Restore from Backup Copy to Another Server

Hello,I need support to restore an Oracle base via RMAN with the Oracle Plugin on another server.Running the command below returns the following message:[oracle@oracle01]<ORACLEBKP> #OracleRMANConfigTool --configure-restore-from-copyYou will be unable to run RMAN backups while "Restore from copy" mode is enabled. Fun Friday #61: Unexpected Incidents / I can't believe that happened!

Happy Friday everyone, Today’s inspiration for Fun Friday comes from Reddit. I saw a picture today of a fibre cable broken by… an arrow!https://www.reddit.com/r/nevertellmetheodds/comments/10ya76l/arrow_accidentally_pierces_fiber_utility_line_and/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3 Sometimes shocking events like this happen that you just wish you’d caught on camera. Reminds me of the time that I had a 2-post UPS, had just installed it into the rack, and all the cage nuts sheered simultaneously, and it crashed down onto an LCD monitor that we weren’t allowed to relocate. The best part? The hinge bent back on the monitor but was still in-tact, and the screen! Of which the bezel had taken the full force of the UPS! Anyone got a good “Can’t believe this happened” story to share?

Hi Folks, This is a good time of year to look back and be grateful for things that we have. I think everyone will agree here that the Veeam Community Hub is a stellar success! I wanted to thank the Veeam folks, past and present who have made this place what it is. @Rick Vanover @Madi.Cristil @NikolaPejkova @Kseniya @safiya work/worked very hard to not only keep this place running but to proactively improve it. Even with such success they remain humble and approachable people.As everyone in IT knows, when things are working well people take it for granted (I had a non IT boss once who rather foolishly 😆 claimed to upper management during a meeting that “these systems just run themselves”) but we know they don’t. In contrast, when things go badly the blame game gets targeted squarely on the humans behind the machines or systems. Tape Servers - Limits & Expansion - Service Providers when do you expand?

I wanted to ask any Service Providers out there that may use tape with Veeam - do you have sizing set up so that when you have X number of Tenants you add tape drives or another tape server?I am working on our design for our Veeam VCC to Tape offering and I am trying to put together some rough estimations of when you have X number of tenants on VCC you add either - X number of tape drives more or add a second/third tape server to the mix.We have currently 47 tenants with one tape server which had 3 tape drives connected (now it is up to 6 as we added 3 more yesterday) but it still seems to be a bit of a headache due to the number of jobs running plus when a Restore request comes in.Hopefully someone has experience around this as I have also asked our SA at Veeam as well to see if there is any documentation, they have similar to the limit's spreadsheet for VBM365 which is great.Thank for looking and chiming in. 😁

Treating notifications "xxxx is no longer processed by this job" as alarms?

On my esxi 7.0 cluster I’ve added a couple of VMs for testing. Having had B&R configured to backup entire hosts (with some VM exceptions) it obviously backed up these test VMs. I did not notice this change, since I’ve configured Veeam to not email me on successful backups.Over the next days I removed these VMs. By doing so, Veeam completed to produce successful backups but today by accident I’ve noticed that it adds a single line message of the form “XXXX is no longer processed by this job. Make sure this change is intentional.”Two questions:These last jobs were still successful. Therefore I’ve received no e-mail for them (even if I did, I’d tend to overlook content for jobs that ran without hitches). Would it be better to have this type of a job end with a warning exit code, instead of a success one? How can I avoid having this message in the next backups? Should I edit the job and, if so, edit it how exactly?

Cloud Connect Storage

I have two data center sites, one in Indianapolis and the other in Olympia. We have Dell Data Domains at both sites as our backup storage. I am currently in the process of moving our cloud connect storage from an old HydraSTOR to the Dell Data Domain. With the hydraSTOR I was able to seed backup copy data from a portable NAS directly onto the cloud connect repository as it was presented as a CIFS share. With the Data Domain it is using something called ddboost and I’m not sure how to run a copy job to import that initial backup copy data onto the Dell Data Domain. Veeam M365 repository

Dear All,I wanted to host Veeam M365 repository on Dell Data Domain CIIFS Share (SMB2.0). I am completely aware that Veeam M365 doesn't support SMB2.0 and being a jet blue database, it has performance impact also. Does anybody has some workaround wherein I can backup onto primary Veeam M365 repository and then it should move the data to either CIIFS or NFS? NOTE: Don’t recommend Veeam best practices. Need to change datastore of a replica VM: best way?

I set up a Replication Job from the Main to the DR site for a VM running in vSphere and everything is fine.Now I have to move the replica VM to another datastore located at the same DR site.I could perform a storage vMotion on the replica VM, but I have some doubt: - would a storage vMotion on the replica VM harm the Veeam Replication Job? - should I need to modify the replication job in order to point it to the new datastore? - would I need to delete the replica job, perform the storage vMotion, and then re-create the replica job, seeding it with the existing replica VM (would like to avoid that...)?How to do that in the most secure / efficient way? Thank you

Veeam One 11 pdf scheduled report - landscape orientation?

I recently upgraded my Veeam One to version 11 (and yes looking at v12 soon) and the scheduled PDF reports use to come in landscape but are now showing in portrait mode. Basically I want the report data to not be split across 2 different pages. I vaguely remember I had to change something in V10, but can’t remember if it was a browser setting, registry setting, or something else.I do not currently have the SQL reporting services installed, but can do so. And how can this setting stick to version 12?

Weird issue with Exchange restores.

I have found a weird issue that is pretty specific. My co-worker opened a ticket with Veeam, but eventually closed it with no solution. We found a work around so it’s not really a problem. Here is the issue. We have a VMware Horizon Agent installed on our PC’s. This allows us the abilities to remote to them, using the horizon client, UAG, MFA, etc. Even using a BYOD. This all works great. HOWEVER, we noticed an issue that exchange restores have been bluescreening our computers lately. Multiple PC’s, different types, different accounts and so on. After a LOT of troubleshooting, we found out it only happened when the Horizon Agent was installed. We took it further, to only when the Horizon Agent is installed, and USB redirection is enabled. We disabled that feature which is our work around as we didn't need it. I was wondering if anyone uses Horizon, has an agent on their workstation, have USB redirection enabled, and recover mailbox items from exchange. It’s quite specific, but make s

Manually remove Veeam components from HV host

Further to my earlier question about backing up between networks, I tried to start removing the Veeam components that are installed on the Hyper-V hosts. One of the hosts is being a real pig and will not remove with error ‘Connecting to installer service Error: The RPC server is unavailable.’ On checking, the Veeam Installer Service is not running and will not start with an errors 7009 and 7000. Trying to delete the service as per KB2263: Failed to start service ‘VeeamDeploySvc’ - The system cannot find the file specified. does not work either! Any suggestions on how to manually remove Veeam components from this host? Slight curveball is that it is Windows Server Core 2019.Thanks!

workingDir parameter will be removed when VM restore, that specify the root directory of the datastore

Even though the datastore exists and can be referenced at destination ESXi host, the workingDir parameter was removed during restore with the following message.2022/12/02 11:48:46 Removing workingDir parameter because it points to a non-existent datastore /vmfs/volumes/63652fbd-aed4fef5-8da8-48210b3d7365After checking with support(Case # 05738353), we were told that the Veeam specification is that if the root directory of the datastore is specified, it is removed even if it exists.Please note that there may be few cases where the root directory is specified.

Feature request: getting rid of admin credentials for application-aware processing?

This was also asked at the AMA session during the Veeam 100 summit: I’d like to have application aware processing on Windows boxes by pre-installing some special Veeam software, but without having to specify an administrator-level account during job configuration.@HannesKback then replied that on V11 AAP did that trick just fine, but further testing showed that it was not possible. At least not without providing an account with administrative access corresponding to the VM.@Mildur at the time provided me with an alternative: instead of backing up via the ESXi API, install a standalone agent on the VM boxes, that would allow backing up without having to configure an admin account to the box. Have not tested it yet, should work just fine though!In any case, it’s day one of the VMCE course (thanks Veeam :) ) and during discussion of the AAP-related options AlexH was pondering about exactly the same issue.In any case, I’d like to re-iterate my request to Veeam for providing a way to have a
