Can't restore VM

After a power failure a VM on vSphere 8 couldn’t be started. But that’s no problem as we have backups…As I tried to restore the VM the following errors occured: 10.04.2024 07:59:45 Error    Restore job failed Error: Invoke failed. #WorldBackupDay When Veeam Storage Snapshort Orchestration Saved the Day!

Cue Superman standing on a hill with hands on his hips, wind blowing through his hair, and cape flapping in the wind 🦸🏻😂  Ok, not really...hahaThe truth is, “sysadmin superhero-like” tactics would not have been needed if I had been a bit more meticulous in my storage configuration tasks.Veeam FlexibilityOne of the many benefits of using Veeam Backup & Replication is its flexibiltiy in how you deploy it. Personally, I use the “Advanced” deployment method, creating separate servers for Veeam and my ancillary components, Proxy and Repository. But, to save on hardware and software (OS) costs, Veeam allows you to combine the Proxy and Repository roles. I use physical hardware for these components. As such, I wanted to push my physical compute (CPU/Memory) and network (10Gb nics) resources to the limit on my hardware, so I combined them on 1 server. Import data for S3 Object Repo

Hi All,Recently we take our backup in external HDD and Copy the backup data to the S3 Object storage,after adding the S3 Object Repo we try to import the data from S3, but no backup data is found. we also try manually copy the data to s3 object folder but it not working,anyone face this issue or any solutions for this?

Garbage Files in Veeam and Cisco UCS

I ran a report in Veeam and found out that there were several garbage files in Veeam. But, we have CISCO UCS sentinal snapshots. Do you think that what Veeam shows in Garbage files could include the Sentinel Snapshots also? As, we do not want to delete the Sentinel snapshots in UCS which might be appearing as Garbage files in Veeam. Anyone could explain more about this Garbage file and which one we should delete.

Question about reporting, Veeam ONE

One of my clients uses Veeam B&R for backing up 43 VMs.  It’s working great. Now I’m being asked for a report on each VM, how often it’s backed up, how many restore points are kept and for how long we keep the backup of the VM. As I am new to ONE reporting, I’m hoping someone here can tell me what report I need from the canned reports or whether or not I need to create a custom report, and maybe how. Thank you! NVM...I figured it out.  Pretty sweet reporting tools in ONE.

How to identify physical hard disk drives sitting in multiple SAN devices connected to a single ESXi host?

Hi Team,Got two question and appreciate your response.Q1.In my work environment, we got 3 ESXi hosts and each have connected to multiple SAN devices to store data in different locations. I need to do a mapping exercise to identify the physical HDD’s (inside each SAN device) locations to above said individual ESXi host. I can access the ESXi host from a web interface and can view the datastores connected to individual ESXi host. Further, I can retrieve basic information of  the HDDs (physical) but not an option to locate in which SAN device they are stored.Hope my question is clear and appreciate your valuable support to obtain the best eway to perform this exercise?Q2.Also would like to know a tool or a mechanism to detect the health status of the physical HDD. The HDDs are in the production environment would like to know an industry best practice to determine the health status please?Than you in advance. Kind regards, Andrew

Veeam Toolbar Not Showing For SQL Server Plug-In

We’ve installed the SQL Server Plug-in on a couple of test boxes, but the Veeam toolbar isn’t showing up in SSMS when we open it up. Is there a trick to get it to show up so our DBA can manage Veeam backups from within SSMS?We installed the plug-in with an account that was in the local Administrators group. We right-clicked and selected “run as administrator” when we launched the installer. We went through the Veeam Plugin Configuration application. But after all of that, when we open SSMS the Veeam toolbar doesn’t show up like it does in all of the demo videos. We’ve checked the “view” settings but Veeam plugin isn’t an option there.Any help what we are missing would be appreciated. Edit: Veeam 12.1.0.2131, SSMS v15.0.18369.0, Windows Server 2019 Standard

Feature Request - Subfolders Physical Infrastructure

Hey Community, we have Customers, which have quite a big Physical Infrastructure. It would be really Helpful, if the Protection Groups can not only be having Top Level Folders, but 1 or 2 Subfolders for Organization. Something like:Steel Production Hot (Protection Group) Cold (Protection Group) North Wing 1st-Floor Management (Protection Group) Sales (Protection Group) 2nd-Floor Technic (Protection Group) Engineers (Protection Group)  If you are thinking different or have a better solution for my Problem, i would be happy to hear/read what you have to say. GreetingsMathias

Replica Seeding

Hello All,I have a case i’m working on it customer has DC in cloud provider site and needs to move it to new DC he can’t make backup throw WAN because of traffic costs so we offers to get storage and put it in the cloud provider site and create second copy to it then move the storage to the new place and create replica seeding and make planned failover and commit the failover  any suggestion recommendation?

Veeam v12 production backup chains upgrade interesting alert

I was doing a production backup chains upgrade, and we saw an alert for Microsoft Defender Cloud.It was because the blobs were being rescanned and upgraded by Veeam during the backup chains upgrade.   All was fine.  It's just a triggered alert that could be documented internally as nothing to worry about.

Hours in the CLI but sometimes you need to break out? A quick solution to beeam you out

Hi Everyone, More and more of us are spending our days wandering around various CLIs. There are times when you need to jump out into a file explorer in the precise location where your pwd command locates you.on windows simply type start .on a Mac doopen .and on Linux (I will demo this since I am in my basement on one of my stashed Linux machines hidden away :) xdg-open .So here I am in my Pictures directory I would like to see the thumbnails quickly so here it goes  and Voila!   If the xdg-open command is too long for you go ahead and create an alias in your .bashrc file

Backup chain for Backup Copy Job

Hello,How would my Backup copy Job chain look?Backup Jobs are 7 restore points (Incrementals + Synthetic Fulls)Backup Copy Jobs will also have 7 Restore points.As I’m going trough some old discussions I can see that with Forward incrementals and first Full Backup with backup copy jobs everything has stay above 7 restore points.Also one more question, do I need to seed backup copy jobs if I’m going to use WAN Acceleration in High Bandwidth Mode

Best way to give the Veeam backup server for Microsoft 365 an address (IP or name) for Restore Portal config??

We have begun our 30-day trial, going very well. Except we have no servers (all in the cloud) and need to assign an IP address to a Windows 11 PC which will serve as our Backup PC.Would like to hear from others who have been through this - how did you make that backup server addressable to create a restore portal? Can we somehow use one of our spare domains from Microsoft 365? We’ve been wracking our brains with little to no technical support and I think the question is best addressed in a group such as this. Any ideas?

Renaming NetApp volumes causes backup to fail

While adding some new Volumes, I found that some of my NetApp Volumes were not named correctly according to our standard naming conventions.  Thinking nothing of it, I renamed them and carried on.I had my Veeam B&R server rescan the storage and all seemed well, until every backup job failed.“Cannot find any relevant ONTAP SnapMirror and SnapVault relationshipsFailed to create processing task for VM <servername> Error: Failed to prepare VM for processing from secondary storage snapshot, and the option to failover to primary storage snapshot is disabled.”The Volumes are set up for VMware with a single LUN presented via Fiber Channel.It is set up to do an intra-cluster snapshot from an FAS8300 to a FAS2720 and backup from the FAS2720The protection relationships all say they are healthy and under the Veeam policy on the storage.I’ve had a ticket open with support for 10 days and am not getting anywhere fast.They had me edit the properties of the storage and click through and then

creating new proxy - getting disk access denied

not sure what the issue is but im using local admin credentials to add these new proxy servers into my backup infra. subsequently when creating new jobs these proxies are not showing up as availble for usage. any ideas?
