Deploying a Object First OOTBI VSA (Lab)

DB error during backup jobs

I am receiving the following error and backups are failing on an air-gapped system.Violation of PRIMARY KEY constraint ‘PK_Backup_Model_GuestDatabaseToOibLinks’. Cannotinsert duplicate key in object ‘Database.table’.  The duplicate key value is ‘long string of numbers’.  The statement has been terminated.  Is the only fix for this to rebuild the DB?  TIA

Deploying Data Immutability with the Veeam Hardened Repository ISO

Hey all, I just finished posting the third of a three-part series on deploying the Veeam Hardened Repository ISO.  I’ve been waiting a long time for the ISO to be released and have been occasionally bugged Rick about it, but this thing has been solid for me for over a week.  I’ve had a server waiting for it for over a year and it was worth the wait as it was super easy to deploy aside from working around the slightly buggy GUI for Rocky Linux.  I will note that Hannes specified 64GB of RAM for the VHR ISO, but my PowerEdge R550 that we ordered for the task previously has 32GB and seems to be keeping up just fine, though time will tell. Since it’s broken up into multiple parts, I’ll just share links to my blog rather than copying it into this post, though I will share a few screenshots as a teaser.Part 1Part 2Part 3Also thank you to everyone that had previously posted or had input on network bonding in Linux.  It was helpful as I setup my first 802.3ad bond on a server.  Let me know you

Azure blob storage

Hi all,I have recently deployed Veeam Backup & Replication and have started to copy backup sets into Azure blob storage for archive purposes. I've been keeping an eye on the Azure costs which seem to be a bit higher than first anticipated. So far in the past 7 days I have pushed around 4TB into the storage account. I see total ingress for the past 7 days as 4.12TB and total egress as 83.24GB. The egress seems high for what should be just pushing data in and forgetting about it. Does anyone have any pointers on how to fine tune the copy job and storage repository? Does that amount of egress seem normal?My repository is configured to use cool blob storage and has vPower NFS enabled.The copy jobs are configured for Immediate copy, include tlogs, GFS retention, not to read the entire restore point from source backup instead of synthesising it, no backup files health check, and auto compression level.Any assistance on tuning this is greatly appreciated!

Immutable Storage actual disk used per folder

Inherency:Since we bill by actual disk usage for our client utilizing CloudConnect, the existing reports are non-functional for reporting and billing (They report pre-deduplication/reflink data).  It took a while to figure out, but there is a way to calculate actual disk space used on a per directory on an immutable repository.Solution:Using: https://community.veeam.com/blogs-and-podcasts-57/check-reflink-and-spared-space-on-xfs-repositories-244 I have extrapolated a script that will give the disk usage of each folder (IE: client) on an immutable repo.  This isn't "Data used"; that is what Veeam reports.  This is "Disk Used".  The actual size on disk after reflinks (duplicated data is only counted once). A note about this script; it appears that the original blog entry is wrong on the size of a block.  They attribute it to 4096... which is true... on disk... but the utility used explicitly gives the information in block sizes of 512:https://linux.die.net/man/8/xfs_bmap"units of 512-byt

Moving production backups to a Scale-Out Repository to free space

Hi all, Running Veeam Backup and Replication V11 on an Enterprise license - we have been backing up to HPE StoreOnce repositories for nearly a year, but due to operational changes with more VM’s, additional encryption and retention requirements we are filling these up faster than anticipated (less de-dupe). We would like to move our older monthly/yearly backups to Azure storage for long term retention in order to free up space on the StoreOnce devices for our nightly/weekly backups and restores. Initial research suggests that creating a Scale-Out repository, adding the existing StoreOnce repository as the performance tier extant and a new Azure object storage container as the capacity tier extant is the way to go. The documentation confirms this will re-point all existing jobs to use the new scale-out repository when they next run and anything older than X days (whatever we set in the capacity tier option) will be automatically offloaded to the capacity tier.  The questions I have are:

running out of free space used for backup copy jobs

hello, thanks, i am running out of space on a linux server that i use for backup copy jobs.i am not sure the ways to free space without creating a nightmare…by way of example, this is the setting for a backup copy jobwhat would happen if i changed the retention policy from 30 days to 7 days?not sure i really need 30 days, as this is in addition to the main backup policyi would assume that veeam will not delete the older .vib files from day 8 to 30, correct?so i think i need to manually prune those older .vib files?but not wanting to affect veeam ability about keeping certain full backups longer for archival purposes.please, any advise at all about that setup or if any additional information is needed?thanks, david

Network Bonding with VHR ISO

Has anyone setup bonding with the VHR ISO? This probably isn’t VHR ISO specific but I thought I’d give it a good try.  Eventually the server this is going on will become my primary repo to replace the NAS my backups are going to currently.With that said, I’m using two Dell S4112T switches in a VLT configuration with a 40Gb QSFP to 4x 10Gb SFP+ breakout cables providing a 10Gb link from each switch.  Server is a Dell PowerEdge R550 with Broadcom 57414 Dual Port 10/25 GbE SFP28 OCP NIC.  I’ve configured a port channel on the switches and configured an 802.3ad (Mode 4) bond on the server but watching pings run while the server is just sitting at the configuration in the installer, I’ve seen it drop a few packets here and there for a while and then it comes back up.  Looking at the switches when this happens, both of the interfaces and the port channel are showing up/up.  Bond configuration is as below (aside from the MTU being set to 9000 after I took the screenshot, but the effect was th

Fast storage and configuration.

I connected a new SAN and 2 servers that will be used for Veeam. These are just some “Hero numbers” of reads and intend to do a writeup of design with proper benchmarks in the future.  When you have an environment with a large quantity of data, you still need to be able to restore it quickly or run instant restores while you migrate to production.   For a preliminary test I connected 2 servers to a single SAN and created a few volumes to run IOMeter.  23.9k MBPS = 23.9GBps =191.2 Gbps.  with sub millisecond latency @ 240k IOPS I am very happy. There is always a bottle neck to account for in design. Usually it’s budget 🤣.  Currently my limitation is the amount of of servers/ports at this point. Specifically 32Gb fiber ports as they are all running at 100%. If I had another server or more ports available on the repositories, I have no doubt this thing would be hitting close to 36GB/s.  Storage snapshots from production along with fast networking from proxies to repositories is critical

Import agent backups not found on Cloud connect located in Wasabi

Hi all,A customer’s device is complete gone, but has daily full backups stored via CloudConnect in Wasabi. When we try to import the backups, it gives the message ‘No backups found’. Altough, the Cloud Connect server gives usage of the bucket and de job just ran fine. Any ideas how to import the backup in the Cloud Connect server to start the recovery ?  The import of the backup doesn’t seem to find the backup chain….

Disaster Recovery

Our customer are running Veeam and replication to protect EXSI 10 workload .They would like request the disaster recovery plan .We know the Acronis/Azure have the backup solution just install the agent in workload and destination is to cloud .When the disaster is coming we just turn on the workload in cloud then they start charging all the necessary like EC2.In Veeam have any solution similar like Acronis/Azure ?

​  under the reporting TAB  You have the following two report templates.  Under the saved reports lets say you created production Reports folder and you have to saved few reports on that folder.For safe side use this option go to download folder keep that file with you Why we keep this jason file with us if mistakenly delete We can import back that production Reports folder.     ​

Immutable Days Object Storage with Cloudian

Hi, I have a question. I recently added an object storage repository (Cloudian) with an immutable retention period of 7 days. Then, I created a new backup job and pointed it to that repository, and I ran the backup. After the backup job completed, I checked the object files in Cloudian and looked at their retention period, and the result shows more than 7 days. Shouldn't it be exactly 7 days, not longer?Attached is the screenshot:Repository config for immutable days The date when the first backup started The object retention displayed in Cloudian Management The 'retain until' date should be 2024-11-14 if the retention is set to 7 days, but this is not what is happeningCan anyone explain how Veeam sets the immutable days for objects in object storage? Thanks for your answer and attention😊

Veeam Ports Finder Tool

Hi all. The EMEA SAs have recently just added a new tool to https://www.veeambp.com called the ‘Ports Finder’ (aka Ports Directory).  The idea behind the tool was to make it easier to find all the ports you need for a Veeam solution. It doesn’t provide mapping for specific hosts or any of the advanced feature that the Veeam Ports Tool provides.Currently it only has VMware and Hyper-V ports; however, that will be changing soon and will have:VMware Hyper-V AHV Enterprise Manager All Explorers Windows, Linux and Solaris Agents VBR Integration with AWS and Azure Veeam ONE O365 VDROAll the port mappings were pulled directly from their respective webpages so they are 100% accurate.
