Hi Guys,

I’m rolling Veeam SQL plugin out across lots of different SQL servers in my org. Is there a protection group equivalent ? If not, how does Veeam help me to keep on top of where they are installed, and more importantly auto upgrade them when Veeam is upgraded ? On top of that how do the permissions work, in terms of local admin on all SQL servers to perform the Plugin install/upgrade ?

Thanks

Phil

Hi @Airless -

Yeah...in unmanaged mode, you’re really using the 3rd party side of things to manage your backups, with a little bit of backup storage redirection to the Veeam side. I’m pretty sure there’s no “nice” way to manage multiple Plug-in servers. You may want to reach out to either Support or the Forums to ask the Veeam PMs their thoughts.

This should help explain how the plugin works, etc. - https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backup/plugins/mssql_plugin.html

Thanks @Chris. I have read that extensively but it doesn’t answer my specific question;

I will be using the plugins in unmanaged mode. In this case what options are there for mass management - specifically upgrade ? Or am I restricted to getting creative with unattended mode and automation ? Even then I can’t easily track where the agents are installed unless I use a third party software install product like Ivanti, but I don’t really want to go that route.

Thanks

Phil

Roger that ! Thanks for the guidance. I guess I can’t have my cake and eat it can I !

I’m going to sound stupid now. I though I am asking the forums here ? Is there a specific way to go and ask the forums ?

No worries. haha...truth! 😂

Just go into the specific ‘subject’ (Plug-ins area) and ask/post just like here (tho, there isn’t specific Veeam Product areas for every product here as in the Forums). That should get you going.

The forums are a separate site from the community discussion board. Here’s a link: https://forums.veeam.com/
