Hi, I recently updated vcentre and had to create a new backup task as the old one was no longer working. However, I noticed that veeam backup created many orphan files as a result of each backup and I have to go to vcentre to consolidate these backup. The files are named as MyVM-000001-ctk.vmdk, MyVM-000001.vmdk and it goes on for a while till in my case, 000046. I also note that there was some information displayed - “MyVM has stuck VM snapshot, will attempt to consolidate periodically” I am on veeam backup and replication version 11. This was working well previously before the vcentre upgrade. Thanks in advance.
hello,I’m a little bit confused about application aware processing on veeam, what is it for actually ?, for example, if I have database (MS.SQL) on my source backup, do I have to enable AAP on it , so I can also backup & restore that database. or do I have to install plug-in on source backup ? Thank You
Hello, I am new to using Veeam and in my small laboratory I am testing rotating disks :I have a retention policy of 21 and I have 3 disks (one per week) : If I understand correctly it would be 7 per disk The question is: if I use Forever Forward Incremental when the disk already has 7 points and I connect it again, will it merge the old incremental and save only full backup? Thanks
Hello Community,as part of a hardware refresh project project for a new customer, we are planning on creating a separate /24 VLAN subnet behind the firewall in order to better segment and protect the Production vSphere environment, the new soon to come vSphere DR cluster as well as the Veeam backup fabric as they currently reside in the same flat VLAN and IP subnet where all clients and servers reside (as depicted below):====================================================================================================Currently the Veeam Backup server/primary backup repository is a physical Windows server running Windows Server 2019 with 50TB of local storage. We are planning on moving the Veeam Backup Server to a new dedicated VM hosted on the soon to come vSphere DR cluster and, at the same time, repurpose the primary backup repository hardware into a Veeam Hardened Repository. The main concern here are the 60 or so client computers with the Veeam Agent for Windows. More specifically
We have a job configured in Veeam Plug-in for Rman, version 12, and retention is not working. With this Plugin, we configure everything from the Veeam console, I attach images. The retention is 7 days, the repository is a disk (not tape), a level 0 backup runs on Tuesdays and differential every day. The jobs finish fine, without alerts, but on the seventh day nothing is deleted. Question: do I have to configure something else in Rman? We did not find any more Rman options when configuring the Plugin from the Veeam console. Thank you

I’m migrating my Veeam install to new brand new VM. The original Veeam server is Windows 2019 running Veeam B & R & Veeam ONE. The original install was v11 that was upgraded to v12, currently using MSSQL.The new instance Windows 2022 running a fresh install of only Veeam B & R using Postgres.I’m going through the steps in the Veeam B&R Configuration Restore Wizard when I run into the this error:SSPI authentication failed for user “HOSTNAME\Administrator” I’m using Windows authentication for the Postgres credentials. Has anyone run into a solution for this error?

This blog provides the sizing calculations for the Veeam Plugin used with Oracle and SAP. It outlines the resource requirements on the Source Server, Veeam Repository Server, and Veeam Backup Server.Source Server Specifications:Resource Utilization per Channel:Each channel consumes 1 CPU and 200 MB of RAM.Calculation:# of Channels = CPU cores required.200 MB * Number of Channels = Total Memory Required.Veeam Repository Server Specifications:Resource Utilization:Every 5 channels require 1 CPU core and 1 GB of RAM.Veeam Backup Server Specifications:Resource Requirement:For every 1 million backup files, the server requires 15 GB of RAM.Dependency:The requirement is based on the number of backup files generated by Oracle and SAP. Example Calculation: Oracle Server Configuration: 12 Channels = 12 CPU Cores 200 MB * 12 = 2400 MB Memory Veeam Repository Server: 12 Channels / 5 = 2.4 CPU Cores 2.4 GB Memory Data Transfer Speed: Channel Capacity: Each channel transfers 120 – 150 MB/s, app
We been instructed to change our environment from a tape library system to a ejectable tape. We can fit a set of our most critical data on a single LTO-8 tape, and have it changed daily by our Colo. The tape library will be maintained for the “nice to have” data. The basic goal is to be able to restore critical data with nothing remaining of the VEEAM install but a tape and a printed copy of the encryption password. To table top this: We would like to have a single daily tape that has all of our incremental and synthetic fulls written to it. There is plenty of room for this as the existing repo has only 6.4TB used in it. The whole repo directory simple needs moved to tape daily when the job is complete. Q1: Is the basic goal here achievable?Q2: What type of tape job can ensure that both the increments and the synthetic fulls make it onto every days tapes? TIA
Restoring a database can often be a straightforward process, but complexities arise when you're working on the same server as the active original database. A common issue encountered in such scenarios involves the database's inability to start due to conflicts with BCT file access. This blog post is designed to guide you through resolving this issue when using Veeam Explorer for Oracle database restoration. Understanding the Problem:When you restore a database with a different name on the same server where the original database is still active, you might encounter an error where the newly restored database fails to start. This issue often stems from conflicts with accessing the BCT file. The BCT file, which is crucial for database operations, might still be in use or locked by the original database, leading to access conflicts. Step-by-Step Solution:To successfully restore your database without encountering the BCT file access issue, follow these steps: Step1: - Just restore(and not
When researching backup strategies, I think I understand that Veeam creates “snapshots” which are backups, which need to be restored, which can take time… I.e. if my OS drive fails, I need to boot into a Preboot Environment (PE) or Recovery Environment (RE), then start the restore process, which might take hours. But in theory, with a separate hard drive with a cloned version of the OS, I could swap the drive, and boot up into a working OS installation in approximately 5 minutes. But I can’t find any explanation if Veeam offers the ability to create an image or clone of a full drive and or partition, and I am asking if there is a reason for this omission?I have read on other websites that the built-in Windows 7 create system image “feature” is not to be trusted, it is old and no longer supported. Therefore it seems like an Imaging / Cloning feature would be important to make Veeam a complete protection solution.Otherwise I need to buy some other software to get an automated imaging / cl
Hello guys,One of my client can’t used the migrate to production feature. Is there some prerequisites? I miss maybe something :DThanks.
I tried to add my certificate according to this page: https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backup/hyperv/import_tls_pfx.html?ver=120Now VeeamBackupSvc service is not starting showing 1064 error and obviously I can’t use Console to create new self-signed certificate as a workaround. It’s B&R version 10a so I cannot Repair installation - there’s no such option in the installer. How can I fix this?

Hi All,I am wondering if there is a way to schedule a Full Backup (Acrive or Synthaatic) to be every 10 days ? instead of weekly or monthly bases. My goal is to have daily incrementals and full backup every 10 days so I played with all schedule options but couldn't achieve it so I feel I am missing something or this is not possible on veeam as I used to do it in other vendors.Let me know if this configuration is possible in VBR.Thanks
Hello, I am getting this error message:Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows is unable to open backup files created by Veeam Backup & Replication.I want to restore a physical machine. Backup and USB boot stick were created under Veeam Communtty edition 10.
Hello, Thanks,I need to restore a backup, but need that date/time to match the date/time that the backup was taken. For example, I have a .vmb, .vbk, and recovery agent isoNeed to restore full backup from 10/07/2023 into a hyperv vm.But no matter what I try, after restore and reboot, the date is not set to 10/07/20231. I have setup the hyperv vm not to use “Time Synchronization”2. disable network access, so not ability to contact NTP server.3. As soon as the vm boots, but before starting the restore, i open a command prompt and manually set date to 10/07/20234. then I run the recovery, reboot into the OS and the date is wrong.Any suggestions please?
UPDATE (Feb 2024):It was brought to my attention recently that some of the cmdlets have changed in v12.x that may have broken one or more of the above scripts. I’ve rewritten the one that was pointed out (Veeam Agent Jobs) and tested to make sure it works. I can’t vouch for the others, but will try to get around to updating them all (if needed) and posting the updates here. Just be sure if you’re on 12.x or newer that you do thorough checks to confirm it works in a safe environment before attempting to run anything in production.------------------------------------------------------Hello again, everyone! Just sharing another useful PowerShell script to enable/disable Health Checks for multiple jobs. It’s handy whenever you have a large number of jobs which all need to be adjusted and would take a significant amount of time to do so. Usually I wouldn’t share such a short script, but the way to locate and adjust this particular option in a job via PowerShell can be a little confusing if
I’m setting up a QNAP TVS-871 which has 4 x 1Gb interfaces. I just watch this video about performance related to different types of link aggregation. My switch (setup by someone else) is set for LACP was planning on using 802.3ad… but now I’m not sure.Does VEEAM gather the files and make them appear as 1 file transfer or can it transfer multiple at a time? Will link aggregation protocol make a difference for VEEAM?Can someone help me understand because I’m sort of new and working on a live office network of 30 people so I can’t play around too much.
Good afternoonI am having the following error when running a tape backup job [CTapeRepositoryStorageRelation] Cannot find record in table TapeStorages for tape storage Thank you very much in advancegreetingsMarcelo
