its not so convenient for me.Now I configured everything with Direct mode and I would like to see if this is a solid performance or not.Our connection on both locations are 1Gbps, around 750-850 Mbps upload/download speed.So this is from Primary Office to Secondary Office via VPN, 2 different countries.I have 3 BCJ, 1 is for 2 biggest VMs, and others are smaller ones.So the biggest VM is now left, all of the others are done but the Processing Rate is not so much to be honest, no other processes are running in the background.  

Heres the scenario:I have VBR server A with a SOBR that backs up to a local hardened Linux server,  then that offloads to AWS in region us-west1 (also immutable) .  I back up serverX to the SOBR. AndI have VBR server B that has configured an AWS repository in eu-central1 (also immutable) Can I copy the contents of the AWS bucket used by the SOBR between these regions (strictly in AWS, not using Veeam)  then import the copied object storage/jobs for serverX on VBR B and be able to restore from it?I know about the backup verification tool, but that can't be used for object storage.  

Hi community, if you are using Dell Data Domain and you are planning to upgrade to v12.1, be careful and read well the documentation, especially release notes (https://www.veeam.com/veeam_backup_12_1_release_notes_rn.pdf): Dell Data Domain: the supported operating system version is 7.3 to 7.12. Upgrade to it, or thebackup jobs pointed to this repository will fail to start. As @foggy explained to me in the R&D forum, “earlier versions are already End Of Support from the Dell side and 7.3 is required for Retention Lock support from the API perspective“ Enjoy! 💚

I’m missing something simple here I thnk…all of my backups are unencrypted and I want to encrypt them, I set one to do that, stored the key in VEEAM and of course offsite too, but how do I know it’s working? I tried a guest file restore from that backup, picked a file, it restored fine, but nowhere did VEEAM asked me to provide the password..  I assume this is because it knows it, but that doesn’t make me feel comfortable with the process. I suppose the test could be to install backup & replication on another computer and try the restore from there? a bit of work though so I’m thinking there’s an easier way or am I worrying about nothing?
