Veeam Backup for Nutanix AHV 4a available for download

An incremental update has been released for Veeam Backup for Nutanix AHV. RMAN Plugin - Read Bandwidth Throttling?

Hey everyone, Has anyone ever seen Veeam throttling bandwidth with the RMAN plugin? I’m working with a really beefy Veeam environment at the moment. Source data is all on flash, 40GbE networking available, high performance RAID controller + 4x RAID 60 repositories in a SOBR. Backups are flying for most workloads, VMware, Agent, NAS etc, but RMAN is letting me down. For example, a Veeam Agent using an unoptimised network path via the firewall can still do over 200MBps (Firewall is the bottleneck here), but RMAN is doing 5-7MBps and it’s on an L2 network with no firewalls involved. Testing with iperf can get 6-8Gbps easily without tuning between the hosts and the backup repositories, one test with iperf between the backup repositories was giving 26Gbps, so the network really is moving quick.When I’m going through the Veeam logs I’m finding things like this: plugin_co| [8b43] >> : Invoke: Network.UpdateThrottling\n{ (EInt32) KbpsReadBandwidth = 0\n (EInt32) KbpsWriteBandwidth

Faild to connect to host, Invalid namespace

Hi,I have setup a new Veeam Advanced version 12. Time based groups for Active Directory

If you have Veeam on your domain, or Enterprise Manager and want to give a user access for a specific amount of time, you can achieve this with a simple PowerShell command.  Add-ADGroupMember -Identity ‘Group_NAME’ -Members ‘Username’ -MemberTimeToLive (New-TimeSpan -Minutes *****) The issue with this is trying to calculate minutes to days, weeks, months, or having some sort of searchable way to do this task.  Onboarding users with this method was proving difficult so I thought of easier ways to achieve this.  What started off with an overly complex excel spreadsheet to extract minutes from dates and generate a command has now become an PowerShell based GUI.  In the below script. anything with “*****” should be replaced with items from your own AD infrastructure. This allows to search 1 or many users and add them to 1 or many groups. Veeam Licence? What is better to buy?

Hello Everybody, i’am new……...i need to buy the god licence for my new backup.I habe 45VM wand more or less 15TB backup stuff…….what you mean better to buy a Essential Licence or a Advanced. (i will use also Veem One).The Veeam funtionallity for Essential are the same as Advanced?I have only Hyper-V VM onprimise, but in 3 yeas maybe we go to Azure, so i think better VUL Licence and not Core. Thank for the help Thank a lotAlfred

The awesomeness of Veeam Recovery Orchestrator (VRO) Clean DR!

Veeam Recovery Orchestrator (VRO) V6 can provide orchestration of recoveries to different locations (original location, a secondary site, or Azure) from backups or secondary backups. VRO   The feature that I love the most about VRO (well, really one of the many features) is the ability to easily have VRO scan multiple backup restore points of a server (virtual or physical) for malware infections that may have been missed before a backup so bad backups don’t get put back in production!  VRO will use a the update AV software installed on the mount server to perform iterative scans of multiple restores to find a “clean” restore point to recover from. This can be performed in a few easy steps. First, launch the orchestration plan for the server(s) you want to restore, right-click on it and select run.  Step through the wizard until you reach the “Ransomware scan” page. If you want to limit the number of restore points scanned, you can set it here by checking the checkbox and entering a val

Hi All,This is my first post on this site.I have been asked to backup a database on one of our servers before setting it up to be decommissioned. The DB needs to be retained for 40 years and before I can archive off the DB I need to ensure that we are able to access it. I am very  new to veeam and wondered if anyone knows how I can backup just the DB and not the VM? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

ONTAP 9.12.1P2 - Exceeding the 16 TiB LUN Limit and 100 TiB Volume Limit.

In Feb 2023 NetApp announced the release of ONTAP 9.12.1 to introduce some new hardware the C-Series models. One big item that customers were eager for was large volume and LUN support. This was experimental and was not enabled without support assistance.It is now enabled by default in ONTAP 9.12.1P2 and later releases. design for single server local+cloud backup

I just upgraded to v12 and the direct-to-object storage feature is exciting but I am having trouble doing what I would like to do.I have the veeam service provider console and associated cloud connect server, and several single physical servers at different customer sites that I would like have a local backup + direct to object storage backup strategy for.  I was hoping to use veeam agents on the physical servers and just use my console + cloud connect server to manage / monitor the backups. Ideally backup data would just go to the local storage at the same physical site as the server (NAS/external USB), and be uploaded directly to object storage without going through the cloud connect server.I considered using a scale-out backup repository for this, but trying to configure a scale out backup repository on my cloud connect server, but I can’t have an extent be local storage.I considered installing a backup server on the physical server but this seems like a bad idea given the backup se

Agent (and installation) silently fails on Windows 7 SP1

Hei,  I’m trying to understand a mysterious problem with Veeam Agent on Windows 7 SP 1.  The system is relatively old and backed up occasionally on request only. The last backup is about two years old. When I tried start Veeam Agent today (version was ~2019ish), no window appeared. Not even the icon in the task bar showed up. I decided to uninstall the old version and went for 6.0.2.1090. However, this time the installer (even when run as administrators) doesn’t do anything. No error messages, no exception - nothing.  When clicked, the hourglass shows up for a couple of seconds, but then it’s gone. Even at its age, the system is running fine. Do you know how I could get a handle on this? Does the installer log anything? Thanks, Frank

Missing feature in V12

Hi allAfter working already for more than 2 months with the new version of VBR, I must say it’s great with all new features and changes.But I must being honest, there is a feature that I’m missing that is not available anymore after the upgrade…What am I missing after the upgrade?For a new backup copy-job (not the existing after upgrading) it is not possible to define certain static VMs in a backup copy-job anymore. You have to select an existing primary backup job or repository.I must be honoust, it’s better than before, now we can change between immediately and periodically backup-copy jobs without the need to create a new backup-copy job.All good and even better than before, but…. Why I need this frequently?Normally I always create 1-to-1 backup copy jobs to primary backup jobs, so normally everything is OK and not needed, but there is 1 exception to the rule!Normally we always used periodically backup copy jobs with statically defined VMs in the job for backup copy jobs connected t

Analyse ReFS space savings with Block cloning

ReFS (Resilient File System) is a file system by Microsoft that provides - since Windows Server 2016 - a feature named Block cloning. Basically it uses pointers to already existing blocks instead of copying or re-creating them. This saves time and disk space. Veeam uses this feature for synthetic operations like merging incremental backups with full or synthetic full.In my opinion Microsoft does not offer a proper utility to analyse ReFS space savings with Block cloning. Linux and Windows, happily ever after, who would have thought

I am old enough to remember the intense wars between Windows and Linux users in the late 90’s.I actually had a dream that I woke up many many years in the future, circa 2100 where both OS’s had merged and life was wonderful. Well it is 2023, the world is still crazy BUT… today I got Terminator and Remmina running on Windows 11 via WSL2, and what's more with a shortcut!!! I am back on a windows laptop due to corporate stuff. [What (else) is new in v12 - VI] Two-factor authentication for VBR console

Quite a cool new feature is the ability to enable Multi-factor authentication (MFA) for the VBR console login. With this a user has to enter username, password and an additional confirmation code that comes from a Authenticator app like Google Authenticator.At first login, User can add VBR to his Authenticator app.It is really simple to use.BUT: 2FA works only for VBR console, NOT for PowerShell!Another security improvement is the option for Automatic Session logoff:

Hello, Trying to restore a machine.Created a Veeam recovery iso.
