Hello, First of all Happy New Year! I have been working on a veeam implementation report using the AsBuiltReport framework created by Tim Carman @tpcarman see report here: Project Report: https://github.com/rebelinux/AsBuiltReport.Veeam.VBR Sample Report: https://technomyth.zenprsolutions.net/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/Veeam-VBR-As-Built-Report.html Now the important thing, I would like to add to the report if the backup server is configured with an Enterprise Manager. Does anyone know if there is a way in powershell to identify which Enterprise Manager the Backup server is connected to? Thanks in advance!
Just saw this VMworld session of Dell/EMC’s PowerProtect backup solution:Protect Your Virtual Infrastructure with Drastically Less Disruption [SEC2764S]Then I read this article about Transparent Snapshot with Dell/EMC in vSphere:https://www.storagereview.com/news/dell-emc-powerprotect-adds-transparent-snapshotsFirst I thought this is a new feature in vSphere 7 U3. But at second glance it is something different. It seems, Dell installs some VIB in the ESXi host. This daemon/service monitors all changed blocks of protected VMs and reports these at backup time. So no vSphere Snapshot is needed.Does anyone knows more about this feature/technology? Am I correct in my assumptions?

I’m using Veeam 11 (11a? not sure how to tell) Community Edition on my home network. Mostly everything is working fine; however, two of five win10 computer agents (188.8.131.5284) in the inventory are showing : Microsoft Windows version installed on this machine is not officially supported by Veeam yet. which is AFAIK is incorrect - both are standard Windows 10 Pro installs (I have never used any dev or pre-release builds). For example, the machine that gave the above is 10.0.19044 N/A Build 1466 which according to this page https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/release-health/release-information is a production release, not a Technical Preview. Where is the issue? How do I convince Veeam that it a production OS? PS, in case you are wondering; the backup still works. The issue is my reporting mechanism… since Veeam reports a Warning due to “Technical Preview”, I keep getting alerts about the issue.
If you are reducing your disks on your VMs be careful as it can cause an error with running Replication. The following KB discusses this and includes a solution -KB4232: Replication job fails with "Cannot replicate disk because its capacity was reduced" (veeam.com)
I recently ran in to an issue where we had a few of our SOBRs offloading to OBS which was added using a Gateway server for access. There was an issue where it told me that we were out of disk space but thinking to myself that cannot be as we have Petabytes of storage for Object.I investigated the logs and even worked with support where we found out the issue was on the GW server which uses the C:\Windows\Temp folder by default to store data before offloading to the Object Store.Well it is nice to see there is now a KB article that shows how this can be fixed in three ways. If you have this issue check it out here - KB4283: Scale-Out Backup Repository Offload task fails with "There is not enough space on the disk" (veeam.com)The options are -Increase the space on the GW server - so your C drive Move to another GW server with more space for C drive Change the VeeamBackupTemp location to another drive with lots of space
We want to restore a SQL Server database within a small window, so that there is minimal downtime for transferring usage from the old database to the new database. With our previous backup software (Backup Exec), we used to restore the full backup and leave the database in recovery mode, then restore the differential backup on top of that, still leaving the database in recovery mode, then restore the transaction logs up to just before the downtime period, still leaving the database in recovery mode, so that, once the downtime commenced, we would only have to restore a couple more transaction log backups to bring the database up-to-date with the source database. We are struggling to find a similar option in Veeam. We have 2 support calls open, one attempting to see if we can use a similar method to the above, and one attempting to see if Instant Recovery is the solution to this.- for the first option, it appears that Veeam cannot append any restores to the original restore - it simply of

Am I the only one who does not like the fact that the Linux Backup/Mount Proxy needs a user that can do a su or sudo on anything?I would love to see the list of commands the Linux Proxy service user is actually using and then I would configure the sudoers list to allow those commands and nothing else.If the service user has the permission to execute any command with sudo, it de facto becomes a second root user, which we would very much like to avoid on any of our Linux boxes!Let me know what you think!
The VMware Converter has failed to convert correctly the virtual disk.- Convert task success.- hd1 size error (vShepere vCenter : 0 / no disk detected (vSphere ESX, General View) / hd1 8 GB (Edit Settings ESX). NB : VMDK= 33 GB, Thick provisionning. As said by “https://hyper-converged.com/2020/03/06/migrate-vm-from-hyper-v-to-vmware-with-veeam-v10/”Veeam 10 can migrate a VM from Hyper-V to VM-ware. Does anyone had this issue and had fixed it with “Instant VM Recovery” of VEEAM 10 ?Is a VEEAM Licence for VMware and for Hyper-V needed ?
I wanted to ask the community on here to get a discussion going about whether using VMs for Veeam is good, bad or indifferent? It is based on a question from the forum here - VM as repo - Veeam R&D ForumsI added my thoughts to this post as I disagree with some of the comments about having to use physical servers as the BP site mentions both physical and virtual. I also work at an MSP and everything we build is virtual for Veeam other than a few tape servers we have which are physical boxes since they perform better this way with direct connect to the FC fabric.Anyway just wanted to see the communities opinions here and not to put one or the other down just thoughts and what everyone is doing now.And go……. 🤣
Good morning, everyone! Quick question. I have a copyjob that is throwing random “No Cloud Gateways available” errors. The odd thing is, it’s the only server that is having the issue and the our cloud connect server is fine. I am not quite sure what is happening between the cloud connect server and that backup server, but I want to get to the bottom of it! What would be the best Veeam log to check for info on that? I can run through the Windows Event Viewer, but I also want to see if any of the Veeam logs can shed some light. You all rock! Thank you so much for being great!
I am curious what languages are used by the community for reporting, monitoring and/or automation. I personally do a lot of scripting with PowerShell. What language is worth learning it?I wish, Veeam will replace their PowerShell Plug-In by a PowerShell module in www.powershellgallery.com.@Kseniya Just a little thing: when embedding code here in the community, PowerShell is no language-option. Maybe this can be added in the future?

Hi all As you all know, Microsoft is deprecating basic authentication from the first of October. So if you are using basic authentication in VBO365, it will no longer work.Personally we never use basic authentication, only modern authentication.Only when the customer is using public folders we are activating the option legacy protocols. What will happen with the backups of public folders after the deprecation of basic authentication when using modern authentication with legacy protocols.I assume that the backups are still working, except for the public folders. Am I correct? If so, what is the solution, alternative?Migrating the public folder to a shared mailbox or sharepoint online, so a backup is than possible? What if the customer still wants to use public folders?I know that Microsoft wants to get rid of public folders and is now in this pushing this 🤔.I already read the article on the Veeam forum, but no real solution or feedback from Microsoft.Public folder backup after October 1st
I recently updated a client from Veeam 11, I think .816 to the latest version available. Everything went as usual as I do these quite often but this one is throwing a pop up that states, "unable to upgrade plug-ins under the current user, please open the console under an account with administrative privilege's:" when I launch Veeam. I am logged in as a local administrator account and have updated this client in the past with no issues.I just click on okay and it opens up like normal. I also checked for any updates to the managed machine and there is upgrade option. This is a stand alone Veeam system with no remote components.I don't think it's going to impact the functionality but will know more after tonight's job run.Appreciate any feedback! Thanks,Poettone!
Hi @all,i am new by veeam. I have installed the community edition and will testing backup. Next week i have a tech demo with a veeam consult for full version. But now i will testing the free funktions, and i have added my S3 Bucket. The connections to Amazon S3 works, but when i will configure a backup job, i cannot choose the s3 Storage as backup destination. It there a limit function for this storage in the communitiy edition? Many thanks forwards Stefan
Production Environment is a four Node VXRail VSAN Cluster. Backup Server is separated on a Physical Machine with local Storage and Backup Jobs are running fine.Want to use SureBackup to proof that my Virtual Machines are could be recovered after been backed up. Setup everything what is needed for SureBackup but the Job went wrong. At the End i figured out that something goes wrong on the vPower NFS which uses Port 1063 and Port 2049. But even i change the Port 1063 to 1058 there is no success.Have someone a clue what ports are needed for VXRail to work?
