Anybody tried Proxmox?

Hi Everyone, There are times that I think that my head has been stuck in the sand when it comes to technology. Maybe I just don’t read enough 😅. While forcing myself to consider black Friday/cyber Monday upgrades for my beleaguered home lab I stumbled upon Proxmox. Debian based KVM level 1 Hypervisor. Since I may go the route of purchasing an old powerful desktop I need something (free) that can help be getting vms’ running. Esx free won’t let me use API’s for Veeam backups anyways and I don’t know of any ways of getting a full working license other than time trial or attempting to become a vexpert (please correct me if I am wrong) I wanted to go with something else. I could just build KVM on top of a linux distribution myself but it would be nice to have something ready to go that has a community forum available.Have any of you used Proxmox? and if so what are your thoughts about it?https://www.proxmox.com/en/cheers

How to migrate Veeam B&R (v12) installation to a new server?

Hello, I will need to migrate my Veeam Backup & Replication (v12) installation to a new server because my current server is 2012 R2 and it’s not supported anymore as you know.My new server (virtual) will be a Windows 2016 and I want to migrate my Veeam B&R install the proper way in order to avoid loosing any “block change tracking” or things like that and have my backups and replications running the same as before on the new server because I have around 25 TB of data to backup and replicate and if Veeam needs to re-read the entire volume (instead of “change blocks”) that would be 48+ hours lost! 😵 Thank you!!

Using an Asustor NAS? Shut it down immediately!

Hi everyone, Quick one here due to time sensitivity. Deadbolt, the ransomware that has previously been utilised to attack QNAP NAS devices, has been used to attack Asustor NAS devices. Looks like there’s an exploit in the EZ Connect system, so advice is currently to disconnect the NAS from the internet and disable this service on the NAS. https://www.tomshardware.com/news/if-you-own-an-asustor-nas-shut-it-down-now The official Reddit mega thread has been pouring through the services that could’ve exploited the NAS whilst Asustor are looking into this. Even Asustor’s live demo page got impacted! Preparing backup proxy VMWare backup proxy for hard disk 1 ( nbd)

Backup Job Error: The credentials supplied to the package were not recognized

Hello guys! It’s the first time I got this error message in one of my backup jobs. VeeamPN has been discontinued!

Hey everyone, Was browsing the R&D forums (I know, I’m a traitor!), and discovered this post from Gostev announcing the end of VeeamPN!https://forums.veeam.com/post467237.html#p467237 This caught me by surprise as I felt like more noise would’ve been made around it, maybe I was one of the only people that used it, but I remember once dealing with a managed network that was refusing to integrate additional routes to perform SureReplica at a remote site, so I used VeeamPN to create a tunnel between the sites and create my own route that way! 😆 So long VeeamPN, you were awesome. 🍻

Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 proxy disconnects and proxy Windows service dies on every backup. Anyone else seen this?

 I had M365 backups working flawlessly and then needed to switch repositories. Somewhere in there, something broke. So I ended up removing the repo, removing Veeam M365 backup, cleaning up all app residue and re-installing from scratch, since this was a new, small instance and I just wanted it to be clean.Now, every time I try to run a backup against the same recreated Org, the job will connect to the org, start resolving the objects, it finds the objects to backup but never actually receives any data. Shortly thereafter (30 seconds or so), the proxy service crashes and the portal shows status “disconnected” and Details “Job was interrupted”.I have even tried putting it on a different VM and the same behavior persists. The only element that I haven’t recreated is the O365 implementation. I have also recreated the Azure apps/certs each time as well.The logs don’t seem to show much. Below is the end of the latest log as well as the console view and some event logs. I am kind of at a loss

Issue with SMTP Notification Emails After Update to Version 12

I've encountered an issue after updating to Veeam Version 12 and was hoping someone might have come across a similar problem or can provide some guidance.**Problem Description:** After the update, I am unable to send notification emails. I consistently receive the error message: "Unable to connect to SMTP server because of invalid credentials or connection settings." I am certain of my credentials, having double-checked multiple times.Steps Taken:1. I've tried all configuration variants using both ports 587 and 465.2. When using port 465, I am able to apply the settings, but an error then displays.3. With port 587, the error surfaces after sending the test message.**Mail Server Error Logs:** From the logs, the following sections raised concerns:* `SASL login authentication failed`* `TLS library problem: error:14094412:SSL routines:ssl3_read_bytes:sslv3 alert bad certificate`The error regarding the TLS library is particularly concerning.

Issues of Veeam backup on physical machine

Hello everyone,I Have been learning about veeam products and recently for practice, I  setup a windows server VM  & installed veeam backup & replication in that. I was trying to backup a physical machine and the backup job failed. I feel the reason is  veeam is not able to identify details such as hostname and credentials. I looked various documents related to this but still I am missing out something. I even installed veeam agent on physical machine during initial setup. Can anyone help me out with this?

Issue with NAS backup to object storage at iDRIVE

Hi guysI’m having a problem that I can’t seem to resolve.Perhaps someone already have had the same error or experience.Environment :It’s not on a production environment, but on my personal lab I’m using NAS backup of a big file-share to an on-premise repository without any issues I’m using a secondary copy of this backup to another repository without any issues I want to have next to that also a secondary copy of this backup to object storage in the cloudSince version 12 of VBR that is possible, before it was only possible to use object storage for the archive backup of a NAS-backup.I’m having an account at iDRIVE for E2 Immutable object storage.With that latest copy I’m having an issue that I can’t seem to resolve.Because it’s on my lab with my NFR license, I can’t create a support case for this 🤣 Issue : The job start, but after a while I’m getting the following error :  HTTP exception: WinHttpReceiveResponse_callback_timeout: 12152: The server returned an invalid or unrecognized re

Questions on Homelab setup

I wish to build a new HOMELAB. Here is a guide and many others I found on Reddit.- How is your lab setup? What would you recommend? Main virtualisation solution would be VMware (would need multiple hosts here). I would also have HyperV and Proxmox VE within this environment. Unable to make backup with VBR11 of Debian

Hi, I have VBR11. Have added Debian vm to Physical Infrastructure. Agent and other linux components were installed successfully. Added account with sudo privilege. When I try to create backup of Entire Machine/Volume or even File Based I get error : Error: Failed to execute agent management command startBackup. table JobSessions has no column named end_time Unable to run query. which leads me to nothing. What seems to be a problem?

I'm Sure You've Head, But If Not...Watch Your SD Cards! with vSphere 7U2!!

For those who don’t go to the VMware forums (another ‘communities’ based vendor website) often, there was finally a VMware employee who somewhat unofficially acknowledged the issue of running ESXi on SD cards, specifically with vSphere 7U2. I say U2 because v7 and v7U1c, of which I both have run on DELL IDSDMs, runs flawlessly; and has for the past year.To read a little more on the issue, you can review the VMware Communities post here. The issue, it seems, has to do with their newly formatted boot partitions. But honestly, I think the mishap (Hosts disconnecting/hanging) is mostly due to a new vmkusb driver. VMW is currently working on a fix, though they’re really recommending orgs to start using ‘high-performance’ storage (i.e. disks) for the boot  device moving forward. All that to say is, if you haven’t upgrade to 7U2, I recommend not to. If you’re running your boot on disk, I think you’ll be fine.
