On my esxi 7.0 cluster I’ve added a couple of VMs for testing. Having had B&R configured to backup entire hosts (with some VM exceptions) it obviously backed up these test VMs. I did not notice this change, since I’ve configured Veeam to not email me on successful backups.Over the next days I removed these VMs. By doing so, Veeam completed to produce successful backups but today by accident I’ve noticed that it adds a single line message of the form “XXXX is no longer processed by this job. Make sure this change is intentional.”Two questions:These last jobs were still successful. Therefore I’ve received no e-mail for them (even if I did, I’d tend to overlook content for jobs that ran without hitches). Would it be better to have this type of a job end with a warning exit code, instead of a success one? How can I avoid having this message in the next backups? Should I edit the job and, if so, edit it how exactly?

Hi, Veeam newbie here looking for recommendation on how to make optimal use of our network cards. Our servers are HP DL365s with 4 x 1Gbps on a single module and 2 x 10Gbps on a separat module. The plan is to follow the VMwar Best Practice document to allocate 2 x 1Gbps for Management and vMotion, 2 x 1Gbps for the VM traffic (VLAN 111) and 1 x 10Gbps for storage traffic to our NetApp (from where we mount the VMDKs via NFS). Our Veeam BaR server and proxy are both VMs and not physical and we have a separate VLAN for backup and replication (VLAN 333), and for storage (VLAN 222). A colleague says we are over-engineering this and backup traffic should just flow thru the same storage network. Any suggestions?
I’m testing restore process from azure blob storage to azure vm. Here is my current configuration: VBR11 installed from market place : Standard_F4s_v2Azure proxy VM :Standard_F4s_v2Azure blob storage where backup of vm sits: PremiumI restore vm to another Standard_F4s_v2 and maximum speed what I get is… 150MB/s Am I missing some configuration or is it an azure limitation?
Happy Friday everyone! Today I want to trade ‘war stories’ of IT mishaps and experiences learned. Have you ever felt yourself psychic, that you could see something going horribly wrong, and it DID go horribly wrong? Maybe you had the overwhelming urge to say I told you so? Maybe you did tell them so and got promoted or fired! Lets hear the stories! My story that inspired this Fun Friday happened a fair amount of time ago, so it feels okay to discuss now. Customer was going through some financial difficulties, cash flow was reduced, survival mode engaged. Cut all the costs that you can find. The support contract for the backup server was due for renewal, this server was already 5 years old and with their financial forecast, a replacement was not on the table. We tried to be price sensitive and offered third party Next Business Day support, was as cheap as we could get. Customer asked if there was anything cheaper, we told them there wasn’t. Customer declined support renewal. I made a pe

Modern business requires a Modern Data Protection solution that not only allows for the backup and recovery of core infrastructure, clouds, and applications but enables the lowest possible operational overhead through advanced automation, monitoring and orchestration. With Veeam Modern Data Protection, your critical data such as Microsoft 365 Exchange, OneDrive, and SharePoint online will be protected with just one integrated solution. However, Veeam also offers Veeam Backup for Microsoft Office 365 as a standalone product to protect and restore Microsoft O365 data, including Office 365 mailboxes, Exchange, SharePoint, OneDrive, OneNote, and Teams. It allows you to timely back up your data weekly, daily, or as often as every five minutes. Here is a guide on why is it imperative to protect Microsoft Office 365.As of today, data is the most critical resource and valuable currency in the world. In Cyber Security, we refer to data as the New Oil. This Forbes link will highlight more on this
Microsoft 365 formerly referred to as Office 365 is a SaaS application that provides productivity and collaboration through a diverse set of micro-services and applications such as Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, Skype for Business Online, Microsoft Teams, Exchange Online Protection, Office in a browser, and many others. Microsoft recently made a distinction between M365 and O365. Therefore, M365 is a bundle of services that includes O365, and many other services as mentioned previously. I will be discussing these details in a subsequent guide. Here are some related guides that might interest you: How to Cancel Office 365 Family Subscription, how to complete Microsoft Office 365 Family Subscription, how to install Microsoft Teams on a Mac PC, and how to install and activate Office 2019 on your Mac PC.As of today, data is the most critical resources and one of the most valuable currency in the world. If you had this on your 2022 IT bingo card, well done, you probably should try the lottery. If you’re less psychically gifted however, this announcement is slightly bizarre. Microsoft announced yesterday that they’re intending to retire their Basic SKU IP Addresses. Here’s everything we need to know. Basic SKU only, Standard SKU Unaffected It wouldn’t be much of a cloud if we couldn’t access it, so don’t worry, only Basic SKUs will be impacted by this change. Microsoft have announced that on the 30th September 2025, Basic SKU IP addresses will be retired.Further, from the 31st March 2025, you won’t be able to provision new Basic SKU IP addresses. How do these SKUs differ? Static/Dynamic IP AddressesAll IP Address allocations are static within the Standard SKU, whereas the Basic SKU offers Dynamic/Static for IPv4 and Dynamic is the only option for IPv6. Security ModelStandard SKU IP Addresses follow the ‘Secure-by-Default’ model. This means it’s mandatory to utilise a Network Security G
Hi Team, I would like to verify if we will backup the NAS (which is located in Prod), how can we replicate it to the other site? via Backup Copy job?I believed veeam replication is for VMs only, but customer have NAS and must have a copy as well in DR sitereference; https://forums.veeam.com/file-shares-f57/nas-backup-copy-job-with-restore-points-t64904.html Thanks
Hi Folks, I recently was lucky enough to be chosen as an Auth0 Ambassador. However, I am still very much on the initial learning curve when it comes to identity management so have signed up to a few udemy courses and pulled out the documentation. When starting a new path it is always nice to take your first steps in familiar territory so I decided to try out leveraging SAML2.0 for Veeam Enterprise Manager. First we need to create a free Okta developer account: Then we will create a new app integration: VEM (Veeam Enterprise Manager supports SAML 2.0 so that will be our choice here:We need to give it a name:Next we need to enter our SAML settings. I used a laptop where I have a test VBR setup:These two settings (Single Sign On URL and Audience URI can be found in VEM here after you have ticked the Enable SAML 2.0 radio box. Don’t worry about the other settings we will import them later. Save the SAML settings in Okta then open up the App page: Further down on the right hand side you wil
I am currently working on setting up VBR backup to Data Domain and noticed that Dell and Veeam have different recommendations for compression.Dell (https://www.dell.com/support/kbdoc/en-ca/000194977/veeam-backup-replication-with-powerprotect-datadomain)Veeam (https://www.veeam.com/kb1745)Does anyone want to chime in on what they have found to be best practice? Thanks!
Bit OT with regard to Veeam itself. I was wondering how you handle lots and lots of passwords and other sensitive information. I’m primarily interested in whether you use/consider safe for use low-cost and/or “small” solutions like password keepers (bitwarden seems nice enough). Assume a single user in an organization that has to protect data like this.On one hand these apps look nice. But on the other, security-wise they are not PGP replacements at all, trading ease of use for security.
Somewhat not Veeam related, but I figured there is a good group of folks in here to ask. Earlier we were discussing the largest VM’s we backup in VBR, and I noted that I was looking for maybe a solution to for offloading large amounts of archive data to Wasabi, but still wanting to access the data as a share. I sent a quick message over to my Wasabi rep and he referred me to the Wasabi Cloud NAS service which I do actually remember hearing about a few weeks ago but forgot about. Does anyone have any practical experience with it?And to keep it Veeam related, I was going to ask if anyone had any experience with how to back the service up, although when creating this post, I got a suggested topic…..which is only 6 days old and yet I missed it!But protecting 50TB of data is pretty expensive when using NAS backups, and for archive data that rarely access, so I’m thinking deploy the Veeam Agent for Windows on the server and backup up that volume that way…..though it would need to be teste
Have a new Veeam server for a client. Got everything setup and ready to go, but ended up needing to change the hostname for the server itself. No worries. I’ve done that many a time. Business as usual...except afterward, the Veeam Backup Service refused to start not matter what I did. Rebooted the server, tried manually starting it, ran Windows update, change to Auto Start without delay. Nothing worked. My gut was telling me the hostname change was the cause of this, but I just wasn’t sure. Then I found this magical article by our very own, MicoolPaul, and it was exactly what I needed. The hostname change was indeed the issue. Veeam was trying to connect to a SQL database using a hostname that no longer existed...because we changed it! I manually changed the hostname prefix for the SQL DB using the Veeam Configuration Data Connection Settings tool, and this seems to have done the trick! Thank you so much @MicoolPaul! You are wonderful!
Here’s one to find out who has the largest backup in the forums. Currently my largest server I backup is 45.1TB. The largest one I had backing up was 115TB. It took a while but worked fine. I’ve been working on splitting it up in to multiple file servers to allow more concurrent streams to our backup/tape jobs.
