Hi guys,

what is the best option/tool/software to migrate, minimizing downtime, VMs from an esxi host with Intel CPU to an esxi with AMD CPU?

I can think of:

  • Veeam CDP policy
  • Veeam quick migration
  • VMWare cold migration
  • VMware converter

Can you think of any other methods?

Hello @marco_s

quote @Andanet

I used Classic Replica, but even using CDP you can minimize downtime.

Migration to a different processor (1011788) (vmware.com)

Hi

I used a classic Veeam Replica to move from different hosts, but they haven’t different CPU, where downtime it due to a last replica before failover.

I am thinking if you want to minimize downtime then the two VMware options will not be the option as they will take some time.  Using the Replica feature in Veeam as mentioned by others seems to be the way to go or CDP.

Yeah, it would be probably be a cold migration for me unless downtime needed to be minimized in which case it’s going to be a replica.
