Apparently I knew all of the linux commands...and I’m not really a linux guru by any means but guessed well on a few of them. Also didn’t realize that I can do malware scanning in a SureBackup job until now.... Scored a 39121 which I think is decent? I see a bunch of folks scored higher, including @JonahMay. How about the rest of y’all?https://labwarz.veeam.com/
@Rick Vanover was not alone at the VeeamON Update, but on his jacket there was a pin with our legendary cat 🤣
LabWarz is backup on VeeamOnUdate 2022! Have you ever tried this challenge?https://labwarz.veeam.com/event/veeamon-update
I have used both. Internal SQL express, external SQL server, SQL server in an Always ON cluster replicated to our DR site. All 3 worked great, I have never noticed a difference in performance, and never hit the limits. Here are my questions about SQL and Veeam.Has anyone here ever hit the SQL Express limits?Has anyone here ever installed a full blown SQL instance on their Veeam server? Did this make much difference than an external SQL server? We have a DB admin, so using external is pretty easy for me, but I really have no clue when I'll outgrow SQL Express. I suppose I can change it up in V12 as well with the new option.
Nowadays a lot customers are using M365 and that’s a good choice! What are the most important components of this SaaS solution :Exchange online Sharepoint Online Teams Onedrive for Business Wow, instead of having your data on-premise we have it now in the public cloud! Is that a good idea?Yes, it’s running on a big high available infrastructure, always available and everywhere available whether we are at the office or at home.We are rid of upgrades – maintenance – security patches, just pay on a monthly base and Microsoft does the rest for us.True?Absolutely not !!!Hmm, what do we still have to do as a customer?Taking care of the backups of all your data in M365 !!!Is Microsoft not doing this for us, in our monthly fee?Not at all! That is one of the biggest misconceptions : Microsoft is not taking care of everything. In short : the customer is responsible for their own data in M365.Microsoft is not taking care of your data and is not taking backups and will never restore your data if need
Dear concern, we have one server where we had a previous version (9.5 U4b) of Veeam running for some tests on. However we’ve never really used it until now. That time veeam was removed from the system however it seems not completely. While trying to install version 11 on this particular server, we are now getting an error message, telling that usage of DB for VeeamBackup is not possible as it has been created with an older version of veeam. Indeed there are still two DB services running. What is the best way to get this clean as we will use this server to run as our B/R server in the future but of course on main latest. The goal is to have a clean installation of veeam 11 now in order to reduce future problems in case of any migration is necessary for a new version. thanks and best regards Stephan
Today I have a server on Debian 8, and veeam does not back it up, where can I see which versions of Debian Veeam supports?
Hi, quick question. We are moving to M365 for email. Our Veeam infrastructure will remain on-premise. Per Veeam literature, says that I can backup my 365 mailboxes to any location, inclusive of on-premises. If we backup our 365 mbxs back down to our local infrastructure, will there be any egress bandwidth costs assessed by Microsoft? So if I have 1TB database now on-prem, and we move that to M365, for that very first backup, should I expect Microsoft to assess some bandwidth costs for that 1TB pull? Moreover, for any subsequent backups where presumably only deltas from the prior are processed, will I see transport costs there too?Thank you in advance.Cheers.

Hi,Task is to backup our customers Sharepoint365 to Azure storage.Customer is without on premise solutions except bunch of laptops, no mailboxes are used (mail is hosted elsewhere) , so plan is to use “Veeam backup for MS 365” from Azure marketplace, some blob storage and licenses of course. My question is : if i backup only Sharepoint how much licences do i need?Regards, Drazen

For my first Veeam Community post, I thought I would share with you all something I’ve been doing for over a decade - an exam prep Study Guide; this one being for VMware VCP-DCV 2021. For those who haven’t followed me over the years, I started creating these “outlines”, i.e. Study Guides, for my own benefit to help me with tech cert exam prep. I then thought others in the community may benefit using them, so I decided to share them online. I generally post them on Twitter, so if you’d like to follow me, you can do so from here. When reviewing the VMware ‘Blueprint’ for the DCV 2021 exam as compared to the 2020 exam, I was initially overwhelmed by the additional content for 2021. As I dove deeper into the 2021 exam Objectives, it turns out a lot of them were similar to what was asked to know for the 2020 exam, so it wasn’t too bad to review. As with most of my Guides, I enjoyed learning about the new tech VMware implemented with vSphere 7 - e.g. Identity Federation & Lifecycle Manage

When you start your journey to becoming a Legend or Vanguard the road ahead can seem lonely and even frighteningMuch work must be done and in the beginning it is easy to become distracted by things on the side and loose focus You need to be careful not to break any rules or run into areas of dangerYou will cross many work rivers and then face a steep climbYou might be tempted to turn back and avoid the effortYou might think that you are almost there and then face yet another challengeDon’t let yourself feel caged inWhen you finally become a Legend or Vanguard the reward is in reaching new heights and seeing things in a different and omnipotent way!Veeam treats you like Royalty and you feel as if you are finally in the Castle that you deserve!#veeam100summit
Hi there,I’ve created a backup repo in my Veeam for 365 backups and also specified an extent to offload to Azure:Since that’s live I have no backup data on my local disks other than some sort of a cache… looks like everything has been pushed to Azure. Is there a way to still have local backups and then offload to Azure like we do with Veeam B&R ?Thank you.

Hi there! I would like to share with all of you this awesome tool called Apache GuacamoleApache Guacamole is a clientless remote desktop gateway. It supports standard protocols like VNC, RDP, and SSH.I use it a lot to connect to my HomeLab, instead of enabling a VPN and open few RDP and SSH, I use my Navigator to connect to my Servers, no matter where Im connecting from (Ipad, Macbook, Raspberry Pi, Windows, etc.)For me is very useful, you can add MFA, SSL Cert, etc. very flexible and friendly. Here you will find the Installation files, instructions and useful information.Just a few screenshots! These are from my home lab. In another post, I will share with you a basic deploy and configuration, over vsphere. Home access Connections list Windows Server 2016 RDP over HTML5!SSH over HTML5!Windows Server + other tabs on topenjoy!.
The Veeam Availability Suite v12 is fast approaching, when it arrives, you’ll be able to utilise a Postgres database for VBR and VBEM, will you be using this? Or sticking to your tried and true SQL Server? Further, do you use a standard edition of SQL or higher? Or still using Express? It’d be interesting to hear the split of the people the intend to move to Postgres and what they’re coming from!
Recently I needed to restore a SAP Oracle Database and I received this error below: After open a ticket with Veeam support I discover that this error has relation with SAP Oracle Databases specifically. The solution was a fix on Veeam Explorer for Oracle. After applying it my restore ran successfully. However, it doesn't have a public KB about this error and only support Veeam has access for this fix.So, if any of you get this kind of error, I recommend open a ticket with Veeam to solve your problem as soon as possible.

This is part two of the blogpost. Part one can be found here: SOBR Archive Tier – Explained and Configured – Part 1 of 4 | Veeam Community Resource HubIn this part will will discuss the reason behind having different tiers and how they appear within Microsoft Azure. Hot or Cool? – what’s it all aboutS3 storage or blob storage as it is also called is offered by the hyperscalers in various flavors that basically differ in speed of access and the cost charged for the in- or egress of data as well as its storage. We can generally decide between hot, cool and archive for Microsoft Azure. This translates to Standard and Standard-IA (=infrequently accessed) with Amazon AWS. The concept behind is the same. In the following I will stick to the terminology as of Azure. The capacity tier of the SOBR allows us to leverage either “hot” or “cool” storage tiers from the portfolio the hyperscaler offers. Both tier modes have the same access methodology (API) and the main difference is:Hot: Higher stora
Hello guys , I was wondering if one of you know how Veeam selectionne a proxy when you leave the default option in automatic.Cause I have a remote site with a proxy deploy on my standalone ESX during the job is not my remote proxy that is used but my local one, so I let you imagine the backup performance. In my memory Veeam classifies the Proxies in groups : 1.SAN, 2.HotAdd and 3.NBD.Group 1 having the higher priority. If all proxy in group 1 are busy (max tasks used), Veeam switches to group 2. Group 3 is only used if groups 1 and 2 have no responding proxies. But in my case the remote proxy do absolutely nothing...Of course I changed the default settings to selectionne only this proxy in my job, but I curious to know the exact process.

Hi guys, first of all, hope this is not a duplicated post.I would like to discuss about best options for DR solutions of VMware on-prem environments.Working for a small-medium SP, I can use our datacenters as target of Veeam Cloud Connect replicas.Sometimes it is difficult to make a large amount of resources (cpu, ram, storage, bandwidth..) available to the customer in a short time.Furthermore, in my opinion it is not the best approach in terms of cost optimization and resource efficiency. One solution might be to use public clouds as a target, but using VMware the options are narrow. What do you think about it?
