Long term storage for Decommissioned servers

I have a customer that would like to have a way to save decommissioned server backups for 7 years.  Their normal retention for backup jobs is 1 year.  They use Data Domain for archive storage.  When they decommission a server they would like to keep the backup for 7 years.  My thought was to create a second repository on the Data Domain, move the backups there and then remove the server from the backup job.  Would this effectively exclude those backups from retention policies?

Adding an Azure Stack HCI cluster to Veeam

I have a new installation of Veeam Backup & Recovery and I’m trying to add an Azure Stack cluster. I’ve tried adding it as a Hyper-V virtual infrastructure but this fails with a very generic permissions type error / node is not a cluster error. The account I’m using has domain admin permissions.I’ve been unable to find any documentation on how this should work. Has anyone experience of this? Andrew

Service Provider Console Management Agent Access to VBR with MFA Enabled

I have a newer client that I recently deployed VBR for that is managed by our Service Provider Console.  At some point in time I stopped getting reports from VBR in the SPC.  The Management Agent was talking to the SPC, but I was getting no information from VBR.  After opening a case with support and uploading logs (kudo’s to the Veeam team for making it so easy to create cases and upload logs within the SPC), support noted the below error found in the logs. 2024-01-22 22:00:19.9095 [ERROR ] 5684 [__21] BackupServerDiscovery: Exception thrown in method CollectBackupServerFromWMISafe from BackupServerDiscovery Exception: System.Management.ManagementException: Access denied2024-01-22 22:00:19.9095 [ERROR ] 5684 [__21] BackupServerDiscovery: Exception thrown in method CollectBackupServerFromWMISafe from BackupServerDiscovery Exception: System.Management.ManagementException: Access denied Support listed two possible fixes, the first of which is making sure the Service Provider entry is set

Two Physical Linux Servers added to inventory will not coexist

I’m trying to add two Physical Computers (Linux 20.04) into inventory to backup.Both are in the same protection group.When adding the servers and clicking “Test Now” the test is successful.After applying the Protection Group changes, I briefly see both servers, then one always disappears.It seems random as to which server remains. I see different fingerprints for each server.I’ve tried using separate protection groups, but the issue is the same. I initially added the computers as part of a backup job creation, but when adding the second server and job, the job always failed. We have uninstalled the agent from both servers, and repeated the process, always with the same result.Veeam Enterprise Plus 11All the other backed up servers are VM’s.Any suggestions?

Login to Veeam with Domain users when the server is a workgroup

I removed the veeam B&R server and Enterprise manager from the domain due to security issues, and now I want to know if it is possible to log in to these servers, which are workgroups, with domain users ?Is there a best practice?

Thoughts on using Windows Client OS for all BR server components

Is there any significant downside to using Windows 11 pro as the OS for the BR server roles instead of windows server OS?  I ask because I’ve been evaluating how to migrate our BR infrastructure away from our domain joined servers and one path I'm looking at appears to require using a client OS.  The BR documentation appears to show all roles as supported to be running on the client OS. We have a pretty small deployment.  I would like to avoid using a workgroup for the BR infrastructure if possible, so my thoughts are either (1) use another AD domain in the AD forest.  (2) use Azure Managed Domain Services (3) Use the Free Entra ID and device management.  Option (1) seemed like a nice option at first, but looking at the actual support requirements, it seems like it will add a lot of overhead and I’m not even sure I can reasonably avoid any chicken/egg situation where I’m starting from no running infrastructure and just repository backup data.  Option (2) appears to be way too expensive

Don’t be tempted to buy any practice exams 😁! Again the study group won’t provide any answers, it will do much better, it will provide the means to get to the answers. Those same means and methods can then be used in real life production situations to solve problems. At the end of the day that is what we all want apart from the shinny certificate!

Veeam Agent fails to install on Hyper-V Server

Hello,I’d like to evaluate Veeam’s backup solutions. I’m trying to install Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows on a Hyper-V Server 2019 OS, but any attempts ends with a failure. Checking the installation logs reveals the error message "System.ComponentModel.Win32Exception (0x80004005): Fatal error during installation". This instance of Hyper-V Server has no additional software installed, including anything related to SQL Server (which seems to be the cause of this issue, as I found out from other topics about this error code).Is there perhaps a component that’s missing on Hyper-V Server that’s required for Veeam Agent to work?

Veeam researching support for VMware alternative Proxmox as backup buyers fret about Broadcom

"We're researching and doing some prototyping around Proxmox to see what's possible there as far as backup goes," Anton Gostev, Veeam's senior veep for product management posted on January 11.Another Veeam product manager, Fabian Kessler, last week confirmed that effort, writing "Proxmox is something we are doing some early research on." As found on Reddit/The Register.  Of course, it all ties back to the R&D Forums, so I guess I should keep a better eye there since I hadn’t seen anything posted on the Community Hub yet.  Glad to hear something is being researched.  Wondering what other products are being researched.  I haven’t looked at it yet, but XCP-NG seems to be another open source project gaining traction. Obviously many folks are very invested in the VMware ecostructure, but I’m curious of anyone here, especially service providers has begun looking into alternatives?  Mostly backups have held me off from really setting up any lab environments for testing, but if Veeam is lo

I’ve created a repository per the instructions from the documentation, but cannot select it for scheduled Configuration Backups. It’s displayed in the Repository list. Encryption, and immutability is enabled.Is there something else missing?

I wrote a C# tool so you can move VBO (365) config to a new host, or rename the host

The main issue is the config.edb file has 3-4 values that are hard-coded with the VBO proxy settings, so if you move to a new server, VBO backups will start to fail. Thus, the official recommendation is to move the data, but manually re-create all orgs and backup jobs. That HURTS.
