Using Linux VBR VMware proxies with a .local AD domain name

I am not sure if this has been posted somewhere before but I thought I would post my experience of setting up Linux proxies for our VMware backups and the one issue I ran into. I deployed a couple of Ubuntu 22.04 VMs, as I will be using hot-add for the VM backups. I added them to the VBR server and created a test backup of one VM. First backup attempt and I got this error:Error: Cannot get service content. Soap fault. Temporary failure in name resolution Detail: 'getaddrinfo failed in tcp_connect()', endpoint: 'https://vc.domain.local:443/sdk' SOAP connection is not available. Connection ID: [vc.domain.local]. Failed to create NFC download stream. Veeam Certified Architect 2022 - Achieved & Unlocked

 It took two tries, but I completed the Veeam Certified Architect (VMCA) certification exam.  While taking it twice was not my ideal way to pass the exam, I found the newest version of the exam much easier to handle, including the setup and much better than the initial exam release for v1.  Below are my thoughts on the exam itself and things you can prepare before you book it. Training Requirements If you are new to Veeam exams, there is a requirement for taking the courses before you site the exams for both VMCE and VMCA.  While I had the VMCAv1 already, and I didn’t need to sit in the class, I did nonetheless.  I am thrilled I sat the course as it was a complete overhaul of the v1 course and a much better way to learn is primarily hands-on.   You can read my course review here -Veeam Certified Architect 2022 - Course ReviewFurther, each is now a “versioned” exam for each year - in this case, VMCA 2022, with versioning done on an annual basis.  Each exam will need to be independently

Veaam Replica- Orignal VM doesnt shutdown

Service is not starting after importing a certificate

I tried to add my certificate according to this page: https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backup/hyperv/import_tls_pfx.html?ver=120Now VeeamBackupSvc service is not starting showing 1064 error and obviously I can’t use Console to create new self-signed certificate as a workaround. It’s B&R version 10a so I cannot Repair installation - there’s no such option in the installer.How can I fix this?

After patching, does updating components require reboot?

After patching our VBR v11 to the latest 2023 patch due to the latest CVE reported, I’m asked to "Select Servers to update….”.Some of those servers in the list are production. Does this process require a reboot on those servers?Can I wait for a bit (days until a team decides when to reboot the aforementioned servers) and hope that no backups will be impacted if I don’t update right now? RegardsO

Encryption At Rest Amazon S3 and Disk

Veeam Backup & Recovery 9.5 (VMWare)When setting up my Backup Jobs. “I Enable backup file encryption.” If I am correct this would mean that the file is “Encrypted at Rest” on the backup disk.After 30 days I move this to a Amazon S3 Bucket. I have set up the Capacity Tier to “Encrypt data uploaded to object storage”. Is the Backup “Encrypted at Rest” in the S3 Bucket or do I need to turn on disk Encryption in Amazon?Is there some documentation that explains the above scenario?

Multiple Tape Servers Managing Single Multi-Drive Library

Anyone have a need for this:Currently customers have 2 options when connecting a Tape Server to a Tape Library1: Physical Tape Server: attached to the Library/FC2: Multiple Virtual Tape Servers: partitioning the tape library so each Tape Server (VM) will see only select drives, and slots.Either way would maximize the throughput of data transference. Enable backup file encryption

I have a quick question regarding enabling backup file encryption. I would like to start using this option, but not clear on how it is being used once it is enabled.It appears that Veeam B&R continues to use the selected encryption password (in my case loss protection is disabled) during backups and restores.If someone were to gain access to the NAS that I am backing up to and attempted to restore a VM, they would need to have the password to restore the VM or guest files correct?If I do a test file level restore from an encrypted VM, I am not prompted to enter a password during the restore process.Thank you in advanceDon

How to verify Backup Accounts are being used

I recently added 4 new “Backup Accounts” to my O365 Organization to assist in a throttling issue I ran into earlier with running my whole organization backup job with no additional Backup Accounts.The Backup Accounts show as Configured with a green check mark.I started my regular whole organization backup but I don’t know how to verify that the added Backup Accounts are doing their job. Do I just look in the Veeam.Archiver.Proxy or Veeam.Archiver.Shell log files found under C:\ProgramData\Veeam\Backup365\Logs?

How to manually install Agent to be used with Console

When I manually install Windows agent, it installs with GUI, thus I’m able to perform backups from that particular PC. But I need Agent to perform backups from B&R Console installed elsewhere. When I create the backup job from the Console, it makes a rescan of the PC with Agent installed, then does some ‘MSI packet repair’. So the Agent’s GUI disappears and Agent ‘transforms’ to the version compatible with Console.My question here is how can I at once install Agent to be used with Console? Is there some key can be used with MSI packet to directly install Consol-aware version of Agent?

Best way to replicate Veeam Backup Repository Off-Site

Hi EveryoneLooking for an advice on the best way to keep backup repository data replicated to off-site for redundancy.The setup is: 2x hardened Linux repositories each on Synology NAS.At the moment the backups are copied using backup copy jobs, however it would not copy all of the backup data chain, just backups created after the creation of the backup copy job.I would like to keep both repositories in full sync in case on of them is lost because of the disaster.

BSOD: "What failed: VeeamVolumeCT.sys"

This is a reproducible BSOD caused by a veeam software driverI know this is strange, but, so far, this happens on two machines in my home lab.1. windows 11 laptop - running VAgent - 6.0.2.10902. windows server 2022 - running VBR - 12.0.0.1420 P20230718Every time I plugged in my Kindle into the USB port, Windows does a BSODTo be honest, I am very dependent on my Kindle. My old model died, just got the new one and every time I plug it in, my machine hard crashes with BSOD, on every machine I have at home.What does the .sys file do, Is there a way to disable that .sys driver, is there a temporary workaround, anything?Please Help, David

[Quick Tip] Nimble Storage Integration VM Recovery

Just wanted to share a VM recovery tip with you all I recently discovered when needing to recover a VM no longer being processed by a VBR Backup Job it was in due to Deleted VM Maintenance Schedule. To assist with my recovery, you have to be utilizing Storage Integration technology with Veeam. My specific environment uses Nimble Adaptive Flash Arrays, so be sure to understand how your Storage Vendor’s snapshot technology works before assuming my “tip” will apply to your environment. Let’s assume you’re backing up VMs with vSphere Tags and during tag maintenance you mis-apply a tag, or forget to (re) apply a tag to a VM needing to be backed up. Or maybe you use vSphere “containers” to back up your VMs (i.e. Datastores, VM Folders), and you mistakingly move a VM out of the Container and the VM is no longer getting backed up. As a good Backup Admin does, such that you are, you review your VBR jobs daily to verify they succeeded: BOOM! Well done, Backup Admin!   But, you weren’t being as t

Pre-Job Scripts not working

I did a lot of testing with B&R 12 already and I learned a lot so far. But yesterday I ran into a new problem. I have my Backup Server which runs Veeam B&R 12 as domain administrator (using windows authentication to open and run Veeam). Then I have a backup repository on an other machine in my LAN. This machine is equiped with a Tandberg RDX drive. I run full backup jobs every day on these rotating drives. The job shall delete all backups on the disk and run a fresh full backup. This does not work for some reason. So I delete the RDX disks manually (via Windows scheduler) and considered this could be done with a Veeam Pre-Job-Script too. Well, it wont work. I use psexec64.exe to delete content on the machine with the RDX drive. The scipt (.cmd) I wrote works fine under my admin account. No problems when i launch it in cmd or simply double-click it. Script does what it shall do. For some reason this script does not work as Pre-Job-Script. I belive its a problem with a lack of pr
