[PowerShell] analyze used repository space

Here I want to show how to query space in VBR Repositories with a few PowerShell snippets. These can be taken to check used space and compare this with restore points in VBR database. It can be used for larger environments to analyze repository space. I used these codes to analyze differences in size on the repositories at a customer.First check: Restore points in database and compare them to allocated space on repository.$VbrVMs = ((Get-VBRBackup  | Get-VBRRestorePoint)  |select vmname, @{N="Job"; E={$_.getsourcejob().name }}, @{N="Repo"; E={$_.getrepository().name }} , @{N="size"; E={$_.getstorage().stats.BackupSize }})  The output of this one-liner should be the same as properties of disk backups. When total over all this corresponds to used space on repository volumes, everything is OK. [What (else) is new in v11 - IV] PowerShell

One of my favorite new little thinks in v11: Veeam provides a PowerShell module instead of a PowerShell Snapin. Modules are the more modern way compared to Snapins. See here some details about the differences.Here is the list of available Veeam modules in v11: New in v11 are Veeam.Backup.PowerShell and Veeam.Teams.PowerShell. The first one replaces the PowerShell Snapin VeeamPSSnapin in v10. At least in theory, scripts should perform as before. PowerShell should import the new module as soon as one of it's commands is started. Existing scripts will show an error when they try to add the missing Snapin to the session.In the course of this, attention was also paid to the user experience. So there are now defined default fields shown in different commands. See here the output of get-vbrbackup for exampleIn v10 all data fields were shown. Backup destination 3 solutions - NAS SSH same network, VLAN NAS SMB or INTERNET ACL SSH

Hi All,I have 3 destinations for my backup and it’s all in the same network. I would like to secure my last copy of my backup. I have multiple possibility.Second internet connection and qnap sync with ACLQnap backup SSHVLAN and Qnap backup sshWhat do you prefed and for why ?I have 200Mpbs for the second internet connection and my second vlan is on the other building with 100 mbps mpls.I would like to have a backup outside of my first building.Thanks you

[Changed in V11] - Handling of exported and orphaned backups

I see one more change in VBR V11 Beta - the handling of exported backups and of backups with no associated backup job. Exported Backups:Up to V10 exported (disk) backups were put in the section “Disk (imported)”In V11 the exported backups are put in another section - “Disk (VeeamZIP)”. Up to V10 I have seen this section when creating a VeeamZip archive intentionally only. Backups from deleted backup jobs:Backups which were created from deleted backup jobs were put in the section “Disk (Imported)”, too. In V11 there is a new section: “Disk (Orphaned)” I think this describes the status of these backups much better than before.

Create least privilege VBO Azure AD applications without using VBO

Request: SureBackup & Backup Copy Job Awareness

Hi, A feature I believe would be extremely useful would be scheduling SureBackup around the completion of a Backup Copy Job. Backup Copy Jobs aren’t scheduled the same as usual jobs so I understand the additional complexity around this however the reason for my request is simple.One of SureBackup’s primary limitations is Disk IO, if we create a SureBackup job to run after a backup job is complete, a Backup Copy Job could then start consuming IO to transmit this backup to an archive tier, Cloud Connect or to some other secondary repository. This creates contention for IO with SureBackup, impacting the ability to validate virtual machines.A key example of this behaviour is when VMware Tools fails to start within the traditional 30 seconds (I’m aware of registry keys that can amend this behaviour, but it’s just one example). If we could chain either BCJ’s to run after a backup is validated (so we know we’re copying good data firstly) or even inversely whereby we run SureBackup after the c

Migrate VMs using Advanced Cross vCenter Server vMotion

A few days ago @Link State posted how to migrate MS AD-controllers using Veeam Replication. Therefore I thought it would be interesting to get to know the new vSphere Advanced Cross vCenter Server vMotion (XVM).What is Cross vMotion about?First, there is a difference between Cross vCenter Server vMotion (xvMotion) and  Advanced xvMotion. xvMotion was already introduced (and supported) for migration of VMs between vCenters within the same Single-SignOn (SSO) Domain in vSphere 6.0. With Advanced xvMotion it is possible to migrate VMs between vCenters in different SSO Domains!Advanced xvMotion is not completely new. Actually it exists for about 5 years as a fling. [Guide] Active Directory Veeam Replica migration experience

I want to share my experience of an Active directory migration through the VB Replication software related to an Active directory environment 2012 R2 - forest and domain functional level 2012 R2.The customer asked me to migrate 3 Domain controllers from an old  VMware 5.5 to the new VMware 6.5 infrastructure for a technological refresh.Given that the best solution from Microsoft is to create new VMs and promote them Domain Controllers and transfer FSMO roles.That said, there are scenarios like mine, where this type of approach was not possible as it was mandatory to maintain the same FQDN and IP address due to application configuration problems.Microsoft advised against demoting and promoting a DC with a different OS but with the same FQDN and IP, even if my environment was relatively small 3 DC one forest \ domain and not complex it could be done with the metadata cleanup procedure but the customer did not give the approval. So I have adopted the solution of VM replica. Scenario -----

Yes, this feature is not completely new in v11 - but it is a little bit hidden and I never found it before . So maybe it is new for others too. And there is also a cool improvement in v11!This filter is about getting a better overview of jobs and latest status. You can access them at Job-level in console.There you can create your own filtersand select the options you want to seeOptions are self explanatory. After adding a new filter, you can use this filter at Jobs-layer to see all jobs, matching the selected options.Of course you can edit and remove themAll of you, used this filter already may recognize a new options here. It is the possibility to Add this view to the job management tree.Which is a great little thing! When setting this option, filter will be available in left tree view as well!And can be edited there as well

Request: Veeam Website Authentication Improvements

Hi, Hopefully I’m not alone in my wishing of this but I believe that Veeam need to adopt an MFA offering for their sign in systems. The amount of services covered by the Veeam single sign on is increasing and there are some services that would really benefit from the increased security such as the ProPartner portal. Also I’m interested to hear everyone’s experience with the “keep me signed in” setting for Veeam. I don’t find it keeps me signed in longer than a day on average. MFA + keep me signed in for 14/28 days would be awesome improvements this year IMO.

Adobe Flash End of Life

Afternoon, Whilst not directly related to Veeam it’s worth reminding those of you using VMWare in your environments that if you’re using a version of vSphere that requires Flash, you have until the 12th January before Adobe trigger the kill switch preventing Flash from running, permanently. This could also cause you pains if you have plugins that either haven’t been upgraded to HTML5 yet or don’t have feature parity with their Flash counterparts. If you’re not on a version of vSphere that supports HTML5 or you haven’t got all the Flash client features you’re either running an unsupported version or you’re extremely out of date on your patching and haven’t got full feature parity yet. Full information here

VSS Error with File to Tape Backup "Shadow copy provider vetoed the operation"

Hello community,I have an issue with a file to tape backup in combination with the usage of VSS.I have to copy the files of the RMAN Backups to tape. The backup files of the RMAN and SAP plugins are not recognized as backup Jobs with the tape jobs, so I have to copy them as files and not as jobs.The RMAN backups are running 24/7 - so there are some open files every time the copy job runs. And therefore I have activated the usage of VSS in the file to tape backup job.Every time the job runs an VSS error is given - "Shadow copy provider vetoed the operation"I did not find useful information to this error.Does anyone have some idea why VSS is not working properly? A reboot did not help. On the drive is enough free space (around 62,5 TB free of 105 TB total).

[What (else) is new in v11 - II] High priority Jobs

It is new in v11, but I do not have much detailed information about it.When you create or edit a backup job, you can enable High priority.The idea is to use this option to make clear this is an important job. So it can be started before less important jobs are started. It is not about job performance, it is about start time. Makes perfect sense to me! Under certain circumstances this feature will make job scheduling easier.At first this seems to be available for Backup and Replication jobs.
