Veeam v12 Hidden Nuggets (Features) You May Not Have Known About

I'm sure you all have heard about a lot of great features Veeam has added to its latest release like - ability to backup directly to Object Storage instead of the need to use SOBR tiers, choice to use PostgreSQL as your VBR configuration database, introduction of VeeaMover technology to move Backup files to new jobs or Repositories, increased security such as Multi-Factor Authentication, and many others. But there are quite a few features in Veeam v12 you may not know about. I'll be sharing what some of those are in this post PostgreSQL - AAIPAs mentioned above, Veeam now gives you the choice to use PostgreSQL for your VBR configuration database. This removes some limitations, such as the SQLExpress 10GB size limit as well as some performance limitations. But, did you know Veeam now includes PostgreSQL as an application-aware image processing (better known as AAIP) option? Missing feature in V12

Hi allAfter working already for more than 2 months with the new version of VBR, I must say it’s great with all new features and changes.But I must being honest, there is a feature that I’m missing that is not available anymore after the upgrade…What am I missing after the upgrade?For a new backup copy-job (not the existing after upgrading) it is not possible to define certain static VMs in a backup copy-job anymore. You have to select an existing primary backup job or repository.I must be honoust, it’s better than before, now we can change between immediately and periodically backup-copy jobs without the need to create a new backup-copy job.All good and even better than before, but…. Why I need this frequently?Normally I always create 1-to-1 backup copy jobs to primary backup jobs, so normally everything is OK and not needed, but there is 1 exception to the rule!Normally we always used periodically backup copy jobs with statically defined VMs in the job for backup copy jobs connected t

Hi Folks, I like to travel in local style while in new cities. Taxi and Uber rides for me are the same everywhere, but train, bus and feet always provide a different experience. How apply 3-2-1 backup rule with Veeam for Azure

Understanding Veeam Application Aware

We know that Veeam Backup & Replication can back up virtual machines. This is one of the main functions of Veeam and it has the most features and options that we can configure. Normally, when we are starting in the backup area and taking the first steps in data protection, one of the features that ends up going unnoticed is Application Aware.So, application Aware is a function that we can configure in our backup jobs. It allows us to consistently create backup. Consistent Backup But after all, what is consistent backup?By default Veeam Backup & Replication does not perform your backups consistently. This occurs because a default configured backup job does not process a server's application logs. We must remember that Veeam backs up servers through snapshots taken in the virtualization environment. As a result, Veeam ends up not communicating directly with the operating system of each of these virtual machines. This causes Veeam to consider and perform these backups inconsistent

Veeam Backup Enterprise Manager Rest API (v1.4) Getting the job log data

Hi All,I’m a Veeam newbie, doing some development work with the rest API. Using the REST api endpoint: /api/query?type=BackupJobSession I can get a list of backup job sessions. Within that I get the link to get the JobReference information. That's all fine, but what I need to get is the job log data: Is this information available via the api? Thanks,Tim.

VMware VCP-DCV 2023 Study Guide on vSphere 8

Happy Tuesday to the Community! In January VMware released an updated VCP-DCV 2023 Exam Blueprint for vSphere 8. It came out in good timing, at least for me, for a couple reasons. First, I wanted to get my DCV certification up to date, since for the past 2 years was not able to because the exam version on Pearson had stayed the same since I last took the vSphere 7 version in April 2021. Second, I had a long several week recovery period at home the past 2 months so it gave me plenty of time to review all (most) of VMware's vSphere 8 User Documentation and update my VCP-DCV 2021 Study Guide to 2023.As some of you know, I've been creating various certification Study Guides for close to 15 years. I started making them for my benefit to help me in my certification preparation studies. M365 Sharepoint Backup - 404 error

Hi there, I run an MSP and have just started to get get familiar with Veeam products. The community editions are fantastic.I’ve setup some Sharepoint jobs which are now working, but get a 404 error on a sharepoint file which highlights the job with a warning. https://xxx.sharepoint.com/All Users Shared/_catalogs/masterpage/v4.master A few questions if you don’t mind.How can I exclude the path / file or supress the error When SP backups are running - (Physical machine with CPU i7 4.0, 32Gb) spikes and holds 100% for long periods of time - is this normal? e.g. SP has about 30k objects Memory can go to 5Gb-15Gb - will it use as much as it can? I had some 429 or throttling issues, but adding more applications fixed it issueThank you very much,DP

Veeam 11 on Server 2012 R2 and SQL Server 2008 to V12 Server 2019

I previously posted about upgrading to Server 2019 here:My plan was to go ahead and upgrade to V12 then spin up a Server 2019 box, attach my vmdk’s and restore my config. My issue is that V12 does not support the version of SQL Server I’m on 2008. So, here is my question: What is the best upgrade path?Option 1In place upgrade of SQL Server to 2012 In place upgrade to V12 Spin up new Veeam Backup Server with V12 and on Server 2019 and SQL 2019 Migrate database Attach vmdk’s with backups Restore configOption 2Skip the in place backups and spin up new Backup Server on 2019 and SQL 2019 Migrate database attach vmdk’s restore config from Veeam 11 backupOr if you have a better upgrade path please let me know.

Pre-freeze and post-that scripts throwing error

Hi all,I have a VM running on Hyper-V 2016, its a Ubuntu 20.04.6 with MariaDB installed.So I defined a (cold) pre-freeze.sh and and post-thaw.sh and tested both in /tmp directory, it will work as expected when done with sudo, under the specified user. However when the backup job does that, it throws an error.
