Failed to enable CDP

Hi

Last week, we renewed the certificate on vCenter and since then CDP has been failing. The CDP jobs showed the messages similar to

Warning : Restore point creation completed with warnings. (Failed to create restore point 02 November 2026 08:00:18 (attempt 1 out of 3)) Error: The remote certificate was rejected by the provided RemoteCertificateValidationCallback

If I disable the CDP job and then re-enable again, I get the message

Failed : Enabling CDP completed with errors Error: The remote certificate was rejected by the provided RemoteCertificateValidationCallback

And

Failed : Failed to enable Continuous Data Protection: Could not establish trust relationship for the SSL/TLS secure channel with authority

All replication jobs and backup jobs appear to be running fine. If I go through the properties of the vCenter host, I am never prompted for a certificate and the host discovery completes with no errors.

I have the option “Add all discovered hosts to the list automatically” enabled under Host authentication in Options. I assume this is the same as the “trust all” option mentioned in some articles I’ve seen online.

Where does Veeam VBR keep it’s certificates? Is there anywhere to see what certificate the CDP job is using and force to renew it? Or any other way to get the CDP jobs restarted?

We are running VBR 13.1.1.18

Many Thanks
Roy

Hi @roysm,

Just do through the Config-Wizards of the vCenter again (not only “Rescan”). So right-click and edit / properties of all affected vCenters in the Inventors and Backup Infrastructure sections.

If that doesn’t help, I suggest opening a Veeam Support ticket.

By re-applying, you might get prompted to trust the certs, which is exactly what you are looking for. Please make sure all firewall ports are opened as required: https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/vbr/userguide/used_ports.html?ver=13

Best regards

Lukas

I would suggest what Lukas said about editing the VC properties as it might prompt for certificate acceptance.  Barring that you could try applying the latest update 13.1.2 as well.  Support is the best bet though if this doesn't work.

Thanks but that is what I have already tried. When I go through the properties of the vCenter object I do not get prompted for a certificate. It appears to connect to vcenter and the host discovery completes with no errors.

I’ll log a support ticket

Yeah support is your best bet forward now.  Let us know what they say.
