So, this is definitely a deep edge case if you could not tell from the title, if you could even figure out the situation from the title :)But since I went down this rabbit hole for a case, figured I’d share it for people getting deep into automation and the Veeam Public Cloud Backups who are following 3-2-1 rule and making Backup Copies of these from their External Repositories. Even if you never need to solve this particular use case, I suppose it’s a good example of what you can actually learn about a backup and how to properly parse data without nasty string munging.Issue: Backup Copies sourced from External Backups don’t have a UI field to associate the Restore Points with the original backed up machine’s public cloud information like Subscription, Region, etc.Where this likely becomes an issue is when you heavily automate regional deployments and may have identical infrastructures set up uniquely for individual regions. (e.g., you deploy machines with same names for regions that o
Hi all In this post I want to describe my personal experience in preparing and taking the VMCE exam.I know that there are some other topics written about the VMCE exam, like a good post of our top legend @MicoolPaul 😉, but I also want to share my personal experience. It’s very hot these days because some of our legends have recently received a free VMCE course of VEEAM. How cool is that from Veeam 😊.So especially for these co-legends (and in the meantime I luckily have met them in person at the Veeam 100 Summit event 😊) and hopefully other people wanting to take the course and exam. Requirement : Yes, indeed taking an official 3-day VMCE course is a requirement before taking the VMCE exam. For me it’s almost 5 years ago that I took the VMCE course – version 9.5 at that time. Because I work for a certified Veeam reseller and service provider, one of the requirements is that we have to have at least 1 VMCE in the company if we want to keep a Gold Partnership with Veeam.Because I’m the o
Hi VeeamWe are using VeeamBackup For Office365 and we have daily jobs for Exchange Online mailboxes plus all of our SharePoint Online sites and our Teams data. This is all good and its stable and reliable and restores are easy. We are now starting to use Intune for device management of iPads and Windows10 laptops. It would be a very good thing if Veeam could backup the Intune “environment”, such as the policies and apps and configurations. At the moment, our Intune is completely unprotected from a mis-configuration or getting wiped out if a GA account is compromised. I can’t even take a “snapshot” on the Intune environment before experimenting with new settings and new configurations. I only have less than 100 devices in Intune but there must be orgs with potentially many hundreds or thousands of devices in Intune that don’t have backup protections in place.SignedCustomer who needs Intune backups

One of the first scripts I wrote after I joined Veeam was one that produced a license usage report using the Veeam Availability Console API. Since then, a lot has changed! The product was rebranded to Veeam Service Provider Console (VSPC) and it’s API was greatly updated in a complete rewrite! That change occurred a couple years ago... As such, it was definitely long overdue for this script to be reworked so it could leverage this amazing new API! This script uses minimal API calls to retrieve current point in time license usage for every company in VSPC. On top of that, if the company is managed by a reseller, reseller information will be included in the output.Developer’s notes...This script is meant to be a stepping stone as the framework can easily be used in other automations. I tried to keep most of the code modular by design so folks can use the script as-is or take the pieces you need for your custom Veeam integration. It can also serve as a reference on how to use Asynchronous
My new book “Dell VxRail System Design and Best Practices” will be released on Dec 23, 2022. This book is for system architects, system administrators, or consultants involved in planning and designing VxRail HCI. The reader is expected to have equivalent knowledge and administration experience with VMware vSphere 7. x and vCenter Server 7.x. This book includes three sections. I like the section 3, especially chapter 10 because the topic is related to Veeam. ^^https://www.amazon.com/Dell-VxRail-System-Design-Practices-ebook/dp/B0BKSZ7KTR
Happy Friday everyone, he’s something likely to divide the room: What do you prefer to use for audio calls at work?
I have a “Community Edition” of VB&R. I’m trying to restore a configuration backup to it. When I go to Configuration Backup and click the “Restore...” button, I get “Access Denied”. I’m an admin on the computer and I’ve even launched VB&R with “Run as administrator”. I’m not sure why the program is denying access. Is this a limitation of the “Community Edition” (I’ve haven’t found any documenation that mentions this)? The whole process breaks down before I even get the choice to choose a restore file so I’m trying to determine what is actually happening at this step and if I simply need to change permissions somewhere. Thanks!
Hi Folks, Calling all Micro$oft Office wizards out there! What is the best way to embed CLI commands in a word doc? One so that it does not capitalize things or change the -- into one line? I think you can create a text box or something but cumbersome. There must be a better way! cheers
Hi, Veeam newbie here looking for recommendation on how to make optimal use of our network cards. Our servers are HP DL365s with 4 x 1Gbps on a single module and 2 x 10Gbps on a separat module. The plan is to follow the VMwar Best Practice document to allocate 2 x 1Gbps for Management and vMotion, 2 x 1Gbps for the VM traffic (VLAN 111) and 1 x 10Gbps for storage traffic to our NetApp (from where we mount the VMDKs via NFS). Our Veeam BaR server and proxy are both VMs and not physical and we have a separate VLAN for backup and replication (VLAN 333), and for storage (VLAN 222). A colleague says we are over-engineering this and backup traffic should just flow thru the same storage network. Any suggestions?
I’ve read the requirements which call for 16GB RAM and 8 cores. How will this run on a 12GB Windows 10/11 machine with 6 cores (Intel i5-10400 CPU @ 2.90GHz)? There’s little else running on the machine.
Hello Veeamers,I read the veeam docs and i don’t see any references to MSSQL on Linux.https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backup/explorers/vesql_systemreqs.html?ver=110Am I the only one to have this gift on production on VM? Except VM backup, it will be old fashioned way for DBA to play with backup on it.
I followed the Veeam setup guide as well as Microsoft 365 to Veeam Backup to Backblaze B2 Cloud Storage. Everything looks great, I have the following Backup Proxies and Repositories. I used modern authentication. No errors anywhere. However when I create a backup the only choice is the Default Backup Repository. What might I be missing here?
For well know reasons myself and many here recommend to - if possible - deploy VBR and especially it’s repos outside of the Windows domain.Certain issues come as a downside with doing that:Maintaining multiple local admin logins, remote-UAC (LocalAccountTokenFilterPolicy), firewall behavior outside of domain networks etc. being some of those.Recently I stumbled upon a situation were we could not establish a connection from a non-domain-joined VBR server to a newly deployed non-domain-joined Windows 2019 repo server. Other older proxies/repos to the same VBR were available and functioning. From the VBR server the admin$ share of the to-be-connected new repo was not accessible (“invalid login”).VBR also stated “invalid login” during Windows server onboarding. But from another (domain joined) Windows system in the same (direct, non-routed) network, the repo’s admin$ share was well available with the same user/pw.Of course no Windows firewall whatsoever was active.Very strange.Has anyone se
Hi, I had an unexpected network error on my windows server 2012R2 and Veeam Agent for Windows ver. 5.0.3I have setted “keep backups for 35 days” and I have on my nas 2 Tb free out of 3 Tb total. Now, I have 34 backups and when i run a backup, after about a minute, I get “processing finished with errors” and “error: unexpected network error. Failed to read data from the file”. I tried to free up some space, to stop and start Veeam agent service, to restart nas, to modify the number of backups (trying 30 and 40) but every time i got the same error. what else can i do?

TapeDrive alert: The tape drive is due for routine cleaning: Wait for the current operation to finish. Then use a cleaning cartridge. Check the tape drive user manual for device specific cleaning instructions. We have the cleaning tape in the library, and it is set to Perform drive cleaning automatically. Not sure why we would get the alert. Would ejecting and adding back to the drive resolve this issue?

Good morning my friends, I have a question. Today I have 2 external HDs, where every Saturday I change one HD and the other week I put the other HD. One of them is doing the incremental process on the same folder regardless of the week it is. Already the other HD is creating a new folder and making the backups again. I don't want it to create another folder, I want it to use the same one. How do I do that? Since the other one is doing it and I just repeated the settings from the 1st HD to the 2nd HD.
