SOBR rebalancing with hardened Linux repo - division by zero?

Most of us love and embrace SOBRs as well as hardened Linux repos for obvious reasons.Once in a while a SOBRs shifts out of balance because VBR cannot predict sizes of VMs and especially chains with changes.Therefore, for a non-immutable repo we have ways to rebalance the SOBR: KB3100: Manually moving backup files between Scale-Out Backup Repository extents (veeam.com)V12 will even bring us the conservation of space optimizations here: New in VBR v12: True per-machine backup files - vNote42This though is and will not be an easy task for the hardened Linux repo, as it will prevent files from being moved between the extents. I e.g. currently face a customers SOBR with one extent having 0% free while the others all have more than 80% free...Question is: Did you ever face this challange? How did you solve it? (Build chains from scratch? Disable immutability, reorg files, enable immutabilty?)

Azure data bax restore

We are using azure blob storage with immutable as our Veeam backup immutable backup. (Directly to azure with immutable). now, we are using azure export the blob storage to azure data box. SIEM Alert: User Creation and Deletion Detected on Veeam ONE Server

Our SIEM system (Splunk) has detected a risk event on the Veeam ONE Server, involving the creation and subsequent deletion of a user account: Veeam_6043-4343A67F. This action was performed by the user xxxx (a service account). However, no one within our team is aware of this activity, and we could not locate any corresponding event logs on the OS (Windows Server 2019) or within Veeam ONE.Could you please help us understand the following:Is it possible that Veeam ONE itself creates and deletes such user accounts as part of its internal processes? If so, what scenarios or mechanisms within Veeam ONE could result in this type of event?We need to explain this situation to our Security team to ensure that this activity is not a result of unauthorized access or malicious actions. My Experience Building a 3 node Nutanix CE Cluster Lab

About 2 years ago I decided to try out Nutanix and learn a little about how it worked along with Veeam. Like most people this started with a Google search and several blog posts of others who have deployed Nutanix CE in their home labs, mostly nesting inside their VMware environments to save on necessary hardware. So, why not. I downloaded CE, carved out a VM on my VMware host, went through the steps and before long I had a single node cluster running. I setup a couple small VMs on it, added to my Veeam server, setup backups and backup copy jobs, and was off and running. Over time I left it running and didn’t really think much about it. Occasionally, someone would ask about Veeam capabilities with Nutanix and Cloud Connect, or something else, and I could show them, or test out what they wanted to try, but otherwise just left it running. Not too long ago, Nutanix released CE 2.0, however I waited, no rush to change what was working. Then there was the IT crash heard around the world .

Veeam Backup and Replication 12.3 now has NetApp ONTAP SnapDiff API enabled

VBR 12.3 had a pretty big payload across our alliance partners. One of those is the NetApp with the ONTAP SnapDiff API. This is a native change file tracking capability built into the ONTAP OS (differencing engine). This will help customers reduce the amount of time it takes for a NAS backup with changes to complete. This improvement was highly requested by our customers. It is easy to enable when you are adding an “Unstructured Data source” in VBR see link and figure 1 below. Once enabled, you will see messages in the job log on incremental backups figure 2. Please spread the word to your ONTAP customers. SQL Transaction log backup seems to be failing with "Failed to perform internal backup"

SQL Transaction log backup seems to be failing with "Failed to perform internal backup."We just did a big repair of one of our DBs. When I re-enable the backup job (with SQL transaction log backup), it started failing with the following error. Failed to perform internal backup (DBName): Code = 0x80040e31 Code meaning = IDispatch error #3121 Source = Microsoft SQL Server Native Client 11.0 Description = Query timeout expired COM error: Code: 0x80040e31 We can see data being moved as shown in the Report so is the Transaction Log backup really failing or it is just doing catch up with the large change? I’m sure if we run a full backup or possibly change the log backup interval to longer, this will resolve the error. Thanks.

Limit user for restore

Hello,I will implement Veeam Data Cloud for back up our M365 services such as exchange, onedrive, sharepoint and ms.team and the daily operational will be handled by our backup administrator.I have concern when we backup exchange mailbox, the backup administrator can ‘peek’ all the contents of the mailbox for all users.So can we have separate administrator for daily backup and prevent this user to ‘peek the inbox and in same time assign special user who can restore the mailbox? It’s no problem for this special user can peek’ the mailbox, the special user maybe can our CTO.

Back at the end of July I was able to finally get my Object First OOTBI box taken to one of our datacenters to have it racked, cabled and configured for use. Backup to AWS S3 Glacier - Idiot's Guide

I’m finding it very diffcult to find a configuration guide to setup an SOBR that offloads to AWS S3 Glacier archive tier. I understand the concepts but have no experience with AWS. Does anyone know of any guides that get down to the nuts and bolts of setting up the AWS infrastrcture? As I said, I’m new to AWS so need basics like how to apply permissions to resources (i.e. buckets) for users/groups. I’m looking for something on that level.

Snapshot overflow error when backing up Ubuntu volume

Hi, my first experience backing up a volume on my Ubuntu 20.04.6 LTS Linux machine is resulting in a Snapshot overflow error. I use Veeam B&R Community Edition Build 12.1.2.172. Here are some details:Veaam R&D machine: Dell PowerEdge R7515 OS: Windows Server 2022 Standard. CPU: AMD EPYC 7232P 8-Core Processr 3.09GHz RAM: 32 GB Backup Disk E: has 65.5 TB capacity with 9 TB free (This disk is the default backup repository) Protected computer: Dell PowerEdge R550 OS: Ubuntu 20.04.1 CPU: Intel Xeon Gold 5317 12-Core Processor 3GHz RAM: 64 GB Backup Mode: Volume level backup Objects: /mnt/data as the only mount point (ext4 with about 7.7 TB of content with total capacity of 65 TB, which means it is 87% free)Multiple backup attempts were made and they all failed with the same Snapshot overflow error. Furthermore, I have studied the protected computer requirements referenced here and my system seems to comply.I appreciate any feedback and suggestions.Thank you,-sul.

VBR Generate Syslog Event Filter XML File

Starting with Veeam Backup & Replication 12.3, it is possible to exclude specific events from being sent to the Syslog server. This can be done manually per event, or you can import an XML file with the events to be filtered.Handling this task and finding the necessary information can be time-consuming. Executing this task manually is “boring” and error-prone, so I created a simple PowerShell script to make the process easier by generating an XML file based on your chosen filters. Veeam Nutanix AHV mail configuration

Hi All, I am trying to configure backup alerts for the Nutanix backups same as VMware in the Nutanix proxies using Azure by creating the App registration process, we have configured everting as per Veeam article but now while sending test email we are getting some SSL error also it is showing not authorized with Microsoft even though it is showing authorized during configuration. In Azure app registration for the same we have selected platform as single page application only, is that correct or we need to select platform as web? please help to resolve this issue as I am not getting much support from Veeam support. Need your help and advice for the same as for Mail configuration we are using Microsoft with modern authentication using port 587.
